More information and pictures about the day can be found on page four of this newsletter. As stated in last fortnight’s newsletter, student reports and learning portfolio will be sent home to families next Thursday 29 th June. Parent/Teacher interviews will take place early next term. Student Support Group meetings for some students are taking place this week or early next term. School Council met on Monday evening. Members of the School Council approved a Curriculum Day on Monday 17th July. This is the first day of term three. Students will not be at school on this day. All students will resume classes for term three on TUESDAY 18 th JULY. School Council have also endorsed the creation of a Uniform sub- committee to review the current Uniform policy and dress code. If any parents would like to be a part of this group please see Jodi Binion or leave your name/number at the office. NAIDOC stands for National Aboriginal and Islanders Day Observance Committee. Next week we have invited Yamba Konrad Ross and Djarrin Blow to work with our staff and students to build awareness and appreciation of Aboriginal culture. The students will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities; these include face painting, art, dance dreamtime storytelling and boomerang throwing. We look forward to celebrating NAIDOC week together as a community. Woodville Primary School Average Attendance for the past fortnight = 91.90% (The state average is 96.3%) Let us see if we can improve on this for the next fortnight and have an attendance rate greater than the Victorian state average. EVERYDAY COUNTS Going to school every day is the single most important part of your child's education. Students learn new things at school every day - missing school puts them behind and disconnects them from their peers.
BARBEQUE WITH BINION Next Thursday, students with excellent attendance will have the opportunity to share a barbeque with Mrs Binion. Students can wear casual clothes on this day and will get a sausage and a can of soft drink/bottle of water.
3/4 Team News
Australian History This term students in years 3/4 have been learning about Australians in Australian History. They have researched historical events that made Australia the place it is today. Students worked individually or in small cooperative groups to create posters, which display the information they have researched and learnt. Here are some of the posters that the students have created.
After the success of this year’s ‘National Walk Safely to School’ day Woodville has introduced a ‘Walk Safely to Woodville’ day where we invite our school community to walk together to school each Friday. On this day, staff will meet students at 3 drop off areas and walk together.
This week, there will be staff members meeting students at Aqua Pulse, the Heaths Road skate park and at the Hoppers Crossing shops (near Paul’s Bakery) where they will walk together with students and families. Teachers will leave these three meeting points at 8:30am. We hope that our community will take part in this important health initiative.

Specialist Team News JAPANESE CULTURAL DAY Japanese Cultural Day for Grade 3 to 6 On Monday 19th of June, we held our annual Japanese Cultural day for grade three to six students. Students explored the Japanese culture through many different hands-on activities! This year, students made a carp streamer, a Japanese amulet, a climbing Ninja and had a go at drawing Bulbasour (Pokémon). We enjoyed Japanese Obento (lunch box)! During the last hour of the day were fortunate to have special guest performers visit our school – Taikoz (Japanese music ensemble). We watched how they play Japanese traditional musical instruments and enjoyed Japanese traditional music. Live music makes such a difference! Thank you for organising this fantastic incursion, Wood Sensei! Congratulations to the following students for being the recipients of the Great Cosplay Award!

Rosie the Bee Keeper
Last Thursday the Prep Team had a visit from Rosie, a local beekeeper. She taught us how bees communicate, why bees are important and how to be safe with bees.

On Thursday, the 8th of June, Rosie (a student’s mum) came to Woodville to talk to the 1/2
students about bees. Rosie spoke about what she does for the bees and what the bees do for
us. Rosie taught us about the different types of bees such as the Queen bees, the Worker
bees and the Drone bees. She taught us how she uses all the different types of equipment and
what she needs to wear so that she does not get stung.
At the end of the session, Rosie allowed the students to try on the bee clothing and the
students enjoyed wearing it. The students also had an opportunity to taste the honey that
Rosie collected from her bees.
The students loved listening and learning about the bees and tasting the honey.
