IwB Pop-Up Design Lab Invitation! 1

YOU’RE INVITED!

Institute without Boundaries invites you to their POP- UP DESIGN LAB during the In/FUTURE event at Ontario Place!September 15–25, 2016

Student working in an IwB workshop

IWB POP-UP DESIGN LAB

During the In/FUTURE event the IwB will run day-long workshops for students to imagine and create ideas for the future of Toronto’s neighbourhoods. Our aim is to engage young people in conver-sations about city planning, and through a design thinking approach give them a voice in shaping their own future.

At the Institute without Boundaries we believe that by empowering different minds to work together, we can make relevant and powerful solutions for our social problems. The IwB has nearly 15 years of experience involving people from all over the world, countless disciplines, and all ages in collaborating with a design thinking approach to create innovative local solutions to global challenges.

Design thinking has been popularised by a large number of people from around the world and from different disciplines. It offers a mind-set and a set of tools for tackling complex problems, and when brought inside a classroom, design thinking offers young people the opportunity to consider real-world problems, while being engaged in teamwork, critical thinking, research, experimentation, and problem solving.

HOW IT WORKS

As part of the In/FUTURE event at Ontario Place, the IwB is setting up a space, or what we call an “IwB Pop Up Design Lab” for working on and exhibiting the projects done by the students. Classes of students will come in the morning by bus to Ontario Place and work with our facilitators in small teams, learning new design skills and getting the chance to create their own ideas for Toronto’s neighbourhoods.

Our team will work with you to coordinate logistics and planning, and make an event that works best for you and your students!

ABOUT THE INSTITUTE WITHOUT BOUNDARIES

The Institute without Boundaries (IwB) is a Toronto-based academic program and studio that focuses on collaborative design practice with the objectives of social, ecological and economic innovation through design research and strategy.

The Institute has three divisions: academic, research and special projects. The academic division offering includes a postgraduate certificate program called Interdisciplinary Design Strategy, outreach programming for K-12 and executive visioning workshops. Our research division supports special projects that further the IwB’s objectives, and our professional projects division offers consulting services.
