Core Values

4

• Jesus Christ is the Lord over all and the only source of salvation. Salvation is a gift of God through His grace and our faith.

CHRIST CENTERED

• The Scriptures of the Old and New Testament are the written Word of God and the foundation for our beliefs, practices and personal behavior.

BIBLICALLY GROUNDED

• The Holy Spirit is the source for our strength, renewal, and transformation.

SPIRIT EMPOWERED

• We are committed to care for one another.

PEOPLE FOCUSED

• We are a missional congregation, moved by the needs of others, actively giving, sharing, and partnering with Christian groups locally and globally.

COMPASSION DRIVEN

• All of us are ministers and each one of us has been gifted personally by God and called to serve others and share God’s resources with others. We are called together to worship the living God faithfully and joyfully through the proclamation of the Word, music, the sacraments, prayer, and the arts.

MINISTRY ENGAGED

• We are called personally to proclaim by Word and Action the life of Jesus Christ that liberates people by God’s grace from their sinfulness and to extend Christ’s hospitality to all.

LOVE REFLECTED

• We are called to teach Christian values to all, especially our children, as the foundation of our lives.

LOVE TRANSMITTED

• We will seek to build one another up by using language that is truthful and loving. We seek to speak directly and lovingly with one another.

LOVE SPOKEN

There’s a great passage in Matthew about flourishing disciples, where Jesus says, “You’re the light of the world! A city can’t be hidden if it’s on top of a hill. People don’t light a lamp and put it under a bucket; they put it on a lampstand. Then it gives light to everybody in the house. That’s how you must shine your light in front of people! Then they will see what wonderful things you do, and they’ll give glory to your father in heaven” (Matthew 5:14-16).

Did you catch that? Jesus said we are the light of the world, and we shine so that people will glorify the Father. But, how we can make this type of impact? Worship + 2 is about answering that question.

5

When the faith you’re living

becomes more than a checklist...

When the church you’re part of

becomes more than a building…

When the worship you attend becomes more than

sitting, than standing…

You’re a Flourishing

Disciple

We’ll be talking a lot about Worship + 2. This brochure outlines what the initiative is all about. So, as you read through the opportunities in this brochure, ask Jesus, “Where do You want me to grow at Bethel Church? How will I make an impact for You through Bethel Church?”

We’re excited about what the Spirit will do through Worship + 2!

Grace and peace,

Pastor Tom

Worship + 2 ChallengeInside this booklet you will find opportunities and ministries that we hope will strengthen your relationship with Jesus Christ and stretch you as you use your gifts in service to His Kingdom. To enhance your engagement in church life and relationships, consider the Worship + 2 challenge:

How do I accept the challenge? Commit to do the following:

Worship on a regular basis, on Sunday mornings and in daily devotional times.

Find a place to Grow (be spiritually fed and nurtured):• Join a Life Group, Bible study, Sunday School Class, Youth Group,

Men’s Retreat, Men’s Prayer Breakfast or Women’s Circle, etc.

Find a place to Serve (sharing your gifts with others):• Sunday School Teacher, become a Youth Leader, Committee

Member, go on Haiti Mission Trip, Music Ministry, help with Annual BBQ, join the Audio Visual Media Team, etc.

Worship + 2 is a formula that will shape your journey with Christ! So we look forward to connecting and serving alongside you at Bethel!
