Look back at Wheaton’s biggest storiesBy NATHAN LURZ
As the new year nears, it’stime to revisit what made 2014memorable. From businessopenings to heroin preven-tion, this year’s top storieswill live on long after the balldrops next week.
1. Snowy startWhat happened: Winter
2014 was a rough one – sobad the city had to make anemergency purchase of anadditional 700 tons of salt tothe tune of $142,600 to ensureits street services departmentwouldn’t run out by the endof February.
Quote of note: “We haven’thad a lot of complaints, haven’t had a lot of accidents.I think people, becausethey see on the news thateverybody is in the sameboat, they’ve come to theconclusion that that’s whatwe’re dealing with.” Street
Services Director Mike Wakefield
16 Inches of snowfallduring the first week of
January in Wheaton
2. Business boomingWhat happened: Wheaton
had a busy year in business, including the opening of a pairof hip newcomers – Mile LongRecords in October and DryCity Brew Works in Novem-ber. Both were welcomed asdepartures from the manyrestaurants and home decorstores in the downtown areaand by most accounts havebeen popular additions.
Other downtown additions
in 2014 were: Prairie PathBooks in March, Kilwin’sChocolates & Fudge and Joan’sPlace in April, Moore Toys &Gadgets in May, P.S. Flowersand Interiors in August and Art& Glass Studio in September.
Quote of note: “I wasshocked and so excited ... I’ma Wheaton-born native, andwe have our reputation, soit’s nice to see some variety.”Wheaton resident Melissa Guido on

3leadership after formersuperintendent Brian Harrisleft for Barrington Commu-nity Unit School District 220in May.
By the end of July, thedistrict announced Harris’sreplacement would be JeffSchuler, then superintendentof Kaneland Community UnitSchool District 302.
Schuler has since set ag-gressive goals for the District200 Board of Education inthe face of an ever-tighteningbudget, after the Engage 200public input process.
Quote of note: “You clearlyhave your compass pointedin the right direction ... I’mlooking forward to seeingwhere you take us.” District

4. Liquor changesWhat happened: One of the
biggest ongoing projects ofthe Wheaton City Councilover the last year-plus hasbeen modernizing the city’sliquor code.
Convenience stores cannow sell alcohol from 7 a.m.to 10 p.m., so long as thestore is at least 2,000 squarefeet and devotes 2 percent orless or its square footage toalcohol sales.
That change led to aheated debate on an issuanceto the 7-Eleven at 326 W.Liberty Drive. In August, the city amended its code,so restriction of the city’s100-foot prohibition forbusinesses near a schoolor church would not applyif alcohol sales weren’t theprincipal profit source.
Community membersargued the issuance wouldbe dangerous, but the council
passed the license 5-2.The city also created
two new liquor licenses –one to allow for Dry CityBrew Works and anotherfor mail-order and onlineliquor sales at the requestof Carol Stream businesstodays-wine.com, which washoping to relocate to Whea-ton.
Quote of note: “There’s alot of businesses in Wheaton,a lot of them that sell alcohol... They’re no different. They’re a business trying tofulfill a need that they havebeen requested to do.”
7-Eleven regional manager of
government affairs Charlene
Brandt said
124 The number ofreported phone calls
to the police the contentious7-Eleven received over the lastthree years.
5. Narcan saves livesWhat happened: In 2013,
DuPage County was ravagedby a record 48 heroin over-dose deaths.
Though much of the coun-
ty government’s collectivereaction was geared towardlong-term education, oneundertaking has alreadypaid major dividends – theNarcan program.
Narcan, a drug adminis-tered nasally that reversesthe effects of an opiateoverdose, has been in the
field since spring and hasreportedly already savedmore than 30 lives. A founda-tion has been established tocontinue supplying the drugto law enforcement and othercommunity members forseveral years.
Quote of note: “If youdo CPR, maybe they start
breathing, but in this case, someone is overdosing ona narcotic and you can dosomething to bring them outof it. You feel a little moreempowered.” Hanover Park
Police Officer Tim McNolte
32 Number of lives re-ported saved by Nar-
can in 2014, according to thecounty health department.
6. Controversial developmentsWhat happened: Several
big stories about housing inWheaton occurred in the lastyear, most notably a trio ofdevelopments that residents– and sometimes the citycouncil – really didn’t wantto happen.
After a failed effort lastyear, developer M/I Homesagain asked the council forapproval for the annexationand development of the 18-lotWoodlawn Place subdivisionat the rear of 0N536 GaryAve. Residents had concernsabout traffic safety.
A few weeks ago, thecouncil approved a simi-larly-controversial annex-ation and building plan onMorse Street and Amy Lanenear Wheaton North, afterdeciding the developers hadproperly addressed stormwa-ter problems and a possibleupswing in traffic.
Additionally, the councilapproved a plan for ninenew residences at 102, 106and 108 E. Farnham Lane inJune, despite public outcryand several previous votesagainst it.
The yes vote didn’t stemfrom confidence in the plan.Instead, City Attorney JamesKnippen and municipal stafftold the council their handswere tied because, unlikeprevious attempts, the pro-posal did not go against cityzoning ordinances.

Being a retailer is an amazing thing this time of year. One of the things that amazes me the most is how few people say“Merry Christmas” when they leave or enter our store. It’s always “Happy Holidays”, which is not a bad thing in and of itself, but here is our take.
“Christmas” What is it? The celebration of the birth of “The Christ”. Jesus was born so that man may live.
Who celebrates it? About 90% of Americans in some form.
When do they celebrate it - all agree December 25th.
How do we celebrate it? Many ways, not the least of which is exchanging gifts to the tune of about 200 billion dollars.
So what’s my point? Should we call Columbus day, “founders day”, should we call Martin Luther King day, “civil rights day”, that would be a dis-grace to both of these great men. Yet, the greatest man of all, God in the flesh, has had His name largely pulled from mainstream America on theday we honor him. This in and of itself is travesty enough. But what is really worse is the rest of the holiday has not changed. Millions are willingto ‘cash in on it’, but millions (most meaning no harm) have pulled His name from the occasion andreplaced it with “winter” and “happy”.
Not at Costello’s. MERRY CHRISTMAS! And to our Jewish friends, Happy Hanukkah.
Lastly, to every soldier who is serving right now to give me the freedom to worship God,run my business in a free enterprise zone, and raise my family in freedom…THANK YOU, MERRY CHRISTMAS AND GOD KEEP YOU!

Five file for District 200 boardBy NATHAN LURZ
WHEATON – Five candi-dates filed to run for the Com-munity Unit School District200 Board of Education duringthe past week.
Incumbents Jim Vromanand Jim Gambaiani will faceoff against Gary Tonn, ChrisCrabtree and Judith Zapf inApril, 2015 for two open seats.
Both Vroman and Gam-baiani said they decided to runagain to continue the progressthey made in the past fouryears.
Gambaiani said issues inthe district’s future includethe Affordable Care Act, possi-ble pension and school fundingreform bills, unfunded statemandates and the district’sdebt service.
“There are many dauntingfinancial challenges that lieahead for District 200,” hesaid. “I believe in my recordof fiscal responsibility bal-anced against providing thebest education possible for
the students.”Vice President Vroman
said his skills as a lawyer havehelped him guide the board tofind middle ground and con-sider multiple perspectives, and that he has enthusiasm forthe job and the district.
He stressed continuationof what the district learnedthrough its Engage 200 com-munity engagement process asvital for the coming years.
Crabtree, who is the Whea-ton Warrenville PTA Councilpresident, served on the facili-tating team for Engage 200 andtaught at Whittier Elementaryfor 11 years.
She said a spot on the boardis the next step in her districtleadership, and hopes the dis-
trict will continue buildingthe relationships it forged inEngage 200.
“I have a relationship with-in the entire district, with theparent community, within theschools, with administration,”Crabtree said.
Tonn is a retired engineerand businessman, and a spe-cial education aide at WheatonWarrenville South. He becameinterested in education afterretiring and thought he couldbring his unique professionalbackground as an asset to theboard.
“Some friends say I’m kindof crazy to run for the schoolboard right now – it’s an ex-
tremely challenging time,” hesaid. “There are a lot of im-portant issues out there, and Ithink finances are going to beprobably more important thanever before.”
The failure of the Jeffersonreferendum in 2013 seemed tobe a surprise for the district,he said, and it needs to rebuildtrust with the community.
Zapf could not be reachedfor comment.
Opting not to join the twoincumbents in the race is long-time board member RosemarySwanson, who said the deci-sion not to run was both out ofa desire for a more relaxed andflexible schedule and to keepthe board fresh.
“I am very pleased withour new superintendent, Dr.Schuler; our senior leadershipstaff is excellent and stable;our teachers are caring profes-sionals of the highest quality;and we have a high-function-ing board,” she said. “Thisseemed like the right timeto step back in order for new
leadership to come forward.”

Volunteers Janet and John Fitchuk of West Chicago and others provide music for the residents of the Du-Page Convalescent Center during its annual holiday party Sunday.
DuPage Convalescent Centercelebrates holidays as ‘one big family’
By NATHAN [email protected]
WHEATON – Say what youwill about the power of pres-ents, but for most, the holidaysare all about spending timewith loved ones.
That’s something the Du-Page Convalescent Centertakes seriously, as evidencedby the annual resident andfamily holiday party it hostedSunday.
The event has been a fixturefor decades, said assistant ad-ministrator Shauna Berman, and is the talk of the residentsfor weeks before and after.
“It’s kind of an expandedfamily celebration,” she said.“The residents, their room-mates, their families, the staffand their families too ... theseare the events [where] we allcome together.”
This year, the center hostedeight parties across the build-ing, each with live music and“probably more [food] thananyone should have around,”Berman said.
Each floor had a dedicatedSanta Claus who visited everyresident including those un-able to leave their rooms.
The center also holds ayearly adopt-a-resident pro-
gram alongside the event. Each resident comes up witha list of items they want forChristmas, and the center of-ten starts fielding calls fromgift-givers in September andhas to make a wait-list, Ber-man said.
Both the communal par-ty and gifts are generallymuch-needed by residents,as about 80 percent of the 360are on some form of publicaid, Berman said. Many don’thave families, or have families
too far away to visit. Havinga party before Christmas Dayensures as many residents aspossible will be present to cel-ebrate.
“When we go into the holi-day season, a lot of us still missour real homes,” said four-year resident John McCall.“We have the opportunity notonly to have our families here, but we get to meet the otherfamilies. ... Everyone walksaway with a smile.”
McCall said he and his fam-ily spent a previous holidayparty with his last roommate, whose family lived in anoth-er state. His daughter evenbrought his roommate a gift.
“He wasn’t expecting any-thing,” McCall said. “It was re-ally rewarding for him and forus to see his expression. A lotof our people here do that, theyadopt their roommates.”
Resident Edward “Skip”Meyer said he always tries toreach out to his fellow resi-dents during the holiday party, and credited the festive spiritto the staff and volunteers.
“All of the staff here is ex-ceptional,” he said. “The waythat everybody comes togetherhere during the entire Christ-mas season to help out [is spe-
cial].”

Park District reports balanced budget, first special events reportBy NATHAN LURZ
WHEATON – The WheatonPark District is reporting apositive financial outlook forboth the upcoming year and in2014’s special events.
During the Dec. 10 Boardof Commissioners meeting, the board voted to pass its bal-anced $30 million budget fornext year, as well as an addi-tional $9 million capital bud-get.
“The financial departmentof the Wheaton Park Districtcontinues to be very strong,”said Rita Trainor, finance di-rector for the district.
Trainor said the small in-crease in this year’s $16.9million levy was because ofscheduled debt service. She
chalked up the balance andstability to the district’s long-term planning and budgetingapproach.
“We take a longer focusand our fund balance targetsother than in our zoo fundwe are meeting or exceedingall of those targets,” she said.“Which indicates that we arein fact managing things pru-dently and are in a good finan-cial position.”
The board also received thefirst formal report on the per-formance of its special eventsthroughout 2014.
Margie Wilhelmi, the dis-trict’s director of marketing, said the events were helpedout by a warm summer andseveral popular new events. In total, the district madean estimated $80,546 from
its various special events in2014.
The big earners this yearwere establ ished favor-ites Taste of Wheaton with$33,950.18 and the WheatonBrew Fest, which brought in$19,090.42.
New events Fun Run in Col-or and Light the Torch NightRun finished in the black, eachearning more than $10,000.
The Lions Club ReindeerRun, Wine & Cultural ArtsFestival, Go Fly A Kite eventand the Smooth Jazz Fest allcame in even or profitable.
Three events – Fourth ofJuly activities, Music Mon-days and Shakespeare in thePark – actually lost the districtmoney. The worst offenderwas the weekly music show-case, which came in with a
$2,493 net loss.“Events like the Taste of
Wheaton, the Brew Fest andthe Fun Run in Color – thosetypes of events are set out tomake a profit,” Wilhelmi said.“That said, [with] some eventslike Music Mondays andShakespeare in the Park we’rehoping that it’s going to be sus-tainable and cover expenses... but those are events we like

As my year serving as president of the Wheaton Chamberof Commerce comes to an end and I transition to the pasture ofpast presidents, I do so with fond memories of 2014.
The chamber started 2014 with a fresh strategic plan devel-oped at a board retreat at IIT late in 2013. The plan included anobjective to develop stronger, more strategic relationshipswith our community partners.
The ball started rollingwith a round of early morning“egg’lectic” breakfast meetingswhere we refined the objec-tive, built a relationship matrix and established a board memberlead for each relationship. Then we started to make the calls.
Initially, there was healthy nervousness, a little “fear of theunknown.” Do you remember the high school kid (or were youthat kid?) who was afraid to ask his dream girl out for a date, only to find out years later that she would have said yes? Well,we’re discovering that our strategic partners are saying yes.We just need to make the call.
The receptiveness of Wheaton leaders to forge strategic rela-tionships – whether from city government, the school system, community organizations or businesses – is strong and is anasset not every city can claim. Example: I had the pleasure ofleading what turned out to be a wonderful experience called“Reflections Framed – A Celebration of Military Service, Pastand Present” – a Veterans Day fundraiser for the Midwest Shel-ter for Homeless Veterans. My first step was to call communityleaders to seek their support. I was a little nervous – I was “thatkid.” Fortunately, and not surprisingly, everyone said yes.
As the project moved along, various folks, including ourfriends in the press, asked, “Is the chamber leading this? Is thePark District leading this? Who’s leading this?”
I enjoyed replying, “We all are!”Leaders such as Mayor Mike Gresk, Paula Barrington
(DWA), Kerry O’Brien (WCC), Betsy Adamowski (WPL), PamKostecki (MSHV), Paul Herbert (First Division Museum atCantigny) and many others rallied effortlessly around thiscommunity cause and win.
So are we done? No. There are relationships to discover, relationships to strengthen, phone calls to make. But the cham-ber’s intention is to “go deeper in 2015” under the leadership of2015 board president Dale Showalter, executive director KerryO’Brien and a motivated Board of Directors.
So when the phone rings, please say yes.Happy holidays, everyone.

SOUND OFF
Thumbs up to theGlen Oak RestaurantI Recently attended aluncheon with family atthe Glen Oak Restaurant indowntown Glen Ellyn. Thanksto the recommendation of awonderful waitress, we weretreated to the best cream ofmushroom soup ever. Make ita point to visit the Glen Oak onany Wednesday to enjoy thisdelicious repast. Thank youGlen Oak for providing a specialdelectable treat to our holidayluncheon celebration.
Sound Off reflectsopinions, not factsI’d like to remind readers of
the Sound Off column that, asthe guidelines clearly statethe comments “should not betaken as fact.” Several recentcomments about the Glen EllynPark District, which all appearto be from the same person, are misleading at best and, insome cases, simply not true. For the record, a routine exitpoll survey is being conduct-ed, based on support from amajority of the board, and willcost about 10 cents per resi-dent; it is not a “pool survey.”The proposed turf at NewtonPark represents the best pricenegotiated by a purchasingcooperative commonly usedby public agencies, and is farfrom “the most expensive turfoption.” It has yet to be decidedwhich features will be included.I would encourage all readersto contact the Park District, orvisit their website, for accurateinformation.
Media needs to stopsensationalizingI certainly agree with last
week’s article “Officer wasdoing his job.” The media needsto stop building this up andantagonizing people. They aresomewhat responsible for all theprotests. The officer was doinghis job.
Time to act in D-200A recent CUSD 200 report
states we have the second-lowest property taxes collectedper student, second-lowest tax
rate, a below average operationexpense per pupil, and belowthe state average in per pupilspending. Congratulations BOE –right? No, these austere numbersmean we can’t compete withsurrounding districts to keepand maintain great teachers andprovide current technology andservices for our children. Thelast ED referendum was 30 yearsago. Time to act.
Freedom of speechmust be upheldI’m going to start my own
protest right here, and it’sagainst people in the westernsuburbs making ignorantcomments about the rights ofother people. Can you imaginewhat kind of riots there wouldif people could not passjudgment on people from otherethnic and social economicbackgrounds? It would makeFerguson look like Disneyland.
Lombard leaf sweepis a good ideaBatavia has a leaf pick up
program that I wish Lombardwould copy. Residents rake upleaves, sweep them to the curband a truck comes and cleansthem up – no stickers and nobags.

FREDDIE MAC
MCLEAN, VA--(Marketwired - Dec 23,2014) - Freddie Mac (OTCQB: FMCC) to-day released its newly updated Multi-In-dicator Market Index® (MiMi®) showingthe U.S. housing market continuing tostabilize as 70 of the markets trackedare now showing positive momentum, including two additional metro areasreaching their benchmark stable ranges,San Jose and Pittsburgh.
News Facts:The national MiMi value stands at
74.5, indicating a weak housing marketoverall but showing a slight improvement(+0.12%) from September to October anda positive 3-month trend of (+0.42%).On a year-over-year basis, the U.S.housing market has improved (+4.48%).The nation’s all-time MiMi high of 122.5was June 2006; its low was 60.3 in Sep-tember 2011, when the housing marketwas at its weakest. Since that time, thehousing market has made a 23.5 percentrebound.Thirteen of the 50 states plus the
District of Columbia have MiMi values ina stable range, with North Dakota (95.9)the District of Columbia (94.1), Montana(91.2), Wyoming (91.0), and Hawaii (89.2)ranking in the top five.Eight of the 50 metro areas have MiMi
values in a stable range, with San Antonio(89.9), Austin (87.0), Houston (85.3), LosAngeles (84.4) and Salt Lake City (83.1),ranking in the top five. The most improving states month-
over-month were Colorado (+1.46%),
Kentucky (+1.36%), Idaho (+1.09%),Maryland (+1.01%) and North Carolina(+1.00%) On a year-over-year basis, themost improving states were Nevada(+18.95%), Illinois (+10.55%), Florida(+9.42%), Rhode Island (9.19%) andColorado (+9.00%).The most improving metro areas
month-over-month were Kansas City(+3.44), Memphis (+3.41%), Atlanta(+3.14%), Charlotte (+2.87%) and Denver(2.81%). On a year-over-year basis themost improving metro areas were LasVegas (+23.84%), Chicago (+13.38%),Miami, (+12.50%), Denver (+12.10%) andRiverside (+12.08%).In October, 29 of the 50 states and
41 of the 50 metros were showing animproving three month trend. The sametime last year, 39 states plus the Districtof Columbia, and 43 of the top 50 metroareas were showing an improving threemonth trend.
Quote attributable to
Freddie Mac Chief Economist
Frank Nothaft:“When we look at the stability of thehousing market we’ve seen a modest 0.5percent improvement since the beginningof the year in the national index. Housingmarkets continue to heal across thecountry with those hardest hit showingthe biggest improvement. Low mortgagerates have helped, but we also needbetter household income growth. Theemployment picture needs to improvemore to strengthen wage growth. The
good news is we’re slowly starting tosee this happen in areas like Denver,San Jose, Nashville and Pittsburgh toname a few, where we’re also seeingbetter purchase application activity on amonthly basis.”
MiMi monitors and measures thestability of the nation’s housing market,as well as the housing markets of all 50states, the District of Columbia, and thetop 50 metro markets. MiMi combinesproprietary Freddie Mac data with cur-rent local market data to assess whereeach single-family housing market is rela-tive to its own long-term stable range bylooking at home purchase applications,payment-to-income ratios (changes inhome purchasing power based on houseprices, mortgage rates and householdincome), proportion of on-time mortgagepayments in each market, and the localemployment picture. The four indicatorsare combined to create a compositeMiMi value for each market. Monthly,MiMi uses this data to show, at a glance, where each market stands relative toits own stable range of housing activity.MiMi also indicates how each market istrending, whether it is moving closer to,or further away from, its stable range. Amarket can fall outside its stable rangeby being too weak to generate enoughdemand for a well-balanced housing mar-ket or by overheating to an unsustainablelevel of activity.
For more detail on MiMi see theFAQs. MiMi is released at 10 a.m. EDTmonthly. The most current version can befound at FreddieMac.com/mimi.

By MATT LE [email protected]
NAPERVILLE – With onlyone returning starter, Whea-ton Warrenville South’s girlsbasketball team figured tostruggle early this season.
The Tigers did just that, starting 0-7. All but two ofthose losses were close, includ-ing two in overtime, giving theteam hope for a turnaround.
That turnaround has ar-rived. South won four of fivegames before Saturday’s 42-31loss against Providence in itsfinal game at the Benet-Naper-ville North Tournament.
“I’m very pleased,” Southhead coach Rob Kroehnkesaid. “We took steps, especial-ly defensively. We’re startingto understand positioning. We’re starting to understandthe effort that it takes to playgreat defense.”
The Tigers (4-9), who ad-vanced to the championshipbracket at Benet and finishedthe tourney with a 3-2 record, including a 52-38 upset of Na-perville North (8-5) on Friday, played great defense againstfavored Providence (9-4) andheld a 23-20 halftime lead. Butthey mustered only four bas-kets in the second half andlost despite giving up just fivepoints in the fourth quarter.
“Unfortunately the secondhalf we got caught where wecouldn’t score,” Kroehnkesaid. “It was little things hereand there, and unfortunatelyyou can’t help the other teamout when you shoot bad andturn it over. We’ve got to cleanthat up, but we’ve definitelymade big improvements sincethe beginning of the year andwe’ll continue to make them.”
Senior forward OliviaLinebarger, who recentlycommitted to NYU, led theTigers with 15 points, 10 re-bounds and five assists. ErinMadigan added 10 points, butthe rest of the team combinedfor just six points.
“I think [the tournamentshowing] is obviously a posi-tive because this is where we
actually got our first win,”
Linebarger said. “It’s been a
growing process with a lot of
growing pains. This tourna-
ment shows us that we can
compete, so I think when it’s
all said and done we can real-
ly pull it together.”
Linebarger, the only Tiger
with previous starting experi-
ence, will be key to that prog-
ress.
“She’s got the experi-
ence,” Kroehnke said. “She
knows what these games are
about and she’s got to sort of
be the captain of the ship.”
The Tigers will now head to
the State Farm Holiday Classic
in Bloomington which begins
on Dec. 26 and ends on Dec. 30.
The squad opens up with Peo-
ria Richwoods and the winner
advances to play either North
Lawndale or Bloomington.
Last week, WWS also de-
feated Lake Park 54-36 on Dec.
16 as Linebarger poured in 16
points.
Wheaton NorthOnce again hosting the
Bill Neibch Classic, the Fal-
cons began the 16-team event
with a 76-62 loss to St. Charles
East on Monday. Emmy Gry-
na scored 17 points and Emari
Jones added 16. Wheaton
North will wrap up the tour-
ney Friday and Saturday.
St. FrancisThe Spartans return to the
Lisle Holiday Classic which be-
gins Friday and ends Dec. 30.
St. Francis opens with a first
round matchup at 6:30 p.m.
against Chicago Christian and
with a victory, would play ei-
ther Newark or Westmont in
the second round Saturday.
The Spartans are off to a 5-4
start this winter.

Why Brambora was selected:
Glenbard SouthSenior | Girls basketball
JENNA
BRAMBORA
Brambora led all scorers with 16 points in the Raiders57-45 win against conference rival Riverside-Brookfield.
SuburbanLife
Glenbard South guard Jen-na Brambora is a major partof an experienced Raiders coreas the senior is in her fourthseason on the varsity. On Dec.18, she played a key role in theteam staying undefeated inthe Metro Suburban Con-ference, scoring 11 of her 16points in the fourth quarter ina 57-45 victory against River-side-Brookfield. Brambora, the Wheaton Bank & TrustAthlete of the Week, spokewith Wheaton Suburban Lifesports reporter Scott Schmidabout the win and GlenbardSouth’s fast start to the season.
Schmid: Knowing thatwinning conference is always agoal, how big was that win overR-B?
Brambora: It was definitelya really big win. R-B alwaysgives us good competition andwe’ve had a rivalry for thepast couple years. That was abig game for us.
Schmid: What have been thekeys to the team’s fast start (9-1over the first 10 games)?
Brambora: I think we aredoing a really good job of play-ing as a team. We are sharingthe basketball and giving ev-eryone opportunities to scoreand really cracking down ondefense. We are a team witha lot of speed and hustle andheart.
Schmid: How much of anadvantage is it to have so muchexperience on your team?
Brambora: It’s really import-ant. It gives us an edge. We allknow what we are doing andwe don’t crack as easily underpressure. And if we get down,we are resilient and able tocome back. We know how im-portant the little things are.
Schmid: In what ways haveyou changed from being a fresh-man on the varsity to now?
Brambora: I think I’vebecome more confident andmore of a leader on the court.I really looked up to all of theolder girls on the team andnow it’s my responsibility tobe a leader for the youngerkids.
