In that meeting, Monika told us many things about the process of entering I-SWEEEP and further information regarding I- SWEEEP. depletion also means that this s o u r c e o f e n e r g y i s n o n -renewable and an alternative for the future is needed. In addition, in the last few years, the price of oil in the world rose dramatically, leading to research in alternative sources of fuel such as bio-diesel.

I chose bio-diesel which is a diesel replacement fuel that is made from vegetable or animal oil via a chemical reaction called transesterification. I noticed that bio-diesel has been produced in some countries but scientists and researchers are still working

Another p rob lems was my project must not be plagiarized, so I couldn’t copy anyone’s work, so all the projects from the internet were not suitable for me. One day, I read an article from a newspaper, its title was: “The w o r l d w a s f a c e d w i t h t h e environmental impact of fossil fuel.” That gave me the idea to set my project focus on creating a sustainable bio-diesel for Cambodia and the world. The issues were that the environ-mental impact of fossil fuel use is known to be severe, affecting the world’s atmosphere and human health. Moreover, fossil fuel

on it. Bio-diesel can be produced from many kinds of vegetable oil, animal fats, or wasted oil. After I decided on bio-diesel, I still had to find out which source of oil would be suitable for Cambodia. After more researches, I chose an inedible plant called Jatropha. Jatropha is a hardy plant which can grow in marginal soils with low nutrient content. Moreover that kind of plant can give seeds for up to fifty years. In addition, many people who live in the countryside already grow these plants for land boundaries, as well as to protect other crops from animals and erosion.

As my project must not be plagiarized, I made up a way to produce my own bio-diesel. I produced the bio-diesel many times to improve my method. I wrote down all the processes used to produce bio-diesel and made a repo r t wh ich was submitted in my abstract to I-SWEEEP.

A week later, a teacher told me that my project was accepted, thus I needed to continue with my research papers. But there were problems; the bio-diesel that I produced was still not a b io-d iese l , so I cont inued working with it. However, I still had many things to do; I needed to solve the problems while I was making my bio-diesel. I had to write down all data including experiments and experiences and do many tests to show that my bio-diesel was a real bio-diesel. Finally, when I was happy with my conclusions, I sent the comple ted paper to the I -SWEEEP commi t tee . The project tit le was ‘A Kind Of Hollyhock (Jatropha) Invention to Bio-diesel: What’s Work?’

I finished all of my work one week before I went to Houston, Texas, USA. I would like to describe the six day program in the USA. On 14th April, 2009 Ayuwatt , Pichny, our adult superv isor and mysel f le f t Cambodia at 10:05 am and we arrived in Houston at 5am on 15th April.

We had breakfast and lunch t o g e t h e r a n d t h e n i n t h e afternoon we went to George R. Brown Convention Centre (GRB) for project registrat ion and project set up. Each of us got a T-shirt, cup, pen, name badge, bag and a registration folder. After we left the GRB, we had dinner first and then later went back to the hotel. On the 16th of April, we went to the GRB convention centre again to complete our project set up. All participants needed to report to the “Display & Safety” desk when their project was ready for approval because all the participant’s boards had to be approved by the display and safety committee in order to be exhibited. At 5:45 pm there was an opening ceremony of I -SWEEEP 2009.

In I-SWEEEP 2009 there were 1200 participants with over 450 projects from 60 countries and 40 states within the USA. During the opening ceremony, each country was represented by one student carrying their national flag and displaying it in a long line on the main s tage. On the morning of 17th April, there was a public viewing during which there we re many s tuden t s f r om different schools visiting our displays. There was also a public chemistry show and booths set up for universities that spon-sored I-SWEEEP where al l students could find out relevant information. At 2:30 pm there was a field trip to Rice University. The next day I had to wake up early to be ready for judging. All adul t supervisors were not allowed to stay with us. Instead, the commi t tee a r ranged a shopping program for them. All participants had to stand in their own booths from 9:30 am until lunchtime and again from 1pm to 5pm. If a participant left their booth and the judges could not find them they would get zero. During the day, I met 12 judges and Ayuwatt and Pichny both met 8 judges.

Each participant doesn’t need to see a specific number of judges but all of us needed to present our projects briefly because the judges didn’t have much time. After the presentation the judges then asked us questions.

allow all participants to meet each other and exchange gifts. We also had fun dancing, singing and playing games. The 19th April was the best day because in the morning there was a field trip to Nasa Space Centre where I

saw a real Apollo. They were big, amazing and beautiful. I was very exciting to see them with my own eyes.

The 20th April was departure day but because my flight was delayed for 24 hours, I needed to stay in Texas for another day. On 21st April, we left Texas at around 5pm. We arrived in Phnom Penh on 23rd April, at 9:05 am. I got a warm welcome from my classmates and my teachers who gave me flowers and many journalists interviewed me. I-SWEEEP gave me a wonderful memory and the best experience. There

were many kinds of students with different nationalities who shared their experience and k n o w l e d g e . I - S W E E E P develops young minds and helps us to work together to make the world more sustain-able.

I am thankful to my project supervisor, Mr. Mustasfa Dur who had given me support and made suggestions during this project. I would also like to give thanks to Mr. Nareth Heng, my project supervisor who has given me continued guidance, knowledge and encouragement. Thanks also go to Mr. Jamie Gibbs for help with English translat ion and grammar. I would really like to thanks Mr. M. On Tuesday, all 12 E and 12F students gathered in front of the school at 9:30. Even though, we did not know where we were heading to go but we were all so excited. After a short explanation from our class monitors, we found out that we will go to the Samdech Hun Sen and Lok Chumteav Cultural center to join the Springboard Cambodia Education Fair. After everyone was there, we started to get into the buses and begin our short trip together. It is not a very long way from our school to the Samdech Hun Sen and Lok Chumteav Cultural center which is near the Independence Monument. When we arrived there, we saw buses from many schools. So we all got off from the buses and followed the lead of Mrs. Grace and Miss Vesile into the Institute. After a short walk, we arrived in front of a big building and as expected we saw many students from different schools. Then they s ta r ted t o g i ve ou t t he Registration form for us to complete before we enter the building. After a very clear explanation about the school fees, working hours and how to apply, all of the students gave a loud and heartwarming applauds to Mr. Evans and Ms.Dollaporn Intr-Roong. Then, it was time for us to return back to the school. However, before coming back we asked Mr. Evans to have pictures with both 12 E and 12F. We left the school at 8:45am with on school bus. Firstly, when we arrived Miss. Vesile’s house our teacher said welcome to all of us Then she asked us whether we were hungry or not. All of the students in 11E were invi ted to our homeroom teacher’s house (Miss. Vesile) to cook Mak lube fo r l unch altogether. On the Thursday evening we got the permission paper to go for lunch at our homeroom teacher’s house. Then we returned the paper to the teacher on Friday morning, but some of our friends had forgot to bring it or some of their parents had not yet signed for them so they returned the on Saturday form . helping our teacher to cut some vegetables such as potatoes, carrots, eggplants and Cheata helped to cut the beef .It was such hard work because the beef was still frozen but a few minutes later she did it. After we cut the potatoes, carrots, eggplants and broccoli, Malin and I wanted to fry the vegetables with oil so we fred them until all of them were cooked. And then we started to wash and cut cucumbers, tomatoes, cabbages and lettuce to make vegetable salads. After we waited for the Maklube to cook we took a lot of photographs and played around

the kitchen. We were in a hurry waiting for the Maklube to cook. After a long while the time finally came and the Maklube was cooked already. We put the pot upside down on the tray and then we started to design the garnish by putting the salad with cucumber, tomatoes, lettuce, and cabbage in the circle around the tray in lovely colors. After a few minutes our food had cooked already so we took it outside to the living room to enjoy lunch. But before we started we took many photos with our teacher, friends and the food around us. After that we filled ourselves with the most delicious food. Then we started to wash the dishes in the kitchen and some of us helped to clean the floor because the water had looked out of a container. At 11:45 the school bus came to pick us up at teacher`s house go back to the school Anyway we were happy so we didn’t know the school bus had come. How fast the time had passed. . So now it was time to go back to school and go back home. On the way back we were happy to listen to the music. We got back to school at 12:20pm a bit late because our parents were already waiting for us outside of the school. Lastly we would all like to say thanks very much to our homeroom teacher Miss. Vesile that she cooked suchs a very nice lunch for us. We hope that we all will all have a happy time like that again soon.

finishing our shower it was about 6:30 pm. Our homeroom teacher Mrs.Goksel called us to help with the cooking. Larath peel po ta toes . Rachana f r i ed potatoes. Lita stirred the sugar in the pot. Vimol, Vichta and I were chopping tomatoes, cucumbers and lettuce.Half an hour later, the dinner was served. We ate happily with our teachers and friends. Next, we went to study by ourselves until 9:30pm. Teatime came, the desert looked as good as it tasted. After teatime and before going to bed, our teachers and we played games together. After that, we went to sleep. While Lita, Rachana and I slept in the 1st room Vimol, Larath and

On Monday morning, Rachana came to my house around to pick me up at 7o’clock. On the way to school, we both felt very shy because each of us was going to carry our luggage into the school. Then we didn’t know where to put our things, so we decided to keep them in the Turkish Department. Soon Lita, Vimol, Larath and Vichta also arrived each with their different size pieces of luggage. After the lesson started; our thoughts were not on the work, but on what would happen that night at the dormitory. As time passed and the 8th lesson arrived (Main Course Lesson), Lita and I felt really excited. She said: “Hong! There are only two hours left and soon we will be in another place.” I replied: “Yeah! I am so happy because tonight we can sleep together in the same room.” Rachana shouted from the other end of the class: “Me too! Let's find out tonight!”Finally school ended and all of us except Lita went to carry our luggage from the Turkish Department to the school car. Eventually, we took the entire batch of luggage down one by one. It was extremely heavy. What have they put in there? Next, we had to take Lita’s luggage, which was in her car near the Russian Embassy security guard’s house. Finally, we were able to reach the dormitory .After we reached the dormitory, we chose our room. Three people per room as there were six of us. Then we placed our stuff. We felt so hot that we rushed to have a shower. After

Vichta slept in another room. Fifteen minutes later, Vimol rushed into my room and shouted: “Ghost! I am so afraid!” Larath and Vichta ran after Vimol and said: “She exaggerates too much.” As a result all 6 of us slept in one room.At our first night at the dormitory we were not able to fall asleep right away as we all missed our own beds, pillows and blankets. The next morning we woke up at 6:30am to get ready to go to our school. Our transportation to school was by TAXI .The following days were the same as the 1st day, but our meals and games changed everyday. Soon, Thursday evening came; it was our last day

at the dormitory, we felt like we did not want to go back home. Our last night at the dormitory was also our happiest day at the dormitory as well. We ate a special meal (BBQ). And then all of us went back to our room to change our clothes which we had to wear to get ready to go to ZIS at 10:30pm to celebrate our last day there at the dormitory. Our homeroom teacher made a cake for us.It was 10:30 pm when we left the dormitory to go to the school. It was the only time that we had ever visited the school so late at night. Our teachers had planned a surprise to make a wonderful night for us.

was time for a surpise we have been waiting for. Do you know what? The movie was pictures of us taken from the day we started staying at the dormitory right up until yesterday. She had created a movie using photos of us. It really made us excited and feel like we wanted to cry because when we saw our happiest time together which would be end tonight. After watching, we prepared our things and went back at 11:30pm.

First, we went to the cinema to listen to music while our teachers prepared tea to be served in the cinema. Suddenly Ms Sibel went on the stage and danced, followed by me, Lita, Rachana and Vimol. Reaching the dormitory, we felt so tired but we have already promised not to sleep early. As doing so, we chat and played until 3:00am. At this time, some fell a sleep such as Lita and me. By the time around 4am, everyone was deep asleep. Soon morning came…

We arranged every thing back to normal, but than we did not take our luggage to school. We felt uncomfortable to take many

him that she was from St. Louis and was only just passing through. She couldn’t thank him enough for coming to her aid.Bryan just smiled as he closed her trunk. The lady asked how much she owed him. Any amount would have been all right with her. She already imagined all the awful things that could have happened had he not stopped. Bryan never thought twice about being paid. This was not a job to him. This was helping someone in need, and God knows there were plenty, who had given him a hand in the past. He had lived his whole life that way, and it never occurred to him to act any other way.He told her that if she really wanted to pay him back, the next time she saw someone who needed help, she could give that person the assistance they needed, and Bryan added, “And think of me.”He waited until she started her car and drove off. It had been a cold and depressing day, but he felt good as he headed for home, disappearing into the twilight.A few miles down the road the lady saw a small cafe. She went

One day a man saw an old lady, stranded on the side of the road, but even in the dim light of day, he could see she needed help. So he pulled up in front of her Mercedes and got out. His Pontiac was still sputtering when he approached her.Even with the smile on his face, she was worried. No one had stopped to help for the last hour or so. Was he going to hurt her? He didn’t look safe; he looked poor and hungry. He could see that she was frightened, standing out there in the cold. He knew how she felt. It was those chills which only fear can put in you.He said, “I’m here to help you, ma’am. Why don’t you wait in the car where it’s warm? By the way, my name is Bryan Anderson.”Well, all she had was a flat tire, but for an old lady, that was bad enough. Bryan crawled under the car looking for a place to put the jack, skinning his knuckles a time or two. Soon he was able to change the tire. But he had to get dirty and his hands hurt.As he was tightening up the lug nuts, she rolled down the window and began to talk to him. She told

in to grab a bite to eat, and take the chill off before she made the last leg of her trip home. It was a dingy looking restaurant. Outside were two old gas pumps. The whole scene was unfamiliar to her. The waitress came over and brought a clean towel to wipe her wet hair. She had a sweet smile, one that even being on her feet for the whole day couldn’t erase. The lady noticed the waitress was nearly eight months pregnant, but she never let the strain and aches change her attitude. The old lady wondered how someone who had so little could be so giving to a s t r a n g e r . T h e n s h e remembered Bryan. After the lady finished her meal, she paid with a hundred dollar bill. The waitress quickly went to get change for her hundred dollar bill, but the old lady had slipped right out the door. She was gone by the time the waitress came back. The waitress wondered where the lady could be. Then she noticed something written on the napkin. There were tears in her eyes when she read what the lady wrote: “You don’t owe me

anything. I have been there too. Somebody once helped me out, the way I’m helping you. If you really want to pay me back, here is what you do: Do not let this chain of love end with you.”Under the napkin were four more $100 bills.Well, there were tables to clean, sugar bowls to fill, and people to serve, but the waitress made it through another day. That night when she got home from work and climbed into bed, she was thinking about the money and what the lady had written. How could the lady have known how much she and her husband needed it? With the baby due next month, it was going to be hard….She knew how worried her husband was, and as he lay sleeping next to her, she gave him a soft kiss and whispered soft and low, “Everything’s going to be all right. I love you, Bryan Anderson.”There is an old saying “What goes around comes around.” Today, I sent you this story and I’m asking you to pass it on… Let this light shine.

What Goes Round, comes Round! Very True!

Honestly, we want to say thanks to Miss Serap and Miss Sibel who tried hardto prepare a big

The trick for a well-exposed photograph is having the right amount of light; too much [ like in the middle of the day when the sun is right above] means that everything looks boring, too bright, not enough color, no inter-esting shadows, and a washed out white sky. Bright things are too bright, and dark things are too dark, this is called dynamic range.

My favorite time of day is dusk when rays of sun slice through the dusty streets, and people have started to turn on their shop lights, making a rich diverse range of light colors.
