CEDARFIELD SUN YOUR SOURCE FOR WHAT’S NEWS IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD Community Events LOOKING FORWARD SEPT 28TH COMMUNITY FALL YARD SALE Beginning at 8am! Be sure to put our balloons and sign out to promote your sale! *All events are subject to weather delays. More details will follow. If you’d like to volunteer for please contact Jessica at: [email protected] Ever notice that some photos just seem to glow, rimmed with a halo of warm light? Well, most of those photos were taken during what’s commonly known as the golden hour. “Hour” is figurative here. The golden hour refers to the period just after sunrise or just before sunset. When the sun is near the horizon, its light has to travel through more atmosphere than at other points in the sky. That atmosphere acts as a giant diffuser, thus reducing and softening the intensity of direct light. This creates a more even light, so the difference in correct exposure between your darks and lights is less, meaning it’s far easier to capture a more evenly exposed photo. When the sun is very low in the sky, its angle is more drastic in relation to the earth, making shadows longer and softer. Having long shadows in your shot helps show all three dimensions of the world when you’re trying to capture them in a two-dimensional space. Also, because your exposure is more even, the sky and whatever else is in the background, your middle ground, and the foreground can all be clearly defined and properly exposed, which creates a greater sense of depth. Get your camera out and try experimenting with this light, especially as summer comes to an end & don’t forget to tag #cedarfieldsun on your insta so we can check it out! https://www.digitaltrends.com/photography/when-is-golden-hour-and-what-is-it/ Cedarfield Sun deadlines for the next issue fall on the 20th of each month. By simply sprinkling powdered dye on ice on top of fabric, create beautiful organic water color effects that are so unique! This idea comes from RIT brand dye.INGREDIENTS: -Wear rubber gloves to protect hands from getting stained. -Wet fabric and completely crumple into a small, flat ball. -Place crumpled fabric on top of drying rack, over the plastic tub (to catch dripping dye). -Cover fabric completely with ice. Different ice sizes will yield different patterns. -Open dye packages. Use spoon to sprinkle dye on the ice. More powder will yield darker results. For more white space, sprinkle dye on as you might sprinkle salt on food. Use very little dye. You will probably think you aren’t using enough, but you are! -Let the ice melt completely through the fabric. -Once melted, RIT brand strongly recommends setting the dye with a microwave. (instructions online)

Landscaping:

• Landscapers will look at irrigation around the new trees on Stratton Farm• Limb removal on Stratton Farm: tree is not on HOA property. We will try to figure out who owns the land & limb and ask them to deal with it• Lighting/electrical at McCoy/Stratton Farm: GFCI receptacle completely burned up – took $75-100 for repairs by Daniel; we will replace monument

light with LED bulbs• Monument at Stratton Farm has a light! But we don’t know if it’s working • Twin Trail at McCoy light/electrical repair will be very expensive -2020 budget

Social:

• August 10 Back School Party at C2 new time: 6 – 9• DJ, goody bags, pizza, games, drinks• We plan to increase Social budget in 2020• Fall Yard Sale – date is TBD• Fall Festival: October 26 • Holiday Celebration: December 14• Christmas Lights: lights need to be organized and someone needs to take over organizing the actual decorating• Lazy 5/Bent Creek Ranch owes the HOA a refund for the animals we rented for our Easter event. CEDARFIELD II HOABOARD MEETING MINUTESAugust 20th, 2019 Meeting called to order at 7:00 pm

IN ATTENDANCE: Jerry GoedeJerry Goedert (President) Sue Patrick (Hawthorne Management), Dave Mullaly (Member at Large), Naomi Bourque, Susie Call (Swim Committee), Mary and Kevin LaValley (Swim Club Members), James Phillips (Landscaper), Jessica Shellenberger, Chantae Skalbe (Social Committee) Bob Creighton (Arch Committee) and several homeowners. Motion with second to ratify the July minutes-all in favor, motion passed

OFFICER REPORTS:

TREASURER REPORT:

• Cedarfield 2 has collected $169,045.53 in total assessments in 2019. There is a total of $3,768 in past due assessments, along with an additional $3,147.18 in fines, late charges and legal fees. This brings our total delinquent amount to $6,915.18; down almost $1,500 from last month, and down about $2200 from this time last year. All assessments should now be fully paid, and any past due amounts will be pursued by the HOA for collection. The total amount past due is represented by only 9 homes (down from 17 homes last month), with 4 of those owing 30 dollars or less. The 4 homes that owe the most past due amounts total $6,477.18 of the entire $6,915.18. July 2019 had some expected spikes in expenses, and some unexpected as well. The most notable expected expenses were the $5,722.59 repair bill for the sewer line at the pool that caused a brief closure earlier in the year, our bi-annual insurance payment of $2,898, about $1500 in compensation to the Cedarfield Sharks Swim Team coaches, and a $500 repair bill for the irrigation system at Henderson Hill and McIlwaine. Unexpected was a double billing for our pool contract with SCM, we incurred an extra $3,419.50 in July for our August contract. As an offset we expect little to no expense for this next month. Total cash on hand is $88,796.75, and our reserve accounts are at $22,820.98; added together that is $2,953.89 under where we were this time last year. Several homeowners asked if the proposed budget could be made public before it is approved. The board will discuss the feasibility and make a determination.

PRESIDENT REPORT:

• An email was sent to the CEO of SCM regarding the April water bill and the frustration the board has on the lack of support regarding the resolution of the bill. Swim Club Management is now in conversation with CMUD to help resolve the issue. There will be excess concrete with replacing the sidewalk over the new drainage pipe and with that a new bike rack slab at the end of the parking lot will be poured. The Board decided to do a campaign to recruit people to serve in the community and on the board.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

• LANDSCAPE/MAINTENANCE: Creek bed maintenance is now under Huntersville City supervision. James is still waiting on a reply from the city on what can be done to maintain the creek bed properly. It is reported that the drainage project is expected to be completed within the next week, pending any issues with weather delays. The new drainage system is working great so far and the home owners are satisfied that the flooding has stopped. The inspection on the system took place and was passed. The Board presented a new contract for one year to Phillips Environmental.

• ARC COMMITTEE: 3 old requests were approved last month that were delayed due to a simple oversight from the Committee. It is the ARC’s goal to review and respond to requests quickly; our apologies to these three homes.

• SOCIAL COMMITTEE: There were reported issues with the Back to School party and it was suggested that we review SCM handling of any booked private parties. All other parties went well for the year.

• POOL COMMITTEE: Year End Update/SCM Update/Black algae update: A committee member reported that SCM quoted with regard to caulking, our C&R division suggests replacing all of the caulking around the pool at the same time. This would be $10/ft roughly 312ft. Totaling $3120.00. The amount of caulking that was missing or out of place around the pool was roughly 11ft and it would be $12/ft for just replacing the smaller sections. Totaling $132.00. The plastic spacers between the concrete were also cracked and overall in bad condition. We could possibly replace with caulking or see what it may take to find replacement spacers. As for the tables three (3) metal based, fiberglass top tables would be $1033.00. This includes the Shipping/Handling and other associated fees. A plan is in place to remove the Black Algae starting the 25th of August and completed before the pool opens the 30th.

Next Meeting September 17th, 2019 @ 7:00 PM at Swim Club Management 9800 W Kincey Ave #135 in the Huntersville Business Park
