The 1st stage research was for analyzing the impact of Climate Change on five BRs - Jeju BR (East China Sea), Macchabee/Bel Ombre BR (Indian Ocean), Menorca BR (Mediterranean), St. Mary's BR (Caribean Sea), Príncipe Island BR (Atlantic). The research which is processed up to now, are as below; Analyzing the Socioeconomic, Geological, Ecological Characteristics of each BR Greenhouse Gas Emission and the State of Climate Change at each BR. Climate Change Policies being implemented at each BR. Analyzing the Impacts of Climate Change Analyzing the common and different vulnerable sectors to Climate Change among the 5 BRs The final report of the 1 st stage research covering the above five themes was presented at the 5 th World Network of Island and Coastal Biosphere Reserves during 24-26th, March, 2015 in Attard, Malta. The 2 nd stage research framework was also introduced at the meeting. The presentation was done by Dr. Jeong, the principal investigator, and Dr. Abreu, the researcher for Principe Island BR and St. Mary’s BR. Promoting the Activities for Utilizing BR Brand Product Being Produced in Island and Coastal

Biosphere Reserves in Korea

At the island and coastal biosphere reserve regions in Korea, there were several BR logo patent application and promotion activities to raise

the value of the brand and vitalize the local products.Jeju Island BR, had applied for a patent of the BR logo in 2012, and now using this logo on the packing boxes of 48 products from 18 local

companies. Gochang BR had applied for a patent of the BR logo in February, 2014, and operated a demonstration service of 27 products from

23 organizations, related with environment friendly certification. They are now progressing trademark registration of 16 products. These two BRs recently operated an exhibition booth for promoting the BR brand product during the ‘Biodiversity Day Event’, 22~24, May, 2015, at DongBaek DongSan Wetland Center in Jeju, Republic of Korea. During this event Jeju BR and Gochang BR had displayed all the BR Brand products. Jeju BR provided free-sample stand of Jeju sasa bamboo sausage, yogurt, and Gochang BR provided mulberry ice flake to the visitors. The BR brand value is expected to be raised and result in local economic activation by these continuous promotion.

The 3rd UNESCO Training Course for Island and Coastal Biosphere Reserve Managers will be held in October, 2015

The 3rd UNESCO Training Course for Island and Coastal Biosphere Reserve Managers is scheduled to run this year. It is an educational support for the administrators and managers of island and coastal biosphere reserves. This training course which will be held in Jeju World Natural Heritage Center in upcoming October, is for the managers in charge of new designated BRs or in developing countries, to make them understand the meaning and intention point of BR sites with an aim to raise awareness on climate change vulnerability. During the training course, the participants could join various programs such as lectures on climate change and sustainable development in island and coastal biosphere reserves, roundtable discussion to share knowledge and ideas with each other, and field trip to Jeju Biosphere Reserve, etc. The recruitment of participants will be announced at the end of August on the Jeju Secretariat website UNESCO MAB website, and accept application form by online. The selection of participant will be made by taking into account the following considerations.

< Priority in Consideration on Inviting Participant>• Recently designated biosphere reserves since 2013• Developing countries

• Regions that have not participated in any programme hosted by WNICBR

• Equal allocation of participants by continent

The participants who are selected by the above considerations (1 participant per biosphere reserve), will be provided benefits such as international round air ticket, accommodation, local transportation, meals etc. Moreover, in case of additional volunteer from the selected BR, they will be conditionally sponsored. It is expected to be a great forum for the participants to share mutual information and gain a foothold to establish management system. Fundy Biosphere Reserve Focuses on Future Forests Since 2013, the Fundy Biosphere Reserve has shifted its climate change work to focus on conservation and ensuring forest health inour region. Through our Climate Change Resilient Forest Corridors Project, we have identified climate change resilient tree species and mapped out where those species are currently located within the Biosphere Reserve. In the summer of 2014, we planted 2,500 climate resilient trees in key areas in the reserve to create forest corridors between the Reserve's protected areas. These corridors will allow wildlife to pass through more easily and also ensure that the forests continue to thrive as the climate changes. FBR staff also hosted free outdoor workshops, where we presented our research and connected with the public, encouraging communities and local landowners to plant climate resilient tree species on their lands. The FBR has created a pamphlet that describes the eight “winners” for the changing climate. This pamphlet describes the trees and their preferred growing conditions so that woodlot owners, foresters, municipalities, and the general public are armed with the right information about what to plant and where. By planning ahead for climate change and planting tree species that have a better chance to thrive, we can help ensure that there will be healthy and beautiful trees in our neighborhoods and parks as

well as in the forest, to be enjoyed by generations to come.

UNESCO Mission in Príncipe Island

The Biosphere Reserve of UNESCO Príncipe Island continues to promote the Autonomous Region and the country itself when attracting the visit of international leaders, such as the UNESCO Mission and the Spanish Ministry of the Environment, from the 10th to 14th February, 2015. In addition to assessing the project "The Challenge of Water and Recycle", those responsible for the mission - Dr. Miguel Clusener-Godt, UNESCO's MAB Programme and Dr. Francisco Cantos Mengs, from the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Environment in Spain, had the opportunity to hold meetings with the President of the Regional Government of Principe (Eng José Cassandra). They visited several locations on the island in order to address issues related to the conservation of nature and biodiversity, coastal management and marine protected area, nature vigilante training and management of residues, among others. The Mission congratulated the performance of the Regional Government and the Biosphere Reserve as well as the population of Principe for their work in the conservation of nature and the decisive contribution to the preservation of some priority species

worldwide as is the case with the different turtle species that nest on the beaches of Príncipe Island. The mission also had the opportunity to meet with the Honorable Ministers of Foreign Affairs and the Environment who discussed the functioning of the MAB National Committee and the future creation of a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve on Sao Tome Island.

Responsible Príncipe – Certification System

In order to promote good environmental practices and the promotion of local products, the Príncipe Island World Biosphere Reserve has created the Certification System "RESPONSIBLE PRÍNCIPE". So from now on, products, services and entities can obtain their certification as agents interested in promoting and adding value to local

products, the environment and social responsibility, while providing increased visibility and public credibility. This certification intends to highlight local producers and entrepreneurs who implement responsible practices in accordance with the principles of the Biosphere Reserve. In this way, tourists and visitors to the island will have a guarantee that the products and services with the label

"Responsible Principe," not only have their quality certified and authenticated by the Reserve, but also show their origin to be sustainable and the responsible owner / producer, a contributor to the sustainable development of Príncipe Island.

“Adding value to local products, the environment and social responsibility,”
