From the Marylebone Cricket Club President, Phillip Hodson

To all the players and supporters at Windsor Cricket Club,

It gives me great pleasure to write to you on behalf of M.C.C. to convey the Club’s congratulationsand best wishes on the occasion of your centenary celebration.

To reach the magic three figures is a fantastic achievement, and testament to all the hard work thathas gone into developing the club over the past hundred years. In particular, the merging of twogreat rival cricket clubs, Windsor Victoria and Windsor & Eton, in 1995, means that Windsor C.C.now represents a bright and vibrant club with a rich and diverse history.

As the world’s most active cricket-playing club, M.C.C.’s Out-Matches form a significant part of theClub’s activities, and I am certain that the eleven M.C.C. cricketers selected for the Centenary matchagainst Windsor C.C. on Monday 27th August, are looking forward to playing at one of the mostscenic cricket grounds in the country.

The Out-Match fixtures represent so much of what I and so many others love about the game: thefriendly competition, the camaraderie forged between M.C.C. players who often have never meteach other before, and the generosity offered by the host club. Everyone wants to play in a good, tight game and one where the principles that underpin the Spirit of Cricket – playing a hard, fair andenjoyable game – are paramount.

Thank you for what I am sure will be a wonderful game of cricket, and on behalf of M.C.C. I wishWindsor C.C. all the best for another successful hundred years.

Yours sincerely,

R.P. HodsonPresident, M.C.C.

Chairman Vice-Chairman Secretary Treasurer James Jordan Andy Chorley Alex Hill Chris Smith

It is my privilege and pleasure as President of Windsor Cricket Club to welcome the MCC, and all the spectators, to our Club and to our splendid Home Park cricket ground with its unique backcloth of Windsor Castle.

Windsor Cricket Club was born in 1995 out of the amalgamation of Windsor Victoria and Windsor and Eton Cricket Clubs. This year we are celebrating 100 years since one of our parents Windsor Victoria was formed and started playing on the Home Park. This is also the first time that the MCC has played here on our ground and so this Centenary Match is indeed an historic Event. The accompanying photograph shows the motley members of Alexandra Cricket Club who played here even before then in 1880.

So in addition to this being a cricketing and social occasion, we have decided to expand it into a worthy charity activity too and are raising funds for the local Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice, for Rotary Charities and for our own Windsor Cricket Club Colts. This Event has taken months to prepare and so we are very grateful that Windsor and Eton Rotary Club and Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice have combined with us and have worked hard to make today enjoyable for everyone who is playing or is watching. We are particularly indebted to our Headline Sponsor “The Shanly Foundation” for their generous donation that has guaranteed our financial success.

Windsor Cricket Club is the Town’s Club and it is one of the largest in Berkshire We regularly run 5 senior sides each week in the summer and also Colts Teams from under 17s down to under 9s. All my Committee and Captains are of course willing volunteers. We recognise how important it is to provide healthy, team and personal character building sport and recreation for all our younger generations. The schools do not have sufficient time to coach cricket, so our Club provides cricket training both as a sport and education to all age levels. During the last six years we have raised over £40,000 to build the best outside cricket nets in the County and this year we have engaged a profession Level 1 Coach and have now opened our Windsor Cricket Club Academy to provide team and individual cricket training.

We welcome you and hope you all find your visit to our Cricket Club today is memorable and that you enjoy joining with us in our Centenary Celebrations.

Our last event in association with Windsor Cricket Club was the Lord’s Taverners President’s match back in 2007 celebrating our 75th year. It was a major success enjoyed by participants and spectators alike resulting in many thousands of pounds being raised for local charities. I am naturally delighted that The Rotary Club of Windsor & Eton has again decided to link up with WCC for their Centenary Match against the MCC. I would like to thank all involved and our very generous Main sponsor The Shanly Foundation.

The Mercure Castle Hotel Windsor and The MacDonald Windsor Hotel have supplied super raffle prizes and we very much appreciate their continued support for Rotary Projects in Windsor & Eton.

I wish all attending a most enjoyable day at what promises to be a most memorable occasion.

Adrian Stabbins – President The Rotary Club of Windsor & Eton.

The Rotary Club of Windsor & Eton

The first Rotary Club was founded by Chicago lawyer Paul Harris in 1905. Rotary’s aim is to gather together men and women of different vocations and interests to serve the community locally, regionally and internationally. There are now 1.2 million members in nearly 33,000 international clubs in over 200 countries, all striving towards these goals.

The Rotary Club of Windsor & Eton was founded in 1931. Through its meetings, club members form close friendships and enjoy a full social programme. Members are also free to visit any club in the world and the Windsor and Eton branch has active contact clubs in the Netherlands and Germany with regular exchange visits. Apart from supporting a wide range of deserving local causes, from youth initiatives to caring for the aged, the club continues to have led responses to international disasters. Reaching out to every child and family who needs us, offeringsupport and care from people who understand...

Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service congratulates Windsor Cricket Club as it celebrates its special centenary year and thanks all the members very much for their support. Our charity is working to build a local children’s hospice, which will support children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions throughout Berkshire and the bordering areas of surrounding counties. New research has shown there are over 330 families who need this vital service. Alexander Devine has funded two nurses who are now supporting these children and their families in their own homes, and an anonymous benefactor has donated 6 acres of land in the Maidenhead area on which our charity will be able to build this much-needed Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice.
