Two necklaces crafted by AHCP members
WOPEPEACATALOGUE 2012
WoPepea is an environmentally friendly jewelry brand that provides hand-made unique necklaces, bracelets and earrings made of recycled paper. It was started as a socially responsible project by African Health & Community program in November 2010.
Our jewelry is hand-made by women in Kibera slum Kenya who through WoPepea gain economic independence, increased skills as well as awareness within environmental sustainability and economy. By supporting us, you not only give an income to a woman, but also ensure that our organization can continue supporting our efforts in the areas of children and youth. WoPepea jewelry strives to make that difference – to you and us. We hope wearing our jewelry will give you a lot of joy!
How our Jewelry is producedWoPepea jewelry uses paper beads, made out of recycled paper. The women produce the paper beads by measuring and cutting the paper and by rolling the beads. No additional color is added, the color of the bead comes directly from the original paper. In order to make the beads durable and shiny they get varnished twice. After the beads have dried, they get sorted and the women design each unique piece of jewelry.

The name “WoPepea” is a derivation of the Swahili word for butterfly “kipepeo.”
