YEAR 2
A year ago, ABC360 Philippines Ltd. Co. offered
their commitment to help the environment through a
tree planting activity held June 2016. A total of 150 pine
tree seedlings were magnificently planted on the site
located at Forest Reserve, Forbes Park, South Drive,
Baguio City. What the company started is not just a one-
time activity; it is a commitment and an oath made for
our beloved Baguio. And so, this year the unstoppable
ABC360 Eco-Warriors continues to play an active role
with sustained efforts in the fight against global warming
and preservation of the environment.
This year’s tree planting with the theme: 150+ Pine
Trees for our Beloved Baguio is in partnership with the
City Environment and Parks Management Office
(CEPMO) and sponsored by METROBANK BAGUIO-
NAGUILIAN Branch.
Last Tuesday, a network of 20 volunteers from
ABC360 arrived earlier than the call time, 6:30 a.m. They
were very thrilled with the event. There were returning
volunteers, too just like Miss Cristine Dacaymat other-
wise known as Pillow. According to her, she wanted to
join again to check if the seedlings she planted a year ago
survived.
At around 7:30 a.m., The team arrived at the site
greeted by tall blades of grasses. All 20 volunteers along-
with the 8 representatives from CEPMO immediately
started the first part of the activity, ‘Oplan Hawan’ to
clear the wild grass and plants in the area After the ha-
wan the beautiful sight of the flourishing pine trees from
last year’s tree planting became visible and gave pride to
those who planted them.

After a brief rest and
snacks the team was gath-
ered by Sir Danilo “Danny”
Canipas. the OIC Farm
Supervisor from CEPMO.
Sir Danny demonstrated
the proper way of tree
planting in two easy steps:
First compress the soil in
the grow bag then slowly
pull the seedling from the
bag, be careful not to
damage the roots.
Finally place the seedling
into the hole and cover
with soil.
He also pointed out
that the tree planting sites
in Baguio City are limited
and maintaining the site is
important to elevate the
survival rate of the planted
seedlings so that efforts and
resources will not go to
waste.
Moreover, Sir Danny
shared the countless benefits
of these activities and ex-
pressed how important and
helpful it is for the improve-
ment of the environment.
“Maganda nga ito na
activity kasi nakikita ko
talaga sa ABC360 di tulad
sa iba na pag magti-tree
planting sagot pa ng local
government yung expens-
es. Nakikita ko talaga.”
“Survival rate is 80%, natural naman na may casualties hindi yan maiiwasan kaya nga im-portante ang mainte-nance.”
Oplan Hawan
Everyone was excited to
get their hands dirty and the
team eventually planted another
150 pine seedlings.
According to Mr. Cani-
pas, the tree planting activity of
ABC360 is is a big help in assist-
ing not only CEPMO but also
the Department of Environment
and Natural Resources (DENR)
in their target — planting mil-
lions of trees every year.
He even praised ABC360
for their efforts in reaching out
and helping the community by
planting trees. Trees as we all
know are essential to the
ecosystem.

To further rev up the
volunteers before the next set of
clearing, a cheer entitled
‘ABC360 Eco-Warriors’ was led
by one of the participating
volunteers.

“We are not simply tree plant-
ers, or clearers , we are ECO-
WARRIORS!”
While resting under the
shades of the trees, Miss Neri G.
Villanueva, the organizer spoke to
the volunteers and introduced a
simple activity. She asked every-
one to write a message to the
Universe in a piece of paper and
dig it beside the tree of their
choice.
“This is a great opportunity to
connect with nature as well as
manifest our personal inten-
tions” she adds.
Finally, the team went on
taking more pictures with the
trees they have planted. And with
smiles on their faces, they
promise to continue preserving
and protecting the environment
as ABC360 ECO-WARRIORS.
Sir Danny also
mentioned that institutions
and schools who conduct tree
planting activities should be
recognized for their help and
support for the environment
and the whole Baguio
community.
