WHITE NOISE

ANALYSIS

(Opening 3 Minutes)

SOUNDTRACK

Use of non-diegetic sounds such as whispers and screams.

The backing track is very eerie which sets the atmosphere of the film.

The diegetic noises include the sound from the radio. Then there is a sudden tap turning on which gives a false sense of security for the audience.

CAMERAWORK

There is a mid shot of the main character, but it is off centre with a dark never ending space behind them. This is the first sign of the enigma code as it raises questions.

This shows the unknown and creates further false sense of security.

EDITING

Quick cuts between the opening shots Then it becomes slow paced when the

fuzzy television is shown.

MIS-EN-SCENE At the beginning it is set in a suburban

area with what seems to be a very happy welcoming atmosphere. This is a major false sense of security, which is a key convention amongst thriller films.

There is also dark lighting with occasional flashes of light, which comes across as very mysterious.
