Dear Whiteoaks Families,
This week is Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week. I am pleased to announce
that this year we have partnered with the Toronto Argonauts' "Huddle Up" Bullying
Prevention Program. Mme Bird has been working with our student leaders; and they
are in the process of spreading the Huddle Up message this week. Our 2015-2016
Leadership Crew and Oakie and the Acorns have worked together to come up
with a presentation about bullying. They are working to create a school-wide
pledge with the message: Be a Friend - Stand Up, Support and Defend! We will also
incorporate messages from the Peel board’s #ChooseAction campaign and our
Whiteoaks TEAM philosophy!
School Council is a very important parent advisory group at our school. Our
School Council elections are scheduled to occur on Thursday, December 3 and Fri-
day, December 4 at Whiteoaks. We are seeking new members. Make your voice
count and please get involved.
You will receive information about the School Council election via email. If you
are interested in filling a position on Council, I would ask that you complete the
School Council Nomination form attached to the email, and return it to the school
no later than November 25th. Hardcopies of this information will also be sent out to
our families.
Just a reminder that if your child will start grade 1 in September 2016, one of the
important choices you will make is whether you want to apply for the French Immer-
sion program. To find out if French Immersion is right for your child, plan to attend
our parent information meeting at 7 p.m. tomorrow evening, Thursday, Nov. 19. The
meeting will take place in the gym.
I would like to remind you again that our caring community of volunteers will be
proceeding with the annual Giving Tree initiative this year. This is a program that
seeks to anonymously help families in need.
I am including again two information pieces about student safety from last
week’s WWW to stress their importance and the need that they be adhered to by
all members of our school community. Please see the notes below regarding visitor
sign-in and safe use of the crosswalk.
Just a reminder that as in all Ontario schools, it is a requirement that all visitors
sign in at the office when they arrive at the school. Parents, guardians and care giv-
ers are not to proceed to their child’s classroom nor enter the school hallway with-
out signing in and receiving a visitor’s badge. Thank-you for your cooperation re-
garding this safety procedure.
In the interest of student safety, we ask that all pedestrians entering school prop-
erty at the beginning of the school day use the sidewalk. There are many vehicles
entering and exiting the school grounds at the beginning and end of the day.
When individuals cross through the vehicle and bus lanes, they put themselves at
risk. Modelling safe behaviour by using the sidewalk is critical to teach our students

Celebrating Faith and Culture
At Whiteoaks, we continue to work to be an inclusive school. To honour the fact that at Whiteoaks our student
body represents many cultures and faiths, we celebrate the faith and cultures at Whiteoaks regularly as they
occur, by reading messages about cultural celebrations over the announcements. In addition, we insert a
chart in each week’s newsletter indicating Days of Celebration, their dates and the Faiths and Cultures that
observe them. We have included the chart of celebrations for the upcoming weeks in this newsletter.

not walk across the driveway to gain access to school property. Thank-you for keeping our stu-
