Y6 Learning pack – Week 3 (27/04/2020) Summer term Hello Y6! We hope that you are well and we are loving seeing so many of your faces on Twitter having a go at the challenges and other activities. We are really missing seeing you all at school every day, but we’re glad that everyone is following the rules to keep ourselves and each other safe. We have created another pack of work to keep you busy, so have a go at whatever you can. This is YOUR pack, so it can ultimately be used however you choose. We suggest that you try and do a couple of tasks per day, but do whatever works best for you and your family. There are also daily maths challenges and creative tasks on the Twitter page. We know that this is a strange time for everyone and it might seem weird with your living room now being your classroom too, but we think it is really important for you to keep your brains ticking! These tasks are for YOU, and are all things that you can do without an adult, however that doesn’t mean they can’t help, it just means that you may need to do it on your own sometimes so that they can get on with other things – remember, this is all new to them too! If there is something that you need a bit of help with, you can ask us over twitter and we will do what we can to help. We hope you enjoy doing all of the activities and we would love to see the work that you produce. All of the teachers have access to our Twitter and will check it regularly, so please tweet us with videos and photos of the brilliant stuff you get up to! @Y6Carfield. Everyday on Twitter there is also a Beat the Teacher Challenge which should hopefully bring a smile to your face and we would love for you to get involved. It will not surprise you to know that the teachers are already competing for whose class will tweet the best work! Thanks for doing your bit to keep everyone safe. We are missing you lots, so keep in touch with us over Twitter. Thinking of you all, Miss Fordham, Mr Crossley, and Mrs Costa

Reading task 2 – Building Inference

Bin Day

It’s bin day, and one family’s bin is overflowing! Below are some of the things that you can

see in their bin. We would like you to write a few paragraphs explaining what you think

they’ve been up to that week, but most importantly, WHY you think that. This is using your

inference/detective skills. We would love for you tweet us what you think; it would be great

to see if we all think the same!

Deflated helium balloon (can’t quite tell what shape it was)

An empty boxes of matches

An empty egg box

A long cardboard tube

LOTS of chocolate wrappers

Some paper plates with little tractors printed on them

Some crumpled paper which looks like it has little pictures/patterns on it

Writing task 1 – Travel Brochure

For this task, we are asking you to create a Travel Brochure for your favourite place in the

world. That could be somewhere that is special to you, somewhere you have been on

holiday, somewhere you’ve always wanted to know more about (now is your chance to

learn more!) or if you can’t think of anywhere…create a travel brochure for Sheffield.

You can present this however you choose, whether that be getting your creative juices

flowing and using your art skills to create a booklet, on the computer on

Word/PowerPoint, etc or in another creative way. You could even use Google Earth and

‘drop’ yourself somewhere in that place to explore further! For example: exploring Times

Square in New York or the Sydney Harbour bridge in Australia.

We would like you to use emotive language, persuasive language, commas for lists and

varied openers.

We challenge you to go one step further and record yourself describing the ideal place you

have chosen and Tweeting it to us. We would love to see them all!

Writing task 2 – SPAG – Synonyms and Antonyms

Complete the table below. Remember synonyms are words that mean the same, and

antonyms are the opposite. You can put more than one word in each box.

When you’ve completed the table, can you think of 10 more on your own?

1. What is the title of the article?

2. Who is the article about?

3. Who is the reporter?

4. Where have there been outbreaks?

5. What are the Forestry Commission doing?

6. Where has the events happened?

7. What is the article about?

8. When did it happen?

9. Who has been quoted?

10. Why are the caterpillars dangerous?

11. What newspaper is the article from?

12. What do you think the next article will be?

Writing task 3 – Acrostic Poem

Write an acrostic poem about anything you like. Examples of acrostic poems are below. The

rules of an acrostic poem is that every line starts with the letter of the word or topic you

are writing about, each line can be as long or short as you wish and that it doesn’t need to

rhyme. Some suggestions could be:

World War Two

Carfield Primary School

Sheffield

Summer

You could make yours stand out by decorating it or doing it in fancy writing that we know a

lot of you are amazing at and obviously they will be added to Year 6 Twitter if they look

beautiful!

Earth Day

Earth Day was on Wednesday 22nd April. Show how much the Earth

means to you by recreating it in your own unique way. That might be

as a model, as a painting, a collage, or out of cardboard. Here are some

examples, be as creative as you can and tweet your results to us!

If you do not use Twitter, remember you can now email us on

[email protected] to share work if you would like to or

ask any questions you may have.

Thank you
