Welcome back!I can’t believe it’s been 12 months already since I last welcomed everyone to this fantastic festival!

I love coming to Bolton each August for this event and it’s been great over the years to see the exciting changes taking place within the town. This year the craft stalls will take up residence on the refurbished Newport Street which is looking magnificent so don’t forget to visit them!

As always there’ll be a fantastic market spread right across the town with almost 200 stalls (it was even crowned ‘Best Market’ in 2016 by NABMA – National Association of British Market Authorities) so it’s not to be missed!

The festival is also known for it’s great line up of Celebrity and Regional chefs – this year is no different with Simon Rimmer, Ainsley Harriott and James Martin all coming to the festival as well as some great regional talents - Andrew Nutter, Aiden Byrne, John Whaite to name but a few (oh and I’m here too don’t forget!).

Keep your eyes peeled for some world class street theatre popping up all over the town centre too, and with an all new Festival Bar on Le Mans Crescent, you’ll never be far away from some great live music either!

Inside this guide you’ll find loads of information about what’s on and where, so use it to help you plan your days out at the festival and don’t forget your shopping bags for all those goodies you’re going to want to buy!

The team have got a great line up of family friendly activities too. Don’t miss the all-new Wonderland Marquee, where kids can meet Alice, the Red Queen and the Mad Hatter whilst making crafts, enjoying a musical performance and even having a picnic fit for a Queen! Plus there’s loads of free activities taking place in Bolton Central Library and Museum, the Octagon Theatre and Crompton Place so there’s sure to be something to appeal.

See you soonMichael Caines

There’s also craft activities, storytelling and interactive songs for people of all ages to enjoy, you can even visit the Lost Property Office where amongst the forgotten hats and coats are hidden treasures waiting to be discovered.

If you’ve already had tea with the Cheshire Cat and the Mad Hatter (See pages 8 and 9 for details) then read on for some other great ideas that the whole family will love.

There’s always lots to do at the central library and museum and during the festival there will be even more fun themed activities, so why not join in?

Take in a free early morning film, join in crafts like ‘Pimp up your Pumps’ to create your own trainers (booking required), watch the Peter Rabbit experience with storytelling and food tasting from Mr McGregor's garden, see the fish feeds in the aquarium and have some good old fashioned family fun. Who knows you may even bump into some historic characters from Bolton's past!

Don’t forget there’s also free donkey rides each day, find them outside the Octagon Theatre!

Ancient Egypt is also one of the destinations, complete with River Nile, and visitors can play in the desert or immerse themselves in the land of the Pharaohs uncovering hieroglyphics, building their very own pyramids and even encountering a mummy or two!

Plus we’ll be visited by our ‘feathered friends’ each day on Hotel Street (near to M&S entrance), so drop by to meet some magnificent birds of prey or wise owls!

Please note that Bolton Train Station will be closed over the Bank Holiday weekend (as part of Network Rail’s ongoing programme of work), as a result, the majority of train services will not run in to or out of Bolton until the first service on Monday 28 August, so if you are intending to travel by rail please check your journey on the National Rail Enquiries website first.

Bus replacement services will also be in use, operating from outside of the station on Newport Street from stands A-C. The services which usually run from these stands will operate from the temporary stop nearby on Newport Street. Trains will still run from Bolton to Blackburn and Clitheroe during weekdays.
