Format of Evening

Ofsted• Teachers mark students’ work regularly. They use highly

effective questions to assess students’ understanding and to encourage them to think deeply about their learning.

• The quality of teaching is good overall and there is some that is outstanding including in mathematics, English, science, geography, physical education, textiles and citizenship

• Teachers have good subject knowledge and plan lessons which motivate students to learn

Ofsted• Leaders have ensured that students make consistent and

strong progress over time as a result of effective teaching. • The headteacher provides outstanding leadership • The headteacher, leadership team and other senior

leaders set very high expectations for the school. They have established an ethos that encourages and supports good behaviour, attitudes and learning

Ofsted• There is a keen focus on academic achievement which is

supported by a broad range of extra-curricular activities

• Parents are overwhelmingly supportive of the school leadership

• The governing body is led well and provides good support and challenge to school leaders, particularly in working with the headteacher on his many plans for the further rapid improvement of the school

Q: What are the start and finish times of the school day and term dates for 2015/16?

• Starts at 8.30am – Tutor time.• Period 1 – 8.45am• End of the school day – 3pm• The first day for Year 7 this year is TEAM BUILDING

day on WEDNESDAY 2 September. • Thursday 3 September first day of timetabled lessons.• School website has all of the term dates.


Q: My child would like to be in a tutor group with at least one of their friends. Is this possible?

• Opportunity to give a name of somebody to be in the same tutor group with.

• Smaller schools/lone students.• We will do our best.


Q: How do you organise teaching groups in different subjects?

• Students are ‘set’ for some subjects according to KS2 results and Teacher Assessment.

• Some subjects are taught in tutor groups.• We monitor the progress of the students

regularly and sets can change throughout the year if we feel it to be necessary.

Q: What after-school clubs do you do?

• Sporting activities most evenings/some lunchtimes. • Music/Art/Homework club during lunchtime.• Drama productions.• Bus to RAF Benson Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday

at 4.45pm. Other students will have to make their own arrangements to get home.

Q: Is there any after-school/before school supervision?

• There is no other after school supervision. If students are being picked up after 3pm and they are not attending clubs, we expect students to wait in the canteen.

• There is no before school supervision. If students arrive before 8am, again they are to wait in the canteen.


Q: Music Lessons?

• Begin/Continue to learn a musical instrument.• Information/prices will be on the website Sept

2015.• Variety of instruments.


Q: When does Mr Hunter meet the pupils? Does he have regular meetings with Head Boy/Girl and Prefects?

• Break and lunchtimes, during lessons. 1 hour each day.• More formally, with senior students. • Student Voice - hearing their views on a variety of

subjects including Teaching & Learning.• School Council Reps.• Students making outstanding progress.• Buddying programme.• Trips/Visits – e.g. Italy


Q: How do you deal with Bullying?

• Bullying Policy, available on the website. • Key aim is always to promote the well-being of the

students. • Always tell any adult if they feel they are being bullied

and we will take action to help solve the problem. • Tutors, Learning Mentor, Mrs Walkley, Mrs Bellars or

Prefects & Buddies.• Anti-bullying in PSCHE lessons and assemblies.• Anti-bullying ambassadors in the school.• E-safety presentations to parents.

Q: What happens if your child is finding it hard adjusting?


Q: Mobile Phones – Policy

• Must be turned off in lessons (unless purposefully used).

• Will be confiscated if misused.• E-safety.• Students’ responsibility.


Q: Lockers

• Opportunity to have a locker.• Pay a deposit.• Will be informed by their tutor when they

can ask for one.


Q: Are students allowed to carry their own medication?

• Students are allowed to carry their own medication.• We are not allowed to give medication to students but we

can keep it in Reception - they need to self medicate.• Exception to this would be Epi Pens - key staff (first

aiders) have been given training in order to deliver these if necessary.

• Students requiring them are clearly identified with photo identifications.


Q: What are the catering arrangements?

• School lunches or packed lunch. • Suggest £2.50 - £3 for lunch (FSM catered

for).• Staggered lunchtime.• An example menu will be sent to the students

with the information for the 3 induction days.


TRANSPORT ISSUES/ENQUIRIES


Q: Will students be able to travel on ICC school buses for the Induction days in July and the Team Building day in September?

• Oxfordshire County Council will allow students to travel on the buses on the above days.

• Bucks CC will NOT allow this.


Q: What do I do if my child loses their bus pass?Q: What do I do if my child’s bus pass hasn’t arrived by the first day of term?Q: Can you choose which bus stop your child leaves from? Can they leave from the nearest one from their home?
