His experience includes being an Associate in Health Services Research at the Durham Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC), a staff physician at the Duke Diet and Fitness Center physician. He has also been an Ambulatory Care Staff Physician at the Durham VAMC, co-director of the Durham VA Stop Smoking Clinic, Director of Occupational Health at the Durham VAMC, and a Resident Ambulatory Care Coordinator. Doctor Eric Westman - the renowned expert on combatting obesity, diabetes and other lifestyle or diet-related illnesses - will be one of the notable speakers that will feature at the upcoming Fat Future Banquet Fundraiser on 27 October at the Table Bay Hotel.

Currently, Dr Westman is the President of the American Society of Bariatric Physician and a Fellow of the Obesity Society. He is Associate Professor of Medicine at Duke University Health System and serves on the Faculty of the Duke Clinical Research Training Program. He is also the Course Director for a Fourth Year Medical Student Elective in Obesity Management.
He is a co-author of "The New Atkins for a New You”, “Cholesterol Clarity" and the co-editor of the medical textbook, “Obesity: Evaluation and Treatment Essentials”. He is also co-founder

Fat Future BanquetHosted by The Noakes Foundation, Fat Future: A Banquet Fundraiser takes place on Tuesday 27 October at the Table Bay Hotel in Cape Town. The Noakes Foundation aims to raise R1.5 million to extend the community programme, Eat Better South Africa! All proceeds raised at this event will go to this programme, which is earmarked to commence on 1 November.
Professor Tim NoakesProf Noakes was born in Harare, Zimbabwe in 1949. As a youngster, he had a keen interest in sport and attended Diocesan College in Cape Town. Following this, he studied at the University of Cape Town (UCT) and obtained an MBChB degree in 1974, an MD in 1981 and a DSc (Med) in Exercise Science in 2002. In the early 90s, Noakes teamed up with Morné du Plessis to drive the founding of the Sports Science
Institute of South Africa (SSISA). Prof Noakes has published more than 750 scientific books and articles. He has been cited more than 16 000 times in scientific literature, has an H-index of 71 and is rated an A1 scientist by the National Research Foundation of South Africa.
