This project reevaluates the role of the detail and its place within the traditional hierarchy of mass and organization. To remove the original building model from its idealized setting as depicted on the cover of its box and redefine it by elevating the details from superficial applications to influential structural and spacial defining factors. The process was initiated through four studies where details were placed on basic volumes that were then manipulated according to the chosen details. The final model represents the cul- mination of a structure defined by the details and discoveries instigated in the initial studies developing an invasiveness of the details that effectively reshapes the structure according to what was previously a superficial application of detail. This project reevaluates the role of the detail and its place within the traditional hierarchy of mass and

organization. To remove the original building model from its idealized setting as depicted on the cover of

its box and redefine it by elevating the details from superficial applications to influential structural and

spacial defining factors. The process was initiated through four studies where details were placed on basic

volumes that were then manipulated according to the chosen details. The final model represents the cul-

mination of a structure defined by the details and discoveries instigated in the initial studies developing

an invasiveness of the details that effectively reshapes the structure according to what was previously a

superficial application of detail.

Twisted InteractionThis building, developed as a “campus”, consists of a series of separate spaces that can be used to house different operations that are beneficial to the operation of

a large manufacturer or corporation. The “campus” set up allows for the separation of program (i.e. marketing, product development, sales, and administration as

well as whatever else might be needed) while still allowing proximity between the separate areas of operation for efficient interdepartmental communication.

Tapered Tenancy

This project was initiated through experi-

mentation with animation software. Inspira-

tion was found within a series of drawings

that produced an ethereal effect. This effect

was created through multiplication, layering

and an attenuated redirection of multiple

lines.

Ground Level

Level 33

This project generated a concept for an educatorium by taking an extruded campus plan, turning it up on

its side and folding it in on itself. This method of development creates not only an interesting distribution of

space but also a compelling interaction between program variations.

Relative MassA multi-family public housing development on the border between the Eixample (a zone with a distinct city plan implemented in the late 18th century)

and Gracia (a neighborhood that grew organically without much planning) areas of Barcelona. Special attention was required in creating a connection

between the two areas of differing levels of planned development, developing continuous circulation and sight lines within the apartments, as well as

a relationship to the park located to the west of the site.

Conceived as a reflection into Rayner Banhams ideas of the aes-

thetic of design, the interior and the expendable and its relation to

that of the aesthetic of architecture, the permanent and the monu-

ment. With architecture adopting the aesthetic of expendability to

the exterior expression we are left with the interior as the platform

for monumentality. This project is an attempt to convey the ideas

and aesthetics of the perennity and the monumental to the in-

terior as defined by the four attributes of material, weight, scale

Interior asMonument

and symmetry. Each is addressed with regard to maximizing its

longevity by adjusting its monetary value (material), its physical

movability (weight), its perceptive impact (scale) and its univer-

sal usability through formal arrangement (symmetry).
