Accommodation:
Upon arrival, students are randomly allocated bedrooms in the Hill Side boarding house. Bedrooms are a combination of single and twins, and all bathrooms are shared between 4 - 6 people. Whilst we are happy to take room requests, we are unable to make 100% guarantees.
Transfers:
Bucksmore offers a free airport transfer service for all students at Tonbridge School arriving and/or departing between 10:00-20:00 at:• London Heathrow (LHR)• London Gatwick (LGW)Students requesting private transfers outside of these destinations and times will be subject to additional charges.
Laundry:
Laundry is free and available on-site. Students must load and empty the laundry machines themselves (with Bucksmore staff guidance), though laundry detergent will be provided by Bucksmore.

Classrooms & Seminar RoomsClasses in Tonbridge take place in the main building of the school, and all classrooms are fitted with first rate facilities, including ‘SMART’ interactive whiteboards.
Cawthorne Lecture TheatreWith a capacity of 150 seats, air conditioning and built-in audio visual equipment, the Cawthorne Theatre is a perfect setting for interactive lectures and presentations. The Cawthorne also hosts the weekly graduation ceremonies, where students are presented with certificates & reports.
Sports FacilitiesTonbridge School boasts a top quality sports complex that is used by as a training base by elite performance teams from all over the world, including the Australian national athletics team. Students have access to the swimming pool, sports hall, athletics track and extensive playing fields.
Boarding HousesThe students stay in Tonbridge School’s ‘Hill Side’ boarding house. Male and female accommodation is separate, and students have their own social area equipped with a games room (including table tennis & a pool table) and indoor cinema.

‘Young Professionals’ receive a variety of teaching styles, including theory lessons, practical sessions and group project work. Two full-day excursions are also provided each week, including one related to a student’s chosen specialism.

Course information:
Classes are taught with a maximum size of 11 students, ensuring students are always engaged and receive ample attention from tutors.
Academic hours consist of the following per week:• 9 hours subject theory (classroom based,in the mornings).• 6 hours subject practicals (workshop
based teaching in the afternoons)• 7 hours group project work (subject based)• 3 hours of skills electives
Practical sessions:
Subjects are most enjoyed when students have the opportunity to get out of their chairs and experience their chosen areas first-hand.
These afternoon periods will allow students to truly understand their selected subjects, whether it be in the laboratory (forensic science), pitching mock-business plans (business) or creating a production (performing arts).

Art & Design will introduce students to a variety of experiences that explore a range of two-dimensional and/or three-dimensional media, processes and techniques.
Through classroom study and practical studio sessions, students are made aware of both traditional and new media. Guided through a range of relevant images, artefacts and resources relating to art, craft and design, from the past and from recent times, including European and non-European examples. This should be integral to the investigating, inspiration and creative processes. The course will build their understanding of different styles, genres and traditions.

OverviewDays out of the school are split into two types: ‘excursions’ and ‘study-in-action days’. Excursions are a relaxed way for students to visit famous landmarks and attractions with the whole group. Study-in-action days have a larger academic element, as students visit destinations within that provide real- life experiences relating to their chosen subject area. ‘Excursions’ can be found below, whilst the next page shows sample study-in-action days.
Destination Excursions
London (Week 2 &4)This popular tour visits sites such as Trafalgar Square, Downing Street, Horse Guards Parade, Buckingham Palace, Houses of Parliament & Westminster Abbey.
Cambridge (Week 3)Founded in 1209, the University of Cambridge is the heart of the city of Cambridge. The city’s skyline is dominated by the university’s college buildings including King’s College Chapel, Cavendish Laboratory, and the Cambridge University Library.
Windsor (Week 1)Students are given the opportunity to visit the home of the British Royal Family at their residence Windsor Castle and explore the historic market town.

Tate Modern • Art & DesignLocated in the former Bankside Power Station, in the Bankside area of the London Borough of Southwark. The Tate Modern is Britain’s national gallery of international modern art.
Royal Courts of Justice • International Relations & LawThe Royal Courts of Justice houses the High Court and Court of Appeal of England and Wales. Students will find out how laws are made and can see cases in action.
West End Les Misérables • Performing ArtsStudents will get an insight into the world of west end performers with a back stage tour of Les Misérables and a chance to see the production.
