WELCOME TO THE WINTER NEWSLETTER
We are delighted to tell you all that the concept of timebanking is moving up the political
agenda, with the first All Party Parliamentary Group being held earlier this month with Edgar
Cahn being invited from the USA to lead the discussion with MP's on Pro Bono and Public
Legal Education and time banks.
There was much enthusiasm and interest about the current activities from TBUK member
time banks and we hope to harness this interest by trying to encourage resources and funding
to help sustain, develop and implement UK time banks. We will keep you all updated as the
conversations and meetings progress.
Sarah Bird has been invited to talk at the Palace of Westminster for the House of Lords
Meeting - The Crisis of Social Care, providing case studies showcasing how timebanking
works. This will be on Tuesday 12th December.
Sarah would like to take case studies to this meeting to prove the value of timebanking.
If you would like to contribute one or two with your time bank details, please email
them to us urgently ([email protected]). Sarah will be highlighting the need for
time banks to be supported/funded to grow and sustain this movement across the UK.

Would you like to work with Timebanking UK?
We would love to have more Associates to work with us on an ad-hoc basis. We pay by the
day and particularly are looking for people who would like to train brokers and members to
use our brand new timebanking software (TOL2) and those who are direct experience in
setting up and running a time bank (in particular where the time bank is based at, or
embedded in another organisation.)
Please contact [email protected] for further information.

Get Involved in our Evaluation of the Use of the
Safe Return Home from Hospital Toolkit
We have recently produced a draft Safe Return Home from Hospital Toolkit and are keen for you to help us
test how it works in timebanks. The Toolkit takes you through how to introduce and run a member led support
for discharge from hospital. It also provides guidance for timebanks who want to work with their local hospital,
and support discharge from hospital, on a more regular basis.
The testing of the use of the Toolkit will be done via the identification of a group of timebanks or timebank
networks who wish to develop, implement and run a Safe Return Home from Hospital local project.
As part of the testing of the Toolkit, we will be providing training, in the form of three facilitated workshops.
The workshops will be delivered over several months to enable you, and your timebank members, to explore
strategies for introducing and/or developing local schemes and projects. Attendance will be required at all
three workshops. As a result of your attendance you will be supported to:
• Develop your knowledge and skills in relation to providing a local Safe Return Home from Hospital
Scheme or project.
• Use the Toolkit.
In addition to the workshops, those timebanks who have signed up to the project, will have the opportunity
to access some additional support via peer Skype e-meetings.
Our funding allows only a limited number of time banks to take part but if you are interested then please get
in touch with Lynn at [email protected]
TBUK in partnership with CADW
CADW offered our time bank members the opportunity to visit castles and historic sites across Wales. A
voucher can be exchanged for 7-time credits. All Timebanking UK ask is that we receive information about
what the member has done to earn their credits, a short description of their trip (a photo or 2 would be lovely
too!) To request vouchers please contact:
Fair Shares trip to Raglan Castle
17 of us went to Raglan Castle and it was the first time for all of us. None of us knew what to expect but every
single one of us was really impressed with the Castle and the visit. The site itself was not only well preserved
but it was very surprising just how accessible all the different areas were. (In terms of being able to explore)
I think all of us came away very impressed and talked about how we’d all like to visit again with family and
friends.
Reyaz,
Fair Shares, Gloucester.
New Timebanking UK Software
Time Online 2 Coming soon.....
After months of consultation and development we are currently trialling our new software in which we aim to
include the best bits of all the different platforms that we have used over recent years to enable brokers and
members to exchange more easily.
The new software is being developed by a locally based software company who have close links with
Timebanking UK, and are in constant communication through this development phase. We have a focus group
made up of time bank brokers, local area members and partners. The new software will enable members to
create their own exchanges, with the monitoring and reporting features being available for use by
time bank brokers.
Time Online 2 will be available to all Timebanking UK members in the New Year.
Please see below for the new look - we hope you like it!
Fair Shares Gloucestershire are looking for an individual or time bank, with experience of evaluating
projects, to undertake a final evaluation of our pilot ‘Through the Gate’ time banking project working with
offenders in the community. The evaluation will be primarily desk based and needs to take place by the end
of February 2018. This piece of work will follow on from an interim report that has recently been completed.
This small, 1-year pilot project has been funded to look at the opportunities for Fair Shares to develop work
with offenders in the community as an off-shoot of our larger prison time banking project. Contact Lucia on
01452 415900 for an informal discussion / further information.
DBS Updates
Please do check the guidelines around the eligibility for a DBS disclosure and in particular, checking against
barred lists.(Questions X64 and X65) As far as timebanking is concerned there are now very few positions in
which a broker can request an enhanced disclosure and check barred lists.
Use the government eligibility tool to find out if you can check someone’s criminal record

Please note that the Disclosure and Barring Service has introduced new ID checking guidelines as of the 24th
October. Please see the link below for further information.

SAD GOODBYES.....
Kaaren Morris has been involved with Timebanking UK for many years, from running her own time bank in
London, then being employed by Broadway to run a time bank for homeless people. She came to Stroud
employed by Timebanking UK to develop the regional networks across the UK in 2014 and travelled far and
wide arranging regional meetings and events. In the last year Kaaren has been back in London supporting the
London Time Bank Network, for which she will be finishing her role at the end of November. We would like
to thank her for all of her hard work and wish her the very best for the future.
Richard Gardiner
Richard passed away on 2nd August following a battle with cancer. Timebanking UK staff had a long and
valuable relationship with Richard. In 2013 he was delighted to be accepted onto the Timebanking UK board
of trustees, after being involved with timebanking from the start he certainly brought a lot of experience to
the table - he was the real grassroots of the timebanking movement in the UK.
RIP Richard X
Angela Butcher
Angela worked for Timebanking UK in Surrey and was a fantastic colleague, totally dedicated to timebanking
and always had a smile for everyone. This has come as a huge shock to us all, but she will be remembered for
a very long time as being a true ambassador and a lovely human being.
RIP Angela X
Congratulations!
