We are currently finding many ways to involve our students in the learning
process at Willunga Primary. Our fabulous STEPS dispositions (artfully illustrated
after consultation with all classes), are a focus each fortnight with students
recognised at assembly and with a certificate for demonstrating this disposition.
We are also working to make sure that the dispositions and effective practices
are making an impact in each classroom. We do this through student led
walkthroughs. Once a term students from years 3 to 7 visit all classes to look for
methods being used to involve students in the learning. Our second walk
through showed some improvements from first term, especially around students
understanding how to be successful within a lesson and students understanding
why they are learning the concept.
Each week Leaders meet with a group of students from Reception to year 7.
These students bring work samples and discuss what they have been learning,
why they think they were learning it and how they know when they are
successful. This information is displayed in the staff room as a discussion point.
Some great student feedback includes:
I am challenging myself with harder work
I knew I was doing better because I was improving
I enjoyed the investigations in science as they were fun and interesting
The learning would be helpful in the shops if I am buying multiples
The teacher wanted it to be a bit more challenging for me
We are building stamina in our classroom
Some people couldn’t do it, but they just couldn’t do it YET
When I ring parents during my weekly client opinion survey, it is great to hear
that some of this language is also being used at home.

When I was in primary school I remember singing the
song ‘I Can Sing a Rainbow’. My friend and I thought
it was odd and didn’t make sense as it has the words
in it “listen with your eyes”. I realise now that it does
make sense to ‘listen with your eyes’. Whatever you
find yourself busy doing, cooking tea, on the
computer, cleaning, if your children talk to you, try to
remember to stop and ‘listen
with your eyes’ as well as your
ears. It definitely makes your
children feel you are really
listening to them.
OSHC News
Reminder, there is a student Free Day on Tuesday 13th June. OSHC is open on this day so if you require care, please let us know. You can call or leave a message on 0438761656 or come in and write your child’s name on the list. Currently on our program, we are looking at “Flags around the World”. We have researched a variety of flags, focusing on their colours and patterns. Discussions have been formed with the children, sharing ideas and
suggestions in designing their own flags. The children have used their imaginations and creative skills in making their own, which are on display in the OSHC room. Also the OSHC “Floor book” is now on display in the school’s front office. If you have a moment, please take a look and leave a comment. Belinda Filkin, - OSHC Director

Our school has joined with the Department of
Transport Planning and Infrastructure in the program
to investigate and promote safe active transport to
school. Over the next few weeks we will be
conducting student, parent and staff surveys about
current transport patterns as well as additional
facilities that may be needed to improve active
transport (walking, scootering, cycling etc.) in our
community. From the survey results we will work
with officers from DTPI and the local council to
investigate issues and opportunities for our wider
school community. If you have any questions or
ideas, please speak to our staff reps –
Pete Murphy or Greg Doig
VOLUNTEERING AT WILLUNGA PRMARY We value volunteers at Willunga Primary. All volunteers
who provide ongoing assistance with education and
care sites and settings must be provided with the
Responding to Abuse and Neglect – Education and Care
(RAN-EC) induction session for volunteers. The RAN-EC
induction outlines volunteers' child protection
responsibilities and provides guidelines on protective
practices.
This session can be undertaken online at
https://rantrainingvolunteers.e3learning.com.au/
After you have completed the training, please make a
time to see a Leader for a brief Induction. A copy of
your certificate will need to be provided to the site.
Volunteers attending overnight camps will or
volunteering in a way NOT directly related to their child
will also require a criminal history screening. This can
be arranged through Michelle Collins in the finance
office.

Knockout Netball
On Friday 12th May, we played against Tatachilla
College in the knockout netball. We played at
Tatachilla on their indoor courts which is a bit
confusing with so many different lines. It was a tough
game, we were winning in the first few minutes of the
first quarter as we were using the ball well.
The biggest difference was the passing, catching and
interception skills.
In the end Tatchilla won 23 to 7.
All the girls tried hard, gave it their best shot and had
fun.
Thanks to Mel for coaching us.

Boys Knockout Football
On Tuesday 23rd May we played against Investigator
College at the Willunga Oval .We had done some
training sessions with Mr Crate and were ready to go.
The game was rather intense from the start with lots
of pressure and everyone going at the ball. It was a
bit congested and we dominated the play with around
70% possession in the first quarter. We were up at
quarter time.
In the second quarter the match evened out and the
scores were still close.
After half time we got slower and Investigator’s
forwards started to lift. We were lucky that they
missed some easy shots in front of goal.
Mr Crate asked us to lift for the last quarter and give it
everything we had but it wasn’t enough. We had
plenty of the ball in the last quarter but their defence
lifted as well.
The final score was Investigator 6 goals 8 behinds to
Willunga 3 goals 4 behinds.
Thanks to Mr Crate for coaching, parents for
supporting and the Willunga Football Club for the
guernseys, change rooms and post pads. We all
enjoyed ourselves.

LOST PROPERTY There is currently a large amount of lost property
located in the coloured wheelie bins near the Finance
Office window.
Please ensure that all items of clothing, lunch
containers, water bottles etc. are clearly labelled to
help lost items being returned.
Please have a look next time you pass by.
At Willunga Primary School we have been fortunate
to receive food supplies from
The donations mean we have been able to supply
breakfast, lunches and fruit for some of our
students. Unfortunately Kickstart for Kids are no
longer able to deliver supplies to the school as
often.
We are looking for donations of fruit from members
of our community, so we can provide students with
fruit (brain food) at all times. Now is the time when
citrus fruits are in season, so if you have any to
spare, please drop them off to the front office to
help keep our fruit basket full.
