PRESIDENTS REPORT

It is again with a great deal of pride and pleasure that I compile this report. This season was

certainly another very successful year for Woonona Surf Club, yet again we can be proud to

continue our record of no lives lost whilst on patrol on Woonona beach. I would like to thank

all members of Woonona Surf club, especially the committee and executive members, for

their efforts this season. It is through great club involvement, enthusiasm, and a lot of hard

work that makes our surf club the great club it is.

Our Club’s achievements were recognised at this year’s Surf Life Saving Illawarra Branch

Awards:

Surf Lifesaving Illawarra Club of the Year

Runner up Surf Lifesaving Illawarra Patrolling Club of the Year

SLSI Community Education Program of the Year (Balranald Central School Surf Education visit

coordinated by John McInally).

Also during the year;

Madi Bow was awarded Young Citizen of the Year in the 2016 City of Wollongong Australia

Day Awards.

Congratulations to Macca and Madi on these achievements, and congratulations to all those

who were nominated for an awards at SLSI Awards of Excellence, and to all Club members

whose combined efforts led to us again being named SLSI Club of the Year. Macca now goes

on to be a nominee for the SLSNSW Awards of Excellence for the Community Education

Program of the Year, as does Woonona SLSC as a nominee for SLSNSW Club of the Year.

We could not operate without financial assistance, through the generous support of our

major sponsors we have been able to continue to maintain and develop our clubs lifesaving

service to the community. Equipment purchases made possible this season by the generous

support includes two new IRB Motors, two Surf Ski’s and several boards. As well as supporting

our nipper program. On behalf of all our members I would like to thank all our major

sponsors, and we hope your support will continue throughout next season;

This year our Club has continued its strong focus on member recognition and development, I

truly believe that continued recognition and development of our members has enabled our

club to keep improving year by year. Below is a list of the members who participated in

development programs;

Member Program

Rachel Dixon SLSA Leaders Masterclass

John McInally Beach to Bush

Raelene Jones Beach to Bush

Mathew Green SLSNSW 18-25 Development and Networking Program

Mitch Bell SLSNSW Lifesaving Exchange Program

Katie Bell SLSNSW Lifesaving Exchange Program

Jaime Carter Youth Opportunities Makers

Woonona SLSC again continued its high standard of Lifesaving, achieving runner up in SLSI Patrolling

Club of the Year. This is tribute to the vigilance and dedication of all Patrolling members, and of course

the fabulous leadership of Rachel Dixon as Director of Lifesaving. Congratulations, and well deserved

to all patrolling members!

I would like to make special mention of Joe Zautsen who achieved his National Service Medal this

season, this award recognizes outstanding long service to patrolling over 20 years. Also, Troy Johnson

who achieved his National Service Medal Clasp, which recognises outstanding long service to

patrolling for 30 years. Congratulations Joe and Troy, and thank you for your dedication and service

to our Club.

There were so many great things that happened this season. Nicholson Park Building works were

completed, giving us a lovely new storage area for our surf boats, and a new gym facility. But mostly

this freed up space within our own club house. This new storage gives our club space to grow. I would

like to personally thank Peter Rigby for the many hours spent on the phone liaising with Council and

many more hours at the Club or Nicholson Park working on the new security system. Thus ensuring

all works at the Club and Nicholson park went as planned, and even watering the new grass so it

wouldn’t die. Thanks Peter, the Club looks great!

Another highlight this season for our club was definitely the Balranald Central School Visit, organised

by John McInally. This was a massive week long program organised by Macca focused on Surf

awareness and education, and mostly having fun. This was a great experience for the kids as well as

for our members who got involved. This also spurred our members on to assisting in many other

Community Surf Education Programs for the remainder of the Season, I’m confident that this will

continue into future seasons. Thank you so much Macca for setting our Club on this journey of running

Community Surf Education programs, and thank you to the many club members who assisted on these

days. It truly made me so proud of our Club, when members just keep on volunteering and putting

their hand up to help out.

Page 28: Woonona Surf Life Saving Club Inc. Illawarra Club of the Year ...c1940652.r52.cf0.rackcdn.com/5817de2eff2a7c37a30016c0/...Woonona Surf Life Saving Club Inc. Illawarra Club of the Year

Another program that our club ran this season that needs special mention is the “Riding the Wave”

Inclusive Nippers Program. This was a great success, thank you so much to Brianna McInally and all

Club members who got involved in and helped out (a lot of Rookies helped as well which was fantastic

to see). We are definitely looking at continuing this program into future years.

On the competition front our IRB Team again performed well this season, coming away from the State

Premiership Series with four state medals. 1st in U23 Rescue; 1st in U23 Teams; 3rd in U23 Mass; 3rd

in Male Rescue. Resulting in the Team coming 6th Club in the overall State point score!

Congratulations to the IRB Team and we look forward great results at State Championships. The

training and achievements of members in this sport directly relate to improved efficiencies in our

patrol duties.

Participation in Surf Sports in general however has decreased in our Club over the last few seasons,

this is one area that I believe our Club needs to focus on in the coming seasons to continue to grow.

Surf Sports is a great way for our members to get active and social and builds team spirit and lifesaving

skills. We currently have a great bunch of Rookies; strong numbers within our nippers, but we need

to do more to support and encourage these members’ participation in Surf Sports. Also supporting

our Senior section to get involved, get fit and enjoy the variety of Surf Sports disciplines that are

available (Board, Ski, Surf Boat, IRB, Pool Rescue, Beach etc). So I encourage you to consider getting

involved in and supporting Surf Sports in our Club next season, even if it’s coming down and joining in

with social board or swim sessions.

Lastly I would like to call on all Club members’ ongoing support for the coming season, and help

to make it another great year. Let’s build from here and add to our hard work. I look forward to what

our club can achieve next year!

DIRECTOR OF ADMINISTRATION REPORT

This was my first year as Director of Administration and holding an executive/committee

position. It was certainly a steep learning curve but I would like to thank the previous Director

of Administration (Helen Bow) for her smooth handover and all of the Committee for their

support this year. I would also like to thank the team of people that support me in this role:

Jocelyn Odewahn for again performing the role of Registrar so capably.

Vanessa McInally for reliably producing the monthly newsletters in her role as

Publicity Officer

Peter Rigby for his perseverance in maintaining our website, collecting the mail for me

(and then regularly on-delivering to members of the committee when required).

DIRECTOR OF LIFESAVING REPORT

The flags have been lowered on another season at Woonona Beach, at this time I’d like to

thank all our Patrolling members for a great season. Unfortunately, this season is one of the

worst in the past decade along the NSW coastline, with far too many drowning deaths

including two in the Illawarra, both after patrol hours. The message is clear and the lesson

can save lives – No Flags, No Swim.

I thank you for your selfless devotion of time and energy towards maintaining the safety of

swimmers and beach-goers at Woonona and in the Illawarra. The professionalism and

dedication of our patrolling members is exceptional and I am proud to stand beside you as

part of such a wonderful team. This season our beach attendance was approximately

17,000people (during patrol hours). We performed over 2,500 Patrolling hours; completed

27 Rescues including 6 Tube, 5 Board and 8 IRB; performed 401 Preventative Actions and 81

First Aid Treatments. Most of these were Marine Stings, but we also had dislocations,

fractures, fin chops and lots of cuts and grazes thanks to Collins Rocks.

This season we did exceptionally in the Branch and Wollongong Council audit program,

achieving several 100% audits (that damn loud hailer was the only thing to let us down).

Patrols worked extremely well, not only during normal patrols but also supported the Club’s

various education programs, providing a safe beach for Nippers, Ride the Wave, Afghani

Community Day, Balranald School visit and several other programs throughout the season. It

is due to this high level of vigilance and service that Woonona was awarded 2nd place in the

Patrolling Club of the Year for Illawarra Branch. This level of performance could not have

been achieved without the support and dedication of ALL of our Lifesavers, and is an

achievement we should all be very proud of.

Page 31: Woonona Surf Life Saving Club Inc. Illawarra Club of the Year ...c1940652.r52.cf0.rackcdn.com/5817de2eff2a7c37a30016c0/...Woonona Surf Life Saving Club Inc. Illawarra Club of the Year

Smiles all around at the Afghani Community Day

I’m proud to say this season we have continued to grow our skills and assets. Patrols have

been replenished by new Bronze and SRC members, some of the most energetic and keen

people I have seen! It has been great to see members increase their skills through education

including our home-trained group of new Crewies; but also by attending SLS programs with

SLSNSW and SLSA. We continue to upgrade our assets, purchasing two new motors, a new

First Aid kit, loud hailer and board amongst other items in an effort to ensure our Patrols have

all the gear they need to perform on the beach. Mid-season the Branch jet ski RWC3 was

relocated to our club, allowing us to directly link in with Branch Support Operations and offer

another level of service to Woonona and the surrounding beaches. This is great recognition

of our professionalism, ability and reliability in supporting Illawarra Branch.

Thanks to all of the Patrol Captains for your

support this season. Thanks to Morgan for her

support and assistance as Vice Club Captain this

season. Thanks to the Educations team for their

tireless work in running proficiencies and

courses, but most of all thank to every member

who pulled on the red and yellow this season.

Thank you for turning up week in week out, we

go about our work with a minimum of fuss and

we do it exceptionally well!

Congratulations to all the award nominees and winners for this season. Well done to the

Patrol of the Year, Patrol 4, it was a very tight race this season with only the smallest point of

difference between the winners and second place. Congratulations to Mitch Bell, our Patrol

Person of the Year, it has been wonderful watching you develop as a lifesaver and look

forward to seeing you further develop your skills and knowledge in the future.

Thanks for another great year where due to the skill and diligence of the members of

Woonona Surf Lifesaving Club we maintain our record of ‘no lives lost whilst on patrol’.

DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION REPORT

The year started strong with a number of members completing their Advanced Resuscitation

Techniques early in the season. Two mixed Bronze/Surf Rescue Certificate courses were

undertaken prior to Christmas with a number of new faces including Rookies and SRC parents.

It was a pleasure for Kieran, Katie, Ben and myself to train these new people with Phil expertly

assisting and assessing. Six members completed their Silver Medallion Basic Beach

Management award increasing the number of potential patrol captains. We had a staggering

12 members complete their Spinal Management award and another 12 members undertake

the IRB Crewpersons award. Several members completed the Provide First Aid award. A Silver

Medallion Aquatic Rescue course was completed by two members, and finally congratulations

to Bethany Quinn for becoming a qualified IRB Driver this season.

Further congratulations to Mitch Bell and Kieran Smith for undertaking their Training Officer's

Certificate, and to Ben Clarke for undertaking the mammoth effort to become a Certified

Trainer in Resuscitation, Bronze Medallion, SRC, and the IRB Crewpersons Awards. Becoming

a trainer is an all-consuming task, and we are very lucky to have some great upcoming talent.

Of course, we are also lucky to have some fantastic mentors in the club including Phil Geary

who has volunteered many hours, taken too many phone calls, and been an all round leader

in the education department. Thank you Phil.

Education extends beyond completing awards to proficiency, pre-proficiency fitness training

sessions, nippers’ education, online activities and resources, educating the wider community,

and creating a safe and informed membership to enable us to carry out our roles as lifesavers

with competence and confidence. Thank you to everyone who contributed to the education

of our members and wider community over the season including nippers Age Managers,

patrol captains, John McInally with the Balranald Primary School children, those who assisted

with the Refugee group surf days, and so many others. Truly, we are a better surf club because

of you.

Finally, the education team runs on about 10% people, and 90% paperwork. This includes

countless emails and the introduction of the weekly e-team newsletter to communicate to

our membership. A BIG thank you to Gerard Dorge for his tireless effort in this respect – it is

a highly time consuming role that takes vigilance and good spelling, so thank you.

Thank you also to Gerard who stepped up to assist Stacey and the committee when I resigned

in December 2016. Along with Phil, Ben and surely many others, Gerard ensured that

members received constant communication, were encouraged to complete awards, and

made sure the club's paperwork was up to scratch. Thank you!

To those coming back next season I urge you to do three things:

1. Get fit for the season – it will help on proficiency day, and for the rest of the season!

2. Complete proficiency as early as possible!

3. Complete a new award! There are so many to choose from!

Thank you everyone for your time and effort. It does not go unappreciated, and our

community is better because you're in it!

DIRECTOR OF JUNIOR ACTIVITIES REPORT

The 2015-16 season saw 178 nippers and rookies take to the surf. Again we had an abundance

of space for beach events, novelty and water areas. I think it would be fair to say that the

nippers had a great time throughout the year, and we were reasonably well looked after by

Mother Nature.

Again the skills program built by the Junior Activities Committee last year was a great success.

I watch with great interest each year as the Under 9’s embrace the ocean events for the first

time transitioning from the pool. I am continually amazed at the enthusiasm (and bravery) for

the ocean – well done 9’s!

It was great to see so many new families come along as I did a couple of years ago, new to

nippers and enjoy the Sunday mornings at Woonona Beach, our small slice of paradise. It was

also great to see so many parents getting involved and helping out with the events.

On a more serious note, I’d like to say a special thank you to a couple

of people, for the support and effort they have put in throughout the

season. Firstly, a huge thanks to Rachel as our Water Safety Supervisor.

Rach has done a fantastic job throughout the season, making sure all

our nippers were safe week in week out. On behalf of all the nippers

and age managers – thanks for a great year Rachel, awesome job.

Next in line are the team of club members who week in week out

pulled on a water safety shirt and made it possible for the kids to get

in the water. Without you guys each week, there’d be no water events,

so again on behalf of all the nippers and age managers – thanks again

to the water safety team.

Page 36: Woonona Surf Life Saving Club Inc. Illawarra Club of the Year ...c1940652.r52.cf0.rackcdn.com/5817de2eff2a7c37a30016c0/...Woonona Surf Life Saving Club Inc. Illawarra Club of the Year

Some of the water safety team who help keep our nippers safe

A HUGE thanks to our amazing crew of age managers – Morgan Clarke, Tamarah Clarke, Mark

Pyc, Peter Hackett, Gab Bow, Mitch Bell, Jaime Carter, Alex Chaston, Jess Saywell, Morgan

Mackinnon, Caitlyn Odewahn, Bruce Blunden. As I said at presentation, I truly believe we are

blessed with the best team of age mangers in the entire Illawarra, we win club of the year

because of people like you guys. You are a great bunch of volunteers to work with, making

my job super easy. Thanks, and I hope you enjoyed it enough to come back and do it again

next year. I know the kids would love to see you back with them next season.

Age managers are crucial to our nippers program

Page 37: Woonona Surf Life Saving Club Inc. Illawarra Club of the Year ...c1940652.r52.cf0.rackcdn.com/5817de2eff2a7c37a30016c0/...Woonona Surf Life Saving Club Inc. Illawarra Club of the Year

Thank you to my beach set-up buddies: Curtis Kain and Greg Binskin. Together we tried our

best to make sure the activities on the beach were set in the best possible locations. A big help

that I really appreciate. Also a big thankyou to Michelle Johnson who organised and

coordinated the nippers BBQ, and to all the nipper parents who helped with the BBQ during

the season.

On the competition front this season we managed to get 14

competitors across the various competition events throughout

the year, which is a great effort. We had some fantastic results

with a few wins and minor placings, but best and most

important of all everyone competed well and had plenty of fun.

I’m hoping on the back of this year’s success, we can get a few

more competitors next year – it would be great to see a

Woonona relay team at branch carnival………there’s a

challenge.

Page 38: Woonona Surf Life Saving Club Inc. Illawarra Club of the Year ...c1940652.r52.cf0.rackcdn.com/5817de2eff2a7c37a30016c0/...Woonona Surf Life Saving Club Inc. Illawarra Club of the Year

Thanks to the hard work of our sponsorship team the nippers secured sponsorship for new surf

equipment this season. We welcomed a couple of new bigger soft boards for the older age groups,

which were a huge hit.

Soft boards in action

Page 39: Woonona Surf Life Saving Club Inc. Illawarra Club of the Year ...c1940652.r52.cf0.rackcdn.com/5817de2eff2a7c37a30016c0/...Woonona Surf Life Saving Club Inc. Illawarra Club of the Year

With such a great group of nippers it was a difficult task deciding on the winners for our junior awards.

Congratulations to our age champions and encouragement award winners – you are all incredibly

deserving and we hope to see you back next year defending your titles!

Special congratulations to the Female Competitors of the Year, Ruby Brannon & Jasmine Fowler, and

the Male Competitor of the Year, Max Dignam, and Max also was awarded the Ron Nipperess

Memorial Award for the Best Sandgroper for the 3rd successive year.

Finally, our most prestigious junior’s award, Most Outstanding Stingray, was awarded to Alexandra

Blunden for her wonderful efforts and contribution. Alex has been participating in surf club and

nippers since U6s, and this year developed the competition bug where she represented our club at

branch and state level, placing 1st in Flags at Branch. She is competent in the surf and beach, and she

has developed into a great competitor who will without doubt continue into the senior club.

This about wraps it up for 2015-16 as Director of Junior Activities. I look forward to seeing you all again

next year and enjoying another summer on the sand.

BOAT CAPTAIN’S REPORT

Another wrap up for a season of Woonona Surf Club's Surfboat section. With a great young

selection of development rowers coming through the ranks from the junior club, our club is

confident on making substantial improvements in the competitive arena within the next few

seasons ahead.

Our development crew of Under 19's juniors consisted of Jaime Carter, Ethan Gray, William

Gilmore & Harrison Rose. Under the guidance of both the legendary Troy Johnson & Stacey

Paddon, the four young rowers have made great progress during this year’s training.

During the 2015-16 season, our other crews (Reserve Men’s & Vet Men’s) encountered

external obstacles that rendered them to re-assess the current season, and the decision to

prepare for the following season was established for both crews.

With our Surf club gaining the Nicholson Park facility, and building a new gym while re-locating

the boat storage area. This acquisition shows the positive direction of the club and the

emphasis on club fitness over the forthcoming years.

We are all excited to see this Under 19's crew grow, develop and compete this coming year

with other familiar faces coming back for another fantastic season of boat rowing at Woonona

SLSC.

IRB CAPTAIN’S REPORT

Another year has rolled past for our lifesaving motor-heads, and what a year it has been!

From a lifesaving front, we have a newly accredited IRB driver, namely Bethany Quinn. A

crewman’s course was run during the second half of the season, where we saw 11 bronzies

successfully obtaining their crew certificate. Hats off to the new crewies who trained on the

day where we had 6 foot sets – if you can crew in that, you can crew in anything! Well done.

Next season both an IRB drivers and crewman’s course will be run in order to make current

and new members of our club proficient in the duck. The IRB is our most crucial and valuable

lifesaving asset – if you don’t already hold these certificates, please consider attending next

seasons courses!

This season, our club also made some big purchases ramping up the quality and quantity of

our IRB equipment and gear. We have purchased two brand new motors using the

Government’s Beach Safety Equipment Fund Grant. One of these motors will be used for

patrol and the other for an award-winning IRB Race Team. Thanks to our friends at Leisure

Coast Marine, these motors are serviced on a regular basis, ensuring the quality of the motors

are maintained.

As always, our IRB race season has been nothing less but a successful one! This year, our team

consists of two under 23s teams/open male teams, a female team, and dedicated patients.

While we are still half-way through the premiership, here is a taste of the results we have

been achieving so far – in Round 1 at Caves Beach, the teams made 5 finals and placed in

every one. Jake & Patch came 2nd in the U23s Mass Rescue. The U23 teams came 3rd in the

Teams Events. Benji & Nathan came 1st in the U23s Rescue, 3rd in the Open Mass and 2nd in

the Open Rescue. At Round 2, Benji & Nathan’s crew was head hunted by the State

Development IRB Team! Exciting times ahead! We wouldn’t be able to achieve any of this

without the support of the club – thank you!

Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Josh Clarke, our former IRB Captain, who

had to resign half-way through this season for career motives. Josh was Woonona’s IRB

Captain for 5 years, and he has done a great job in mentoring new and upcoming drivers and

crews, leading the IRB race team to success, ensuring our lifesaving equipment was always

ready for use, providing IRB water safety at Nippers, and being a generally great member. You

will be missed Josh! Thank you!

That’s a wrap for this year in IRBs. As the duckies say, CHOPPED!!

GYM MANAGER REPORT

What a great year for Woonona SLSC gymnasium! This season saw us take over the Nicholson

Park building, and refurbish a little less than half of it to a modern - and sand free I might add

- fitness space. Many hands made light work in transporting the gear across, so a big thanks

to the hands of our members who took part in the move.

The support of the committee this year also allowed the purchase of new gear and

equipment, in particular a brand spanking new GHD machine ready to develop those buns of

yours into tight and tough bullet proof keisters.

We hope to see many more members join the ranks of the muscle kitchen in the seasons to

come, promoting fitness and strength in both the on and off seasons. And if you’re lucky you

might even catch local powerlifting celebrity couple Aaron and Jess down doing a few reps.

To gain access to the gym, contact Mitch 0415 553 313.

SOCIAL COMMITTEE REPORT

Woonona Surf Lifesaving Club is a club dedicated to making beaches safe, and it performs

that duty incredibly well. What is also important to the Club is family, providing a place of

belonging and a place to have some fun.

The Social Committee has worked very hard this season to welcome new members, provide

opportunities for everyone to get together socially and of course have some FUN!

The Committee members this season were:

Gail Evert, Megan Tremain, Vanessa McInally, Mitch Bell, Katie Bell, Beth Quinn, Amanda

Dorge, Matt Green and myself. We met regularly to plot and plan events.

SIPPERS

Throughout the season, we held a number of successful SIPs (a casual drink and BBQ on a

Sunday afternoon). These were well attended and sometimes dedicated to special events

such as Welcome to the Season, End of the Season, etc. New friendships were made, kids got

to run around for a few hours and everyone had a great time.

TRIVIA NIGHT

This season we brought “Trivia Night” back. Without a doubt, our most successful event! A

BIG thankyou to Mitch Bell and Katie Bell for their enthusiasm and hard work. We filled the

clubhouse and again everyone had a great night.

BAREFOOT BOWLS

Early in the season we had a “Bare Foot Bowls” afternoon which again was fun for all. Thanks

to Matt Green for organising another opportunity for our members to get together.

NIPPERS

We are one club and in that vein the committee assisted Anthony our Director of the Junior

Club with the Nippers presentation. Many a sausage sandwich was eaten that day and it was

a great way to end another successful season for our Nippers.

PRESENTATION NIGHT

As I write this report, the Club is working hard on organising the end of season Presentation

– the night where members are thanked and recognised for their dedication to their

community service. The bar fridge will be full, the food will be great and live music to dance

to! I know it will be a great night.

As I close I would like to thank the members of the Social Committee. Everyone is busy these

days and yet they made time to help our Club be the awesome place that it is!

FUNDRAISING REPORT

Woonona Surf Club relies heavily on the generosity of the public in making sure we have

enough funds to keep the Surf Club operational and keep our equipment up to date. More

important than the generosity of our local community is the generosity of our members

who freely give of their time to make sure these fundraising events can go ahead. A special

mention to the social committee for their assistance with all fundraising events this year!

Appeals Day

This is one of our biggest fundraisers and it’s great to see all our club members seeming to be

everywhere in Woonona on the one day. It was a fantastic opportunity for the local

community to donate some funds to the surf club. A huge thank you to all of the patrolling

members who gave up their Saturday morning to help walk the streets of Woonona.

Trivia Night

This year a Trivia Night was held which was a tremendous success. All who attended had a

fantastic night filled with trivia, games and a wonderful atmosphere. A huge thank you to

Mitch Bell who was the driving force behind the night – it couldn’t have been done without

you. This event was a great fundraiser which was able to bring together the community and

the club for a fun night all around.

Nipper’s Raffle

Lastly, a very successful Easter Raffle was held with the help of the Nipper’s and their parents.

This gave an opportunity for the littlest members of our club to help out and use their

cuteness to raise some money for our club! Thank you to all parents and Age managers who

assisted in the distribution, selling and collecting of the raffle tickets.

HALL REPORT & HOUSE COMMITTEE

Woonona Surf Club has continued to support the local community, charity organisations and of course its members during the last twelve months by providing a community facility which is used on a weekly basis by many and varied groups. In the past 12 months the House Committee has continued from previous seasons actions to improve the club facilities and amenities. The Nicholson Park development has now been finalised and our Gym and Boat Shed have been relocated which has freed up a lot of space in the storage areas below the Club House. With this extra space the Committee has plans to reorganise the downstairs area to make it more usable and accessible. A Working Bee will be on the calendar before the start of the Season to get this finalised. With the finalisation of Nicholson Park Wollongong City Council has also resumed a part of the area downstairs for the Council Lifeguards which has required a number of changes to the old gym and storage areas. Within the club house, following representation from the club committee, the eastern side windows have finally been replaced. This is aimed at improving the waterproofing of the club and compliance with modern standards.

DIRECTOR OF FINANCE REPORT FOR FINANCIAL YEAR 2015/2016

This year has seen a decrease in our gross income when compared to the 2014/15 year but

we managed to exceed our budget forecasts for the year which in itself is a great result. Our

overall gross income was down this year compared to previous years. The Committee is

constantly monitoring the income and expenditure of the Club to ensure that we have a

strong financial base for the Club to operate with.

This year saw the Club continue to invest in the future with the upgrade of Nicholson Park

and the installation of the surf boat storage area as well as the gym.

We are constantly seeking out new sponsors in order to grow the income of the Club and

enable us to further resource the activities of the Club. These activities are not just limited to

our role as Surf Life Savers but also for our competitors, our Nippers and the social activities

of the Club.

I would like to publicly thank all of the Committee Members for their assistance this year but

I would like to make a special mention to the Club Treasurer Gabi Bow for making my role so

much easier during the last twelve months, your assistance has been invaluable. I would also

like to thank Helen Bow and the Social Committee, Katie Bell in Fundraising, Peter Rigby and

Troy Johnson all of who have provided significant assistance in organising various activities

during the last twelve months.
