YoungThe town of Young is situated in the south west region of southern New South Wales, less than two hours drive from Canberra. Buildings are reminiscent of the early gold mining heritage, and even today you can pan for gold at Blackguard Gully with equipment hired from the Lambing Flat Museum.

The Chinese Tribute Garden is a site of historical significance where you can relax and soak up the history of Young. See the waterfall fashioned from natural stone by a local stonemason, enjoy the preponderance of birdlife, inspect the gifts from the

Chinese community in Sydney and overseas, and appreciate the dense plantings of trees and shrubs along the walk ways. You can enter the garden through the gateway - a donation from Taronga Park Zoo. The garden looks spectacular all year round and picnic facilities, barbecues and toilets are all available on site.Burrangong Creek and the wonderful parklands which surround it are at the heart of the town of Young. This was the original area where gold was discovered so one can wander along the historic walk, absorbing the heritage points along the way.

For more information on Young, please visit www.visityoung.com.au. Alternatively, drop into the Young Visitor Information Centre located in the historic former Young Railway Station.

YOUNG YOUNG YOSee and Do

Young boasts an interesting array of things to see and do for visitors to the region.

NATIONAL CHERRY FESTIVALDuring the first weekend in December the whole district comes alive with the excitement of the National Cherry Festival held over three days of activities. Events occurring during the festival include the Cherry Queen crowning, a street parade, a farmers market, the Celtic Tattoo Spectacular, a cherry pie eating competition, a cherry pip spitting competition, and lots more.

LAMBING FLAT CHINESE FESTIVALThe Lambing Flat Chinese Festival celebrates the rich heritage of Young and the cultural impact the Chinese had on the region as a result of the Gold Rush in 1861. The festival includes Chinese gastronomical delights, the Chinese Lion Dancing, martial arts, a Hilltops Wine Expo, a diverse array of market stalls and a documentary featuring the gold trail. The Festival will take place at Anderson Park on 21 March, 2015. For more information on the Lambing Flat Chinese Festival, please visit www.visityoung.com.au.

LAMBING FLAT FOLK MUSEUMThe Lambing Flat Folk Museum, located at 2 Campbell Street in Young, offers visitors the opportunity to learn

about the history of the region, which harks all the way back to the Gold Rush Period. The museum is open daily between 10am and 4pm, except for Good Friday, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. A nominal entry fee is required.

GLENARA GALLERY IN BOOROWATake a drive to the township of Boorowa to visit the Glenara Gallery. Housed in a beautiful heritage building, the gallery boasts an array of gifts, which includes jewellery, paintings, wood work and old coins. Its open Thursday to Sunday, and public holidays, 9am-5pm.

LOCAL PRODUCEIn and around Young, a number of orchards and wineries produce sumptuous local products that are sold via roadside stalls. The stalls showcase jams, liquors, preserved fruits and cherry wine, as well as chocolate coated prunes and sauces. You can also ‘pick your own cherries’ in the region. Local restaurants, cafes and coffee shops produce delicious fare using locally grown produce and wines.

NURSERIES AND ARTYoung has some wonderful nurseries that feature locally grown trees and shrubs, and there are many creative artisans within the district who sell their wares through a number of local outlets.
