Information for Website Owners

Information for Network Operators

Information for Vendors

Information for Other Organizations

Need volunteers to produce one or two paragraphs for each of the above that we could put on a page and link to? I’ll draft the piece for other organizations.

Involving Others

• Announcements• Scoping the activity• Channeling enthusiasm

Announcements• ISOC will be making announcement presentations leading up to

the event, would be good to include participants in same events:– RIPE61 (Lorenzo: [http://ripe61.ripe.net/presentations/223-

World_IPv6_day.pdf])– NANOG51 (Proposed Leslie, panel Google, Yahoo, Rackspace)– IPv6 World Congress AAAA panel 11 Feb Paris (several participants will

be presenting in the Congress, Phil plans to talk about it on the Friday)– APRICOT (Confirmed Leslie)– IETF (how exactly?)– RIPE62– LACNIC XV?– AfriNIC? Afnog?

• Working on a canned set of slides (3 or 4, see later)

Scoping the Activity• Top 10 Alexa websites (29 Nov):

– Google– Facebook– YouTube– Yahoo!– WindowsLive?– Baidu (should we make an effort to involve them?)– Wikipedia?– Blogger– QQ (should we make an effort to involve them?)– Twitter?

• Other interested parties:– CNN– Ebay– Amazon– Cisco– … (probably many)

• What about limiting the scope of the activity on June 6 for measurement purposes?

Channeling Enthusiasm

• People will want to participate, collaborate, organize, steer, etc., …– APNIC e.g.

• Perhaps a corresponding meeting/event would be a good opportunity?– Give folks who want to help an opportunity to do

something– Marketing/PR opportunity?– If so, when? Early (as a kick-off) or at the time of the

event (but doers will be with their routers….) or both?

Open Issues(1)• Name

– IPv6 Day– World IPv6 Day– One IPv6 Day– AAAA Day

• Date– June 6, 2011(this is the target week) – That’s a Monday– People will make the connection to D-day more than the shutdown of

the 6-bone– How do we connect similar events happening sooner?

• Time– 0001 to 2400 UTC?

Open Issues(2)

• Measurements– What needs to be measured?• Before the day• During the day• After the day

– How does it get measured?

Open Issues(3)

• Coordination on the day of the event:– How do we communicate?– How does one go about backing out if things are

pear-shaped? What might criteria be for that? Is there someway to agree about a criteria so one provider doesn’t surprise others if they back out?

Open Issues (4)

• Is there a fail-safe date (date to back out)?– What is it?– Are there criteria for a go/no-go decision that

everyone agrees to?

Technical open issues

• OS things that would be great to fix before IPv6 Day– Microsoft…– Apple…

• CPE issues
