LUKE'S?Our culture defines the church according to a building or the hour of 11:00 a.m. Sunday morning, but what if you could find a community of people who believed church was a catalyst for change? What if Church was more about working together to make a difference in our community rather than just meeting together for an hour a week?

As a congregation we value Christ-centered love lived out in acceptance, hospitality, community, discipleship and service. We long for everyone to experience the Open Hearts, Open Minds, and Open Doors of God’s Church. If you’re a St. Luke’s member or attend regularly we hope you’ll “Simply Invite” your friends to join you for worship and experience who we are as a Church for themselves. If you don’t have a place to grow spiritually, ask questions about God or connect with others, we hope you’ll come back and join us as well. This Worship Guide will provide you with many opportunities to connect with our diverse ministries. We invite you to get involved!

To assist parents and restless babies during worship, we have a glass-enclosed room in the back of the Sanctuary and the gym lobby area available. We also offer a free nursery in Building A for babies who are at least six weeks old. After worship, please stop by the Service Station in Building C to receive a Welcome Gift and let us answer your questions.

UPCOMING CHILDREN'S PROGRAMSVACATION BIBLE SCHOOL: Celebrate God’s welcoming love for everyone at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church Everywhere Fun Fair (VBS 2013), where God’s world comes together. Our Preschool through 4th grade has reached full capacity, but we have increased the number of campers for our 5th and 6th graders (SubMerge) and are still taking registrations for this age group. VBS 2013 runs from June 17 to June 21, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Everywhere Fun Fair represents the whole spectrum of ages, races, abilities, and stages of development. Change the World Camp July 15 to 19 for Grades 1-8 (as of fall 2013). Campers will participate in hands-on service projects so that they will understand how to be a world changer for God.

Spark the Imagination Camp July 22 to 26 Grades K-6 (as of fall 2013). Campers can choose from a variety of half-day options in music, art, cooking and performance.

Take the Stage Camp July 29 to Aug 2 Grades 1-8 (as of fall 2013). Campers will enjoy acting, singing and dancing on stage while creating a musical theater production with a great message.

Whether you are on the Pathway to Membership or have been a member of St. Luke’s for years, these CORE Classes are designed to expand your understanding of Christianity, Methodism, Bible study and St. Luke's DNA. Learn Classes (all classes in Building C)Beginnings: This is an intro to Christian theology, history and practice. We will discuss subjects including the Trinity, theodicy and sacraments. HABITAT FOR HUMANITY: Help install windows, exterior doors and work on siding this Saturday, May 4. NON-CONSTRUCTION SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES THROUGH HABITAT: You don’t have to be a skilled builder to serve at Habitat. BELFAST MISSION EXPERIENCE: Our Belfast Mission partners are already working in distressed communities. St. Luke’s is forming its next mission team to travel to Belfast. Stop by the Belfast Mission Table (Welcome Hall, Building C) to learn more about the role of the Church in community transformation; how these Belfast groups work with and between communities; and the mission opportunities available.

• Toxic Charity: Starting Thursday, May 9 at 6:30 p.m. in Building C Room 204-206, this five-week class will explain how not to hurt while serving others. The class will center on Bob Lupton’s breakthrough book Toxic Charity: How Churches and Charities Hurt Those They Help and How to Reverse It. Bob has 30+ years of community transformation experience in Atlanta.

• Cost of Poverty Experience (C.O.P.E.): Live a month in the shoes of families between 100%-200% of the poverty level during this two-hour simulation. Sign-up for Sunday, May 19 from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Building C Room 201 or Friday, June 7 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the Attic of Building C.

• Dignity Serves: This interactive study teaches you how to serve by properly engaging the talents of others in a dignified way. Training begins on Friday, June 21 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and continues on Saturday, June 22 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in Building C Room 204-206.

• Meet Jesus on the Road: June 2 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in Building C Room 204-206. Whether you are serving an hour a year or traveling with a mission team, this is for you! The training explores St. Luke's vision for missions, what the Bible says about poverty, asset-based development, and creating a safe environment for understanding diversity and serving with people from different backgrounds.

ARTWORKS EXHIBIT NOW THROUGH MAY 19: This beautiful art exhibit will be in the Welcome Hall for the entire Mission Possible sermon series. ArtWorks, a ministry created out of St. Luke's and led by Renee Schneider, inspires hope in children who are facing the challenges of foster care, abuse, neglect, poverty, and homelessness. Through innovative art programs, ArtWorks strives to build the children's self-esteem, find and nurture their creative talent and encourage future success. As you view the art, please take time to read the stories from the young artists.
