Acquaintance Evening Tuesday’s Acquaintance Evening was well attended; the first time families have been welcome back into buildings since COVID-19 restrictions were put in place early 2020. Site Improvement Goals This year we continue our Improvement Goals on: Goal 1 Oral Language: focusing on the vocabulary that children use and the opportunities they have to “Talk about their Learning”. Please encourage your child to talk about his/her learning. This will assist them to remember what they have learnt but also give practice to use the words needed to discuss their learning. Goal 2 Writing: focusing on improving children’s ability to write more complex sentences and organize their writing into paragraphs from Year 3. Children are encouraged to make Authorial choices to think like a writer Goal 3: Supports students to develop learning habits and capabilities that support; independence, student voice and the ability to manage their own learning. Road Safety Again I ask families to use the pedestrian crossings on Chapman Road and Ridley Grove when bringing your children to and from school. Whilst it may be slightly inconvenient and take a few extra minutes, developing your children habits of where and when it is safe to cross are critical. A reminder that a child was hit by a vehicle in 2020; and whilst the child has fully recovered, the impact on the family of the child, the driver and other children and families was significant. Please keep everyone safe by using the crossings and teaching your children to cross safely 2021 is shaping up to be an exciting year; a 10 th birthday party, Year 6/7 camp, excursions, swimming and a very big Year 6/7 graduation of nearly 150 children – all the celebrations that were put on hold in 2020. Class 808 is setting the classroom scene by getting to know each other, sharing hobbies,

likes, family interests and cultural celebrations. We have discussed why it is important to be safe and why we need rules for the classroom. Our students have included the school values, which are responsibility, respect and fairness together with the learning and safety rules.

GREEN LEARNING AREA

Our school students went to see a performance on our school site called BUDDIES where there were two main characters, Charlie and Lucy who were acting as students. Together they had to complete quests to collect friendship discs. The play was showing us how to form good relationships with their peers and develop the friendship elements. The friendship elements are displayed below.

All the classes (807,808 and 813) in the green building have contributed in making the rules for the common workspace. Tokens are issued to students who show positive behaviour and follow the school values. Every week the class who earns the highest tokens, look after the big Teddy Bear in their class. Mrs Cedar

The students of 807 have started the year off working very hard. They have been busy getting

to know each other and setting up their class for a successful and exciting year ahead.

THE BEST PART OF ME In 813 we discussed how everyone is unique and special. We decided on the best part

of ourselves. We brainstormed all the ways it is important and what it can help us do and enjoy in life. When everyone can see the best parts of each other, we can create a positive classroom environment. Check out some of our best parts!

The best part of me is my lungs because they help me breathe, talk and sing. Also, if I didn’t have breathe then I wouldn’t be here writing this paragraph. My lungs also help me to talk to my family and friends about school cheerleading and that I do the drums.

Mia

The best part of me is my arms. Arms help me to play basketball. I can also play football with my arms.

Jironne

The best part of me is my brain because I wouldn’t be alive without a brain. If I didn’t have a brain I would not do anything. My brain helps me to do everything. I can learn with it and be really smart when I am older.

Jenny

The best part of me is my eyes so I can see colours because if I couldn’t I would only see black and white. I like my eyes because I can see the people I love. I wouldn’t know what they looked like. I like my eyes because I like to read and see the funny things it said.
