Este año cumplimos 18. Son ya 18 años fieles a nuestro compromiso inicial con el cine de calidad en la pantalla grande.
Creado en el 2002 por el Instituto Cervantes de Manila, PELíCULA se celebra cada octubre en colaboración con la Embajada de España en Filipinas. El Festival ha crecido a lo largo de los años hasta erigirse en el más importante escaparate de cine español en el Sudeste asiático.
En esta 18ª edición, PELíCULA te invita a disfrutar de una selección de obras de calidad, muchas de ellas premiadas en festivales de prestigio internacional. No se trata únicamente de una cita con el cine español, pues el Festival también propone una mirada al cine latinoamericano y a las voces surgidas de un continente que se expresa mayoritariamente en español. Comedia, drama, suspense, animación, documental… son algunos de los géneros que encontrarás en la programación del Festival.

PELíCULA is a Spanish film festival held every October by the Instituto Cervantes de Manila, in collaboration with the Embassy of Spain to the Philippines. Created in 2002, this event shows award-winning Spanish and Latin American films.
The Film Festival has grown through the years to become the most important exhibition of Spanish Cinema in the Southeast Asian region. As young as ever, PELíCULA starts its 18th edition with a collection of good quality movies, many of which have been awarded in prestigious festivals. It’s not just about Spanish cinema, as the Festival also shows a look at Latin American cinema. Comedy, drama, thriller, animation, documentary, are some of the many elements inside the Festival’s program.

Homenaje al cine filipino A Tribute to Filipino CinemaEl vocablo filipino “pelikula”, derivado del castellano “película”, refleja los lazos culturales entre España y Filipinas. Con esa idea en mente, el Festival, desde sus primeras ediciones, ha tenido entre sus objetivos el ofrecer programas conjuntos hispano-filipinos. Este año, declarado por decreto presidencial “Año del Centenario del cine filipino”, PELíCULA no quería dejar pasar la oportunidad de rendir homenaje a la rica historia de la industria cinematográfica filipina.
El 12 de octubre, a las 2 de la tarde, el historiador Nick Deocampo dará una charla sobre los orígenes del cine en Filipinas. El mismo día, a las 4:30, se proyectará Habambuhay (2019), presentado por su director Clodualdo del Mundo Jr. Habambuhay es un documental que rememora las vidas y los esfuerzos de los profesionales que han forjado la industria cinematográfica filipina. Presenta imágenes de archivo y fotos, además de entrevistas en exclusiva a leyendas de la pantalla como Anita Linda, Eddie Mesa, Rosemarie Gil y Eddie García, en la última entrevista en profundidad del actor antes de su fallecimiento.
The Filipino word “pelikula”, derived from the Spanish word “película”, echoes the cultural ties shared by the Philippines and Spain. In line with this, since its first editions the Festival has aimed to offer joint Filipino-Spanish programs. This year, declared the Centennial Year of the Filipino Cinema by a Presidential Proclamation, PELíCULA did not want to let the opportunity pass to pay tribute to the rich history of Philippine film industry.
On October 12, at 2pm, film historian Nick Deocampo will deliver a talk on the origins of cinema in the Philippines. The same day, at 4:30pm, PELÍCULA, in collaboration with TBA Studios, will screen Habambuhay (2019), presented by its director Clodualdo del Mundo Jr. Habambuhay is a documentary that commemorates the lives and efforts of the people behind and in front of the camera who shaped the Philippine Movie Industry. It features archival footage, clips and photos, as well as exclusive interviews with screen legends like Anita Linda, Eddie Mesa, Rosemarie Gil, and Eddie Garcia, in the actor’s last in-depth interview before his passing.

Raquel is a woman in despair. Her personal situation led her to need 35,000 EUR (commonly known as “70 big ones”) in 24 hours. Her last hope is a bank loan. Siente entonces que está ante la ocasión de convertir su sueño en realidad y le manda una carta a la cárcel donde cumple condena. Contra todo pronóstico, Elías recibe respuesta tres semanas después. Robin Hood acepta que vaya a la cárcel a visitarle.
Elías is a filmmaker who has always dreamed of making a heist film. Summer of 2013, he reads a news about the capture of “the Robin Hood of Vallecas”, the leader of “the sewer gang”. He feels that he has found his chance of realizing his dream. He writes a letter to the Robin Hood in prison. Against all odds, Elías receives an answer three weeks later. The Robin Hood accepts to meet him.

Salvador Dali and Luis Buñuel are the principal figures of the surrealist movement, but Buñuel sees how all doors seem to have closed after the scandalous premiere of The Golden Age, his first film. However, his sculptor friend, Ramon Acin, buys a lottery ticket with a promise that, should he win, he will pay the documentary that his friend would like to film about Las Hurdes, one of the poorest and forgotten regions of Spain… Depicts the filming in the Extremadura región of Las Hurdes by the master Luis Buñuel, of the 1933 film “Land Without Bread”.

In the middle of a couple crisis, and with heavy debts, makes a promise he cannot keep: if his 9 years old son Nico ends the school year with an A+ grade in all school subjects, he will take him to an unforgettable summer holidays. The boy gets all A+ grades so father and son disembark on a journey that will make them meet people and live situations they have never imagined.

Manuel is, also, a corrupt man who has enriched himself with public funds through the years. News about a friend and fellow member of his political Party accused of corruption came out. El problema de las desigualdades sociales y las diferentes culturas serán una traba para la chica, que comenzará a darse cuenta de cómo funciona el mundo.
A family spends the holidays in Senegal. The teenage daughter struggles to know people of her age and make friends. She finally meets a hotel staff who aspires to become a filmmaker while filming the excursions of the guests. The problem of social inequality and different cultures became an obstacle to the girl, who slowly realizes how things work.

The first same-sex marriage in Spain to take place after the Roman Imperial era occurred on 8 June 1901. Two women, Marcela Gracia Ibeas and Elisa Sanchez Loriga, attempted to get married in A Coruña (Galicia, Spain). Created in 1966 by Fernando Zóbel de Ayala, this important museum has a permanent exhibit containing hundreds of paintings and sculptures by leading Spanish figures in the world of abstract art. ¿QUÉ ESEL DELE?WHAT’S DELE?The Diplomas de Español como Lengua Extranjera (DELE/ Diplomas of Spanish as Foreign Language) are official qualifications granted by the Instituto Cervantes on behalf of the Spanish Ministry of Education to certify level of competence in the Spanish language.
These diplomas with permanent validity measure the level of proficiency achieved by candidates regardless of where and when they have carried out their studies of Spanish.
Examinations for the DELE will take place on the following dates:
November 22, 2019 (Young learners for A1 y A2/B1) and November 23, 2019 (General exam for A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 y C2).
