Head teacher’s Comment
First of all, I would like to offer a great big thank
you to our fantastic FODS team who organised an
amazing community fete last Saturday. It was
great to be able to welcome the whole
community into school and share such a lovely
summer afternoon.
As this hot weather continues I have now relaxed
the school the uniform policy and children no
longer need to wear a tie up to the end of term.
Ties will be reintroduced in September.

Class 3 and the Hallѐ Orchestra
On Thursday Class 3 went to the Bridgewater Hall to take part in Come and Play with the Halle. Around 1400 whole class
instrumental pupils from Oldham schools attended the event. They had learnt special pieces to play along with the Hallѐ
Orchestra. They also sang two songs I Caramba Samba and Charleston Champions and listened to the Hallѐ perform some pieces
such as Danse Macarbre by Saint Saens. The theme of the concert was Dance and the children got lots of opportunities to get up
and join in. Mia Howarth said “ I liked it when all the bows on the violins were in sync, it made me move the valves on my cornet
in time.”
Charlotte Heydon said “ I liked dancing to the Charleston Champions, we had to step forward, back, across and behind.”
Lucy Cox said “I liked playing my cornet along with the Halle.”
Applying for a secondary school place
If your child is currently in Year 5 you should have received a letter explaining how and when to apply for a
secondary school place. Please be aware that all applications are now completed in an online system. There are no
longer paper application forms.
The online system to apply for a place opens on August 1st 2018 and closes at 5pm on October 31st.
Please follow the link on your letter.
A massive thank you to those of you who
supported school and FODs at our fabulous
fete last Saturday. Hundreds of people
attended to enjoy the stalls, inflatables,
bbq, bar and even make a wish on our
unicorn! We’ve had amazing feedback on
what a great day everyone had and our
thanks go out to all the volunteer parents,
teachers, members of the community and
governors who worked tirelessly on the
day – the fete wouldn’t have been possible
without them.
A special mention to all my wonderful
FODs friends who committed so much of
their personal time to organise the fete.
Thanks to their hard work over the last 3
months we can now fund the
improvements to the music room and
create a great working space for our
children. I hope the fete has inspired you
to either help out at one of our FODs
events or come along and be a member of
the committee – our meeting dates will be
published in the Star before the end of
term – we operate on a principle of the
more the merrier so hope you can come
along.
Thanks Again, Emily
