For the third straight year, Mt Eden took on the bulk of staffing and direction for the First Chance Camp (Kindergarten through 3rd graders) held July 16-19, 2017. This year, we had some last-minute cancella- tions to some key staff plus we had about 10-12 last- minute registrations, pushing our total number of campers to 53. We had an awesome camp. Through the offerings given by our campers, we were able to send a child in Haiti to school for a year and pur- chase 3 goats for families in poverty in Pakistan! Did You Know ... 2017 has been a record year at Faith Christian Camp! There were 306 campers this summer ... with 80 of those campers being first timers! In all, Mt Eden sent 43 young people to camp this summer! Vacation Bible School was a HUGE Success! On August 6, 2017, Kylie Russell was baptized by her Great Uncle Gary Sorrell (pictured left). At the close of our worship service on September 17, 2017, Greg Herriford baptized Dustin & Kayla Madden of Nicho- lasville into Christ (pictured right)! The Galactic Starveyors VBS at Mt Eden Christian Church kicked off on Sunday, July 30th and wrapped up on Friday, August 4th. We had food to kick things off each night at 6 pm...then we had our program starting at 6:45 pm. The program included music, crafts, lesson time and movie time. In addition, we had one night devoted to packing meals for children in Haiti. Special guest Larry Mullholand from Mission Journeys led the meal packing sessions. Our kids packed just over 1,080 meals for children in Haiti! We had over 50 kids each night. The biggest surprise was that each night nearly 20 of the kids attending were middle-school age. This has been a big boost to our ever- growing ministry to teens. Our mission offering for Mission Journeys totaled $1,640! Thanks to ALL who volunteered their time to make the week a HUGE success. Bridges Day is a event that Jessamine Christian Church has developed as a way to love on the community of Nicholasville. It’s been a great success. Each year, the event mobilizes over 250 volunteers to GO OUT into the community and serve in Jesus’ name.

The projects include cleaning, painting, baking, doing yard work, providing haircuts for needy kids and simply handing out a bottle of water.

God has blessed the efforts, too! Because of Bridges, a ministry at the Jessamine County Detention Center began a few years ago through a group of female volunteers at Jessamine Christian Church.Through this jail ministry, the women from Jessamine first baked goods to inmates. Later on, they decided to do more, helping organize Bible studies with the prisoners. In 2016, Jessamine Christian reported 227 baptisms. To put that in perspective...that is about half of their current average Sunday morning attendance (525).JCC Senior Minister Wally Rendel attributes the recent “wave” of baptisms primarily to the ministry at the jail. As many of the prisoners profess their faith in Christ, they are transported by the county to the church, where they are baptized. According to Wally, it’s not unusual to have a dozen baptisms in one day!

A big THANKS to Jessamine Christian for allowing Mt Eden to serve with them again this year in this wonderful outreach opportunity. This year, Mt Eden “hosted” two locations through a couple of local businesses owned by members of Mt Eden.At Tina Land’s Daycare (Nana’s Play & Learn Village)...several volunteers worked on the playground area making needed improvements as well as passing out school supplies.Volunteers helped the staff at Al’s Auto Repair on 400 North Main Street provide free oil changes for around 20 different single women as well as distribute information on both Jessamine and Mt Eden.

It was a great day...THANKS again

to all who helped and to Tina Land and Al & Janet

Halcomb for involving their businesses! We

pray that God will continue to bless

our efforts to reach out for Him!

Welcome to the Fall Season everyone!

Autumn is right there with Spring as my favorite season of the year. Heck, I even named my oldest daughter Autumn (she was born on September 15th, but my desk calendar read “Autumn Begins” on her due date, thus I suggested we name the child Autumn)!

I love nearly everything about Autumn...the cooler temps and the beautiful colors of the changing leaves on the trees. The football on weekends...Hay Rides and Pumpkin Patch-es...Trick or Treat and Thanksgiving...it’s all good stuff!

A new fall tradition for me since becoming preacher at Mt Eden in 2015 has been Homecoming. Annual homecomings have a long tradition among church congregations and fami-lies in the United States. Depending on the congregation, homecomings may have one or more of several purposes: commemorating a church’s anniversary, honoring its de-ceased, celebrating its members and encouraging those who have moved away to return for a reunion. Homecomings tend to be scheduled from Memorial Day on through the autumn, when the weather is pleasant for outdoor events.

Mt Eden holds its Homecoming service on the last Sunday in September every year. This gathering has taken place an-nually for many decades and is one of the biggest days of the year on the church calendar.

One thing about Homecoming I especially enjoy is the PEACE and UNITY. It is an event that brings people to-gether. Many folks are working together preparing the church building and grounds for the weekend. Then on Sun-day, everyone (young and old) are together under one roof worshiping and serving the Lord together. It’s a beautiful thing...one I think our Lord and Savior loves.

Mt Eden’s Homecoming on 09.24.17 was a great day a huge success! A crowd of around 140 was on hand. John Hamp-ton of Apopka, FL, was our guest speaker. John brought a great message entitled, “Nobody’s Perfect, Everyone’s Wel-come and, with Jesus, Anything’s Possible.”

We were blessed with wonderful music as Pat, Eric and Kim Geary helped lead worship and the Mt Eden choir did a wonderful special.John Drury oversaw painting inside the auditorium in ad-

vance of Homecoming while many others were behind the scenes helping clean and decorate the inside and outside of the church building. Thanks again to all who made it a truly special day!

You know, such things as PEACE, HARMONY and UNITY are so unusual in this day and age we live in where UNREST and DIVISION are so prevalent. Just look at some of today’s headlines…

...North Korea developing a Nuclear Program that threat-ens their neighbors and the US....Conflicts with NFL players on whether to stand or kneel in protest while National Anthem plays....President slams/criticizes the Media and the Media slams/criticizes the President.

And, unfortunately, we often see this UNREST and DI-VISION seep its way into the church…I recently read one Church Bulletin Blooper that said: “The peacemaking meeting scheduled for today has been cancelled due to a conflict.”What’s not funny is the heartache caused by bitter divi-sion or church split. It happens a lot every day! Just look at all the different denominations and church groups that have begun from a split or division.

If we are going to have our vertical relationship (with God) right, we also have to have our horizontal relation-ships (with our brothers and sisters) in a good order.

As Jesus said in Matthew 5:9...Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called

children of God.

Are you a child of God? If so, you need to be a peace-maker, too!

Hope to see you soon. Until then…

God bless,

Our thoughts and prayers are with those in Texas dealing with the fallout from Hurricane Harvey. Mt Eden has been involved in helping many flooding victims in Texas through Mission Journeys, a missions ministry based out of Lexington, KY.

Mt Eden collected some much needed supplies through Sunday, September 10th. MJ Executive Director Larry Mullholand and a crew successfully delivered supplies to the Houston, TX, area shortly thereafter. Larry and crew have also determined where MJ will be working to help with restoration needs.

You can still help out...an updated list of items needed can be found on the Mission Journeys website...http://missionjourneys.org/disaster-relief.You may drop off items at the Gardenside Christian Church (940 Holly Springs Dr; Lexington KY 40504).

Would you like to go to Texas to help with the rebuild?Contact Mission Journeys at 859.278.3202 to find out

when the next trip to Texas will be.
