Bob Flexon Visits Newton ...Alan Bogardus

Bob Flexon, CEO Marty Daley, COO

Lance Stanley’s 25 Year Anniversary ...Julie Matson

Lance Stanley (guest of honor) & Rick Wolford

Lance Stanley began his career at NPS on May 18, 1992 as an Electrical Supervisor. He recently celebrated his 25th anniversary. He also has worked as an Electrical Projects Coordinator and he is currently a Mainte-nance Supervisor. Congratulations Lance. It’s a pleasure to work with you.

On Monday, June 12, Bob Flexon, President & CEO of Dynegy, and Marty Daley, Chief Operating Officer, stopped at Newton plant for a visit. Bob’s visit was on the heels of an event the night before; but, he wanted to get some station visits in prior to leaving. It was the first time seeing Bob for some and the first for all meeting Marty.

Bob spent most of the time explaining the challenges in the world of Zero Emission Credits (ZEC). He explained his concerns with the different ISO’s and the support some have for Independent Power Producers (IPS) while the others continue to bail out Nuclear. Questions we raised about the recent news on sales and mergers. Bob was very open and explained there were several opportunities out there that are options including going solo. He explained that there will be much more information moving in the media about mergers and acquisitions of Dynegy and other IPP’s but warned us not to get caught up and keep our heads in the game.

Bob left some time for questions and several were raised. Questions from sales to the problem we face with congestion here and how he would like to get involved in that discussion were all talked about. Marty asked the question about our recent efforts in to consolidating contracts to save fleet monies. He asked if we were seeing positive or negative effects locally. Comments were reserved on the subject and a recommendation was made to have an annual review after the contracts were changed to see if pricing creeps or customer’s relationships start to flounder after a period of time.

Both Bob and Marty took a tour of the scrubber to better understand the construction progress that had been made. He ex-plained there is a lot on the litigation that is taking place with the contractor and he wanted to see it himself. They also spent some time talking to the operators up in the control room and fielded some of the great questions Mark and others asked up there.

Both Bob and Marty commented to the group on our reliability and performance being very good and our housekeeping was brought up to me out the door. They were very pleased with their visit and the way you treated them. Once again, thank you for all your professionalism and hard work.

Sunscreen FAQs Who needs sunscreen? Everyone. Sunscreen can help prevent skin cancer by protecting you from the sun’s harmful ul-traviolet rays. Anyone can get skin cancer, regardless of age, gender or race. It is estimated that one in five Americans will develop skin cancer in their lifetime. What sunscreen should I use? The American Academy of Dermatology recommends everyone use sunscreen that offers the following: Broad-spectrum protection (protects against UVA & UVB rays) Sun Protection Factor (SPF) 30 or higher Water resistance When should I use sunscreen? Every day you will be outside. The sun emits harmful UV rays year-round. Even on cloudy days, up to 80 percent of the sun’s harmful UV rays can penetrate your skin. Snow, sand and water increase the need for sunscreen because they reflect the sun’s rays. How much sunscreen should I use? Use enough to generously coat all skin that will not be covered by clothing. Follow the guidelines of 1 ounce (the amount to fill a shot glass). Apply sunscreen to dry skin 15 minutes before going outdoors Protect your lips – apply lip balm that contains SPF of 30 or higher Reapply approximately every 2 hours, or after swimming or sweating, according to the directions on the bottle. How do I treat a sunburn? Begin treating as soon as possible. Cool baths to reduce the heat Moisturizer to help ease the discomfort caused by dryness Hydrocortisone cream to help ease discomfort Aspirin or ibuprofen to help reduce the swelling, redness and discomfort Drinking extra water helps prevent dehydration Do not treat sunburns with “-caine” products such as benzocaine If your skin blisters, you have a second-degree sunburn. The recommendations are: Allow the blisters to heal untouched. If the blister is over a large area (such as the entire back), or you have chills, a headache or fever – seek medical care.
