WOMEN'S DIVISION NEWSLETTER Late Summer 2020 Nice to see you Winnie. MESSAGE FROM BETTY Our summer is rapidly ending with a few cooler temperatures noted. I am sure you do not want to hear this reality, however, haven’t we had a great season! Ken-Wo‘s course continues to be green, and in great shape ….thanks to the hard work of the Ken Wo staff. Over the past few years, we held a luncheon for Ken-Wo staff to express our appreciation. Unfortunately, we could not host this year due to covid-19. I have sent a letter to Rene, Rick, and crew on our behalf relaying our gratitude for a job well done. Our Women’s championship was held in August and went very well with our club champion Heather McLean winning the top honors. Congratulations to all who entered this event. Over the month of September, we encourage you to complete your stats for the Ringer board and Birdie tree, so that this information is available for our Annual Closing. Plans are under way for our Annual closing on Thursday October 1, 2020. Please save the date! We will have golf, dinner and awards .So stay tuned for more details. I have had the privilege of working with a great executive who strive to provide the organization for Women’s day and the division. Thank-you for doing your roles during a vastly different time. Enjoy the rest of the season! Hope to see you on the course and at the Annual meeting! WOMEN'S DIVISION NEWSLETTER Late Summer 2020

Nice to see you Winnie.

MESSAGE FROM BETTY Our summer is rapidly ending with a few cooler temperatures noted. I am sure you do not want to hear this

reality, however, haven’t we had a great season!

Ken-Wo‘s course continues to be green, and in great shape ….thanks to the hard work of the Ken Wo staff.

Over the past few years, we held a luncheon for Ken-Wo staff to express our appreciation. Unfortunately, we

could not host this year due to covid-19. I have sent a letter to Rene, Rick, and crew on our behalf relaying our

gratitude for a job well done.

Our Women’s championship was held in August and went very well with our club champion Heather McLean

winning the top honors. Congratulations to all who entered this event.

Over the month of September, we encourage you to complete your stats for the Ringer board and Birdie tree,

so that this information is available for our Annual Closing.

Plans are under way for our Annual closing on Thursday October 1, 2020. Please save the date! We will have

golf, dinner and awards .So stay tuned for more details.

I have had the privilege of working with a great executive who strive to provide the organization for Women’s

day and the division. Thank-you for doing your roles during a vastly different time.

Enjoy the rest of the season! Hope to see you on the course and at the Annual meeting!

Cheers

Betty

THE PRIZE AT THE END FOR EVERYONE - FUN, FOOD and LAUGHTER

MATCH COMMITTEE REPORT What a busy time we have had. Pin rounds, championship, trophy rounds and ....... we continue to have

excellent participation each week and glorious weather. To date I think we have only had one rain out! We

have managed to sort out the sign up glitches and have happily gone the “old fashioned” route of signing up

on paper. I trust everyone knows where this is.

The Bronze Team- Coleen Youden, Debbie Gauthier, Florence Douglas, Rose Leslie and Michelle Millet got to

play on the beautiful Chester course. The competition was fierce with Avon Valley taking the prize with a score

of -14. Our ladies finished respectively in the middle of the field with a -4. Well done!

Edna Harquail has been hot, winning the casual rounds low net 3 times. Maybe she tired herself out as she

then went on to win a prize for most bunkers hit! And if that wasn't enough she won the Winnie Horton

Trophy- 9 hole low net-with a score of 30! Way to go Edna! Betty Mattson won the Ollie Drysdale Trophy- 18

hole low net on front- with a score of 31! Great golf Betty!

Page 4: WOMEN'S DIVISIONSept. 25 (Friday) Last day to post Ringer Board, Cot Com, Birdie Tree, Hole-in-one, Break Pins Oct. 1 1:00 Women Division Closing, 9 hole shotgun scramble, meeting,

Debbie Sutherland and Linda O'Brien won the Woodworth Robinson 2 ball. Awesome job!

Club Championship-after a call for more participants for our 9 hole division some of our new members

stepped up so we could hold the competition. The weather was perfect and we had 2 great days of golf, food

and camaraderie! Congratulations to all participants and winners. (see championship report)

We managed to reschedule the Joan Fox Stableford and saw Debbie Gauthier put together a strong game and

score 42 points! Well done Debbie!

On that day we also saw Paige Hynes win the 9 hole longest drive and Margaret McLean win the 18 hole

longest drive! The Pitch and Putt prize went to Debbie Sutherland. Another great finish to a glorious day of

golf!

Didn't I say we have been busy!

A detailed report of all the winners on Thursday follows.

Keep swinging, there is lots of golf left.

Your match committee,

Patti, Linda, Lesley

18-HOLE MATCH PLAY UP-DATE Singles and Partners Match Play had (20) twenty 18-Hole players sign-up to compete this season. We are hoping to have the 9-Hole players participate next year - we realize the Covid-19 pandemic may have been a factor in participation numbers for 2020. The winner of the Singles Match Play has been determined. The Partners Match Play has progressed to the semi-final matches and it is anticipated the Partners Match winner will be known within the next couple of weeks. Exciting, nerve wracking, joyful, disappointing, friendly, supporting, and win or lose - the feeling that it was indeed fun. These are some of the words to describe a match play round - there are others that are not fit to print. I just want to convey that it is indeed an exciting format - a high handicapper has as good a chance of winning as a low handicapper - the handicap system provides a level playing field for all. Attention: Match Play singles players for 2021 - Brenda Upton has thrown down the gauntlet for next year - she is out to take it all. Also, in my partners match with Joan Merlin we played Jill Morse and Cathy Palmer - wow, those girls can hit the ball and will be a force to reckon with next year. I am hopeful more players will sign up in 2021 - the more teams, the more challenges, the more fun, and 9-Hole players I hope you will have sufficient players to vie for the 9-Hole trophies. Thank you to everyone who participated and see you at our Closing. Linda

There was a welcomed distraction this year on holes 6 and 7 trying to spot mama and her baby. Scores might have suffered a bit but the sightings were well worth it.

Congratulations Jane Hefler for your hole-in-one in Florida this past spring. Well done!!!!!!
