1. How _______________was Justified (4:1-8) a. Justification is a…verdict whereby in God’s court, you’re declared

______________. There are only two ways this can happen: You either _______ something to merit it or it is purely a __________.

b. Abraham had a choice. He could either ____________ it or ________ it off. He was never asked to _______ anything at this point.

c. He credited or recordeded Abraham’s ________ to him as _________________ d. God is ____________ obligated to you. What you receive from God is never ______________, but always ______________(Rom. 5:16, 17; 6:23). e. It’s not just Abraham who proves this point, but ___________ does

as well (4:6-8). If God deletes _______ from our account on the basis of faith, _________________ is added on the same basis. Faith not only credits righteousness, it deletes ______ - _________________!

f. In verses 9-25 … Paul continues his argument then applies it. “He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification.

2. How _____________ Justified a. Righteousness isn’t just not doing the wrong things; it’s not

____________ to do them. And it’s doing _________ the right things for only the __________ reasons.

b. How can the black in your circle be erased? A transfer had to be made…called _______________. Our sin is transferred to ______________.

c. So in justification, a _____________ transfer must occur. Going to heaven requires not just _____________, (which means we’ve done no wrong), but ________________ - _____________ righteousness.

d. The double transfer is why Martin Luther made this Latin phrase famous: simul justus et peccator. It means “at the same time ________________ and _________________.”

3. __________ We’re Justified

a. The moment I believe, Christ’s righteousness is _________ to me. His death has taken care of the ________________ I deserve, but his life has made possible my _______________.

b. Don’t try to earn or _______________ what God’s ________________.

WELCOME! Welcome to the Belpre church! We are glad that you have joined us as we gather in the name of the Lord to worship and praise

our Heavenly Father as a community of believers. The Belpre church is made up of sinners who have been saved by the grace

of God. We are fellow strugglers in the journey of life helping each other with the daily challenges and problems. Maybe this is

the first time you have been a guest at the Belpre church. Are you looking for a church home? We would love to share with you

the gospel! Also, we would welcome the opportunity to talk with you about the various ministries of the Belpre church.

For your convenience, we have an attended nursery; our children, 3yrs - 3rd grade, also meet during the sermon in our MPR. They are dismissed to

attend this class during the K.O.D. portion of our worship time and may be picked up during the Community updates.

JUSTIFICATION - THE GRACE OF THE GOSPEL Romans 4:1-8

A NOTE FROM TONYA BATES NELSON… Hello Everyone, If you're receiving this email or note, you probably know that our dad, Tom Bates, is turning 65 next month (June 5th.) To celebrate his birthday, we'd like to put together a little surprise to let him know that his nearest and dearest are thinking of him. We're going to try and create "65 Years of Memories" by filling 65 envelopes with a memory his friends and family have of him…And this is where you come in! If you have a spare moment in the next few days, we would be so grateful if you'd jot down a favorite memory you have of our dad and put it in the mail (or email). It doesn't have to be anything fancy -- you can just write it down on a piece of paper and sign your name. You can mention anything you like -- although the more nostalgic the better! Please absolutely feel free to send more than one memory (in fact, we welcome it -- we've got 65 envelopes to fill!), but make sure you write them on different pieces of paper (and sign your name to each) so we can split them up. Thank you so, so, so much for participating -- we know everyone is busy with their own lives, and we do appreciate you taking a few minutes to do this; it will be so worth it when he reads all the memories people have of him! (Please don't forget to keep it a surprise until then, though!) Also, if you think of someone who would like to help us out, please for-ward this email or note to them! We are going to need all the help we can get to pull this off! Thanks so much, Tony & Tonya (Tonya Nelson, 1000 Day Flower Drive, Clayton, NC 27520 Or [email protected])
