ZUNO participates in NNO Financial and Internal Control Seminar

Seminar participants from NNO and national nurses’ organisations in Rwanda (host country), Uganda,

Malawi and Zambia.

Norad’s evaluation report pointed out several areas of improvement, especially related to improved internal control systems for the development partners as well as more detailed instructions for auditing of project accounts which will serve as an action point in the year 2016.

Seminar Participants during discussion a session

Norwegian Nurses Organisation (NNO) conducted an

annual financial seminar in Rwanda with participants from African national nurses’ organisations among them ZUNO. Other countries represented were the hosts Rwanda, Uganda and Malawi. The main focus of this year’s seminar was internal control, membership development and growth, new guidelines for financial reporting and a new setup for results-based reporting. A recently conducted organizational review of NNO by Norad served as an important backdrop for the seminar. The review was carried out by a Swedish consultancy team on behalf of Norad, tasked with evaluating NNO’s development work and also comparing NNO with four other Norwegian organisations doing international development work, among then several of the country’s largest trade unions (LO,YS and the teachers union). In addition, the annual finance seminar was highlighted as a good example of both north-south and south-south collaboration. The seminar had a tightly-packed program with presentations and discussion among the participating countries

The ZUNO 2015 Draft Constitution has been

unanimously approved with minimal amendments.

The notable amendments include maintaining the Organisations’ name as Zambia Union of Nurses Organisation.

Following this approval, the document will now be sent to the Labour Commissioner for registration, before it comes into effect.

The 2008 constitution which is the supreme rule that

guides the Organisation is being revised to keep the content up-to-date with current trends in trade unionism and the nursing profession.

The Organisation in January 2015 embarked on the process of reviewing the Organisation’s constitution of 2008.

Following consultations and submissions from all the stakeholders at all levels within the Organisation, the Constitutional Review Adhoc Committee consisting seven (07) members met in Lusaka from 26 October through to 30 October 2015 thereby producing a Draft Zero ZUNO Constitution.

The Draft Zero ZUNO Constitution was tabled before the National Executive Committee and the National Council, with copies sent to all branches of the organisation for comments and amendments which were then sent to the secretariat to be incorporated in the final draft.
