Introduction:
Economy of a country goes up in dictatorship and gets down in democracy. It is the voice of
millions of people including business students/persons, economists and other experts of this
field. Whenever we talk about democracy in Pakistan, we are unable to prove it in front of such
expert economists.
Democratic government always faces threats to democracy which looses consistency and flow of
public government and man-made disasters get increased day by day. To overcome these
disasters, we the youth of the country are supposed to understand deeply the democracy and to
learn how to transform the democracy from generation to generation.
We have started learning democracy through different trainings and conferences around thecountry in order to find out career opportunities in the context of democracy and to highlight the
opportunities of entrepreneurship in democratic environment.
We have been participating in different activities and projects since couple of months for
understanding democracy and highlighting business opportunities in it. The following
activities/events were attended by us including;
6days training on, "Economic Development through generating ideas for free, responsibleand prosperous society" organized by Alternate Solutions Institute (ASI)
3Days Youth Conference on, "Participation and Inclusiveness Central to Democracy"organized by SDPD and sponsored by UNDP
And finally we attended the Symposium on Intergenerational Democracy organized byThe Youth Parliament of Pakistan and sponsored by United Nations Democracy Fund
(UNDEF).

tactics of this fruitful event. The Symposium was quite interactive, we were given chance to
express our ideas and thoughts about the intergenerational democracy and to associate it withthe (business administration) in order to find out opportunities in democratic government.

About Youth Parliament of Pakistan:
Pakistan currently has the largest cohort of young people in its history and subsequent
cohorts are projected to be even larger. More than half of Pakistans population comprises of
individuals less than twenty years and 25 million aged 15-24. This huge populace includes
young adolescents and youth full of energy, oozing with enthusiasm and patriotism with a
brain full of ideas, a heart filled with sensitivity and a mind bursting with dreams of a
brighter tomorrow for self, the community and the country. The robust bodies and able minds
of todays Pakistani youth however remain unbridled, unguided and without a clear vision for
life and opportunities for the application of their energies for a greater cause or community
service. The consequent agitated, frustrated soul in the unstructured and chaotic environment
where morals and values are fast getting diluted finds solace in negative pursuits in theabsence of leadership, a level playfield of opportunities and tangible well-defined roles and
activities. They wobble on unsteady grounds of life without a proper direction & vision.

On the other hand is a fairly large section of the society of the old, the underprivileged, the
impoverished victims who for one reason or another find themselves abandoned, sick and un
served. These forsaken and deserted individuals fight a losing battle of their dignity and self-
esteem as silent spectators at the mercy of insensitive relatives and an indifferent community
that has no institutions for their care, patronage, protection or guardianship. These abandoned
souls were once useful, productive potent members of our community but today are without a
fixed abode, are lonely and without any economic, social or emotional support. Then are the
sick and wounded in hospitals, the bonded laborers, the children without opportunities for
learning and the victims of violence and exploitation; all of them are without a SAHARA.
Aims of Youth Parliament of Pakistan:
1. To develop character and strengthen moral fiber in the youth.2. To inculcate democratic values in the youth of Pakistan.3. To train and nurture leadership, citizenship and ability for governance in youth.4. To foster tolerance, moderation, ingenuity and self-reliance.
About United Nations Democracy Fund (UNDEF):
UNDEF was established by the UN Secretary-General in 2005 as a United Nations General
Trust Fund to support democratization efforts around the world. UNDEF supports projects
that strengthen the voice of civil society, promote human rights, and encourage the
participation of all groups in democratic processes. The large majority of UNDEF funds go
to local civil society organizations both in the transition and consolidation phases of
democratization. In this way, UNDEF plays a novel and unique role in complementing the
UN's traditional work -- the work with Governments -- to strengthen democratic governance
around the world. UNDEF subsists entirely on voluntary contributions from Governments; in
2010, it surpassed 110 million dollars in contributions and now counts 39 countries asdonors, including many middle- and low-income States in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
In four Rounds of Funding so far, UNDEF has supported a total of more than 330 projects in
more than 110 countries.
UNDEF projects are two years long and fall under one or more of six main areas;
7/29/2019 youth parliment seminar lahore
11/11
Community development
Rule of law and human rights
Tools for democratization
Women
Youth
Media
UNDEF grants range from US$50,000 to US$500,000. Applications are subject to a highly
rigorous and competitive selection process, as UNDEF receives an average of about 2,000
applications a year and only some 60-70 are selected.
UNDEF was one of only two UN entities mentioned by President Barack Obama in his
speech to the UN General Assembly on 23 September 2010. Declaring that "its time for
every Member State... to increase the UN Democracy Fund", President Obama spoke ofdemocracy as the form of government that delivers most for citizens, and described civil
society -- the focus of UNDEF's work -- as the shapers of human progress and the conscience
of communities.
