We extend a very warm welcome to the new families who have joined the Woodville Community. As you will be aware, this year is the 100th anniversary of the ANZAC Landings at Gallipoli and as such, is a time for us to reflect on what, for Australia, was a pivotal moment in our history and saw the coming of age of Australia as a country. As part of this 100th Anniversary, there will be many events and activities planned for Wyndham but also around the nation and overseas as well. The senior school team has prepared a special ANZAC day ceremony for the whole school tomorrow - it will begin at 2.30pm in the FLATS. Our school is conducting a survey to find out what your child thinks of our school. The Attitudes to School survey is an annual survey for Years 5 to 12 students offered by the Department of Education and Training. It is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of students' perceptions and experience of school. Our school will use the survey results to plan programs and activities to improve your child's experience at school. Students in Year 5 and 6 will participate in this year’s survey. Please speak to your child’s teacher if you would like more information regarding the survey. Finally, a reminder that staff will be undertaking professional learning on Monday 27 th April. This is a School Council approved Curriculum Day and as such students do not attend school on this day. All staff will participate in writing workshops; plan engaging writing opportunities for our students, and work in teams on our School Self Evaluation. P.E news….

The grade 5/6 students took part in a skills and question/answer session with players from the North Melbourne Football Club this week. North Melbourne players Keiran Harper, Mason Wood and Joel Tippett provided the students with some insight into their lifestyles as AFL players as well as their lives growing up. They also talked about living a healthy lifestyle and its importance to well being. Students then participated in some fun activities with the players including footy dodgeball, handballing and marking drills, and a goal kicking competition.

School Fete News! THANK YOU to the children and families for the many donations given in lieu of casual dress on

Tuesday.

We desperately seek volunteers for our many stalls on the day of the fete. If each family gives an

hour of their time on this day then this fete will be a roaring success! Volunteer sign-up sheets are

on the wall outside the administration office – it would be wonderful to see these filled.

Early Bird ride wristbands are still available at the office for $30. These can be purchased until

Wednesday 29th

April. The wristband gives you unlimited rides, a drink and a sausage on the day of

the fete. Please be aware these pre-purchased wristbands will be given to students on Friday 1st

May.

VOLUNTEERS WANTED FOR KITCHEN GARDEN PROGRAM

STEPHANIE ALEXANDER KITCHEN GARDEN NATIONAL PROGRAM

The success of this unique and exciting Program relies on the support of volunteers.

There is nothing more satisfying than sharing a delicious meal created with fresh

produce that you have grown from seed to harvest. Every week over 100 school

children share in this experience as part of the Kitchen Garden Program at Woodville

Primary School.

You don’t have to be a green thumb or a master chef, you just have to love growing

food, eating food and being with children. If you would like to volunteer in the

kitchen or garden, whether you have one hour to spare or a whole morning, we would

love to hear from you. A volunteer Working with Children Check is required. Please

logon to www.justice.vic.gov.au/workingwithchildren to complete this check.

The Garden Program runs Fridays Term 1

Starting Term 2

The Garden Program will run on alternating Fridays

with the Kitchen program

MALMSBURY DOXA CAMP 15th – 17th April 2015

Here’s what a few of the campers had to say about their recent camp to Malmsbury…

It was fun running in a circle on the trampoline. Eh Su Klay

The climbing wall was scary but I had a go. Connor I enjoyed the river ecology. Jerome found a yabbie on the river walk. Jako It was my first time at camp and I was so excited. It was really fun! Briege Some activities were really challenging but the Doxa staff helped us. Cody

In archery, at first I failed but on my second go I hit the red. Fono I liked camp so much I want to go again. Jarrod

The beds at camp were really comfy so my cabin slept all night. Priya

5/6 Team

The year six students were extremely excited during the first week of term when their brand new year six jumpers arrived. The year six students are now wearing their ‘Class of 2015’ jumpers with pride. Year 5 students are now looking forward to the time they will have their own.
