IntroductionIntroductionThere is no general word for ‘time’ in the

Old Testament nor are there specific words for the categories of ‘Past,’ ‘Present,’ or ‘Future.’ The Hebrew word most commonly translated as ‘time’ is ayt, which really refers to the instant or duration of time during which something occurs (1Samuel 9:16; Ecclesiastes 3:1-8; Ezra 10:13; 2 Chronicles 24:11).

Con,tCon,tAnother word, ‘olam’ refers to immeasurable

time, whether past; Ecclesiastes 1:10 or future Micah 4:7. While it does not mean ‘Eternal’ in the sense of without end, it does point to a length of time beyond human comprehension.

Another common word, mo`ed, means ‘fixed time,’ that is a time designated for a specific occurrence like a festival Leviticus. 23:2, 4.

Con’t Con’t There are many inequities in the world, but one thing we all have in

common is the same amount of time each day. God has allotted 24 hours to each one of us each day. When one considers that there are 168 hours in a week where in the world with approximately:

56 hours for sleep 30 hours for class attendance 21 hours for nourishment 16 hours for worship & relaxationAnd there are still 45 hours left over to be use wisely for study purpose

It is not uncommon to hear comments like: There just isn’t enough time in a day to do everything I need to

do. I just don’t know where the time goes. I’ll try to find time, but I’m hard pressed for time at the present.

Page 5: Wise use of time

Con’tCon’tWe speak of the peak or rush hour of the day,

or we tell family members to move on because we don’t have all day. We regularly use words like urgent, priority, or pressing.

It is common to hear comments like:There just isn’t enough time in a day to do

everything I need to do.I just don’t know where the time goes.I’ll try to find time, but I’m hard pressed for

time at the present.

Characteristics of TimeCharacteristics of TimeMost of us Value Time as a Resource.

Moreover, it is a unique resource: It cannot be accumulated like Money or

stockpiled like Raw Materials. We are forced to spend it, whether we choose

to or not, it is at a fixed rate of 60 seconds every minute.

It cannot be turned on and off like a machine or replaced like a man.

It is irretrievable

How do you use your time? How do you use your time? This is because in everyone’s life, there is a

special time for those purposes which you plan and for those which are planned for you. For instance:

Time to studyTime to workTime to worshipTime to playTime to be happyTime to ….

Con’tCon’tIts important to note that; Christians and

people raised in a Christian setting tend to take their work more seriously than others.

They also place a high value on family obligations.

And they are often in the forefront of community and charitable associations.

Page 9: Wise use of time

Con’tCon’tHowever, today the problem we face in our society

is not the amount of time a sovereign God has allotted to us, but our view of time and life itself, and how we use the time we have.

God is not limited by time as we are. He is the sovereign of time. The Bible says; “But do not forget this one thing, dear friends; With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand slowness. He is patient with you, not waiting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance,” 2 Peter 3:8-10

He sees the past, present, and the future as one.
