WINTER 2015 ammograms Annually A Must (M.A.A.M.), a committee of the Centra Foundation, is a local volunteer group whose mission is to improve the health of women in central Virginia by raising awareness of the importance of screening mammograms and to help fund free mammograms for women who cannot afford them. The M.A.A.M. Committee also holds a luncheon each year to raise funds to support these free screening mammograms. This year’s luncheon, held October 10 at Lynchburg College, featured Dr. Leana Wen, director of Patient-Centered Care Research in the Department of Emergency Medicine at The George Washington University. This group, made up of donors who give $1,000 or more to the Centra Foundation annually, received an update on Centra Foundation projects and programs from Kathryn M. Pumphrey, Ed.D., executive vice president. EW Tibbs, CEO of Centra, presented an overview of current and future Centra projects as well as a review of Centra accomplishments this year. All of our donors enable us to enhance the health of our community by supporting patients and programs in Centra's hospitals and facilities throughout our service areas. D

(M.A.A.M.), a committee of the Centra

Foundation, is a local volunteer group

whose mission is to improve the health of women in

central Virginia by raising awareness of the importance

of screening mammograms and to help fund free

mammograms for women who cannot afford them.

The M.A.A.M. Committee also holds a luncheon each

year to raise funds to support these free screening

mammograms. This year’s luncheon, held October 10 at

Centra Medical Group MobileMed began making

weekly rounds September 8 to West Lynchburg

Baptist Church, Parkview Mission and James Crossing

Apartments. These sites, as well as Lynchburg High

Apartments, which is visited on a biweekly basis, are

provided with a variety of services including blood

pressure checks, blood sugar checks for diabetics,

navigation to appropriate services, education,

medication assistance and assistance with paperwork

to access services by nurses and support staff.

A family nurse practitioner, who joined Centra

Medical Group MobileMed at the beginning of

November, provides additional services, including

treatment of chronic disease, laboratory services,

prescription management, routine care, education

and medical referrals.

Centra Medical Group MobileMed currently assists

five to eight patients a day, many of whom need

assistance in navigating the healthcare network in

Lynchburg and general education about their health.
