1. There is no clear direction provided for the Design of the individual Sign Types. There is a

Sketch, noted as “Typical Signals” that shows various sign types. These do not match the

Specifications that call out 2 different Room Types. Please advise. Response: room sign types

are shown on A0.01. There is a typical one shown and a smaller one next to it.

2. Dimensional Letters are called out in the Specifications. However, there are no letters shown

on the Exterior Elevations. Please advise. Response: Letters will spell out “MANSFIELD

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL”. Location to be determined.

3. Will the aluminum pipe rail at stairs be receiving paint or only the steel? Response: Aluminum will be powder-coated.

4. Will the elevator and access ladders be painted? Response: Yes

5. Will the Gym/Stairwell CMU be painted? Response: This question is not clear. See A10.0C and 5/A4.06 for Gym areas. The stair

area in MECH. Room 039 is to be painted.

6. In regards to the 157 panel signs, there were no sizes for signs. The only note is on

section 1.5 Section E. on page two of the specification 101400 Division 10 says panel

signs are not less than 12" square, including corners. Please advise. Response: Please see A0.01 for dimensions. The not less than 12” you are referring to

relates to Samples for verification (submittal sample). Submitting actual size samples for

verification during the submittal process is acceptable since they most likely be smaller

based on sheet A0.01 (Typical Signals).

7. On elevation Drawings A3.01 and A3.02, horizontal siding is shown. Is this the material

specified in Section 074646 Fiber Cement Board? Please Advise. Response: If entire project uses wood then it will be Wood Siding if entire project uses

cement planks then these areas will be Fiber Cement siding

8. In Specification Section 074646 it shows the panel thickness as ½”, but on drawing

A4.05, it is showing 5/8”. Please advise on which is correct. Response: If Wood Siding 5/8”, if Fiber Cement siding 1 /2”

9. On Drawing A3.02, Elevations 11, 12, 13, and 16, wood siding is shown. Please advise on

what material is used. Response: If entire project uses wood then it will be Wood Siding if entire project uses

fiber cement then these areas will be Fiber Cement siding.

10. Spec sections 099700 and 096813/ Drawings A10.0AB and A10.1C: What is CPT-2? Response: There is no CPT-2

11. Is there a recording of the pre-bid available for viewing?

Response: Yes, link was provided in Addendum #1

12. The specification table of contents (and throughout the specs) refers to divisions, 000008 –

Form of Agreement A101-2017 CPL, 000009 – Insurance and Bonds A101-2017 Exhibit A CPL and

000010 – General Conditions of the Contract A201-200. These specifications do not appear to

be included in the project documents. Are these specifications applicable and if so, can they be

provided?

13. Section 000008 – Form of Agreement A101-2017 does not appear to be in the documents. Will

this be issued?

Response: Included in ADDENDUM #3

14. Section 000009 – Insurance and Bonds A101-2017 Exhibit A does not appear to be in the

documents. Will this be issued?

Response: Included in ADDENDUM #3

15. 000010 – General Conditions of the Contract A201-2007 A does not appear to be in the

documents. Will this be issued?

16. Can the AWI Certification requirement be waived?

Response: NO.

17. Are there liquidated damages for this project and if so, what are the costs?

Response: See attachments in ADDENDUM #3.

18. Please confirm the north wall of classroom 3.2 (shown on A1.00AB) is to receive whiteboard

WB8 and not TS – tackable surface.

Response: YES, Whiteboard WB8

19. Specification section 111313 references a loading dock bumper, but no detail or reference to

this bumper is shown in the plans. Please confirm that the bumper is required, and if so, please

provide a detail.

Response: No Loading Dock Bumper

20. Spec 101200 calls out for clear anodic finish for the aluminum portion of the display cases, plan

A9.03 calls out for a powdercoat finish. Please clarify which governs.

Response: Powdercoat Finish.

21. Elevation 11/A8.04 references corridor C101B. Please reference where this is shown on the

floor plans. Please also clarify if the 6’-0”W x 4’-0”H dimensioned item is to be a TB tackboard

or WB whiteboard, or if it is to be something different.

Response: Breakout C108A should be the proper designation. White board here. (see

plans)

22. Does the material list in spec 099700 supersede manufacturer information in other spec

sections? For example, the material list indicates Scranton Hiny Hiders is the BOD for the toilet

partitions, but there are 14 manufacturers listed in spec 102113 for the toilet partitions, and

none of which are Scranton.

Response: Santana (who is in the spec) was the original maker of Hiny Hiders. They are

now owned by Scranton.

23. Sheet A1.10B notes wall pads in room 154 OT/PT and none in Sensory 112 (see partial snapshot

of page 1.10B below). Please confirm which rooms required wall padding.

Response: Rooms: 154, 112 (floor to ceiling) and gymnasium.

24. In Addendum 2, bidders are directed to Drawing A10.1C for rooms 149 and 149A window

shades. However, on that drawing no window shades are shown. Are these widows

required to get shades? If so, what type.

Response: Addendum #2 clarified location of rooms 149 and 149A that are on A10.1C

not A10.0AB as stated in original question. These windows are required to have

window shades.- Manually operated roller shades with double rollers. See 4/A4.06

25. In Section 018113, it's the standard requirement that materials be harvested,

extracted & manufactured within 500 miles of project site (see definition in 1.3.B). Section

064000 refers you to section 018113 (see paragraph 1.2.B). However, paragraph 2.1.B

indicates that regional materials have a 100 mile requirement, which is different from the

requirement in section 018113. Which is correct?

Response: 500 miles

26. Addendum #1 dated 3/17/21 states drawings A1.00AB, A1.00C, A1.10B, and A11.02 have been

updated and included. They were not provided in addendum drawings. Please provide.

Response: Addendum #1 does not state that they are included. Refer to list of drawings

issued section of addendum #1.

27. Addendum #1 dated 3/17/21 states drawing A7.01: Move views 29-33 and 39-43 to A7.02 sheet.

These view (assumed details) are not on either version of A7.01 or newly issued A7.02. Advise.

Response: Views were moved to newly issued A7.02 sheet (they were simply renumbered).

28. Is the horizontal siding shown on Drawings A3.01 and A3.02 the fiber cement board? If

yes, is this the area that will be replaced with either Ipe (Alt #3) or Garapa (API #4)

Please advise.

Response: Yes. Yes.

29. Is the fiber cement board A and B at the Clerestory included in Alternates 3 and 4?

Response: No, A & B are part project regardless.

30. Please provide a scholastic calendar for the 2021 and 2022 school years.

31. Specification section 105113 lists different metal locker manufacturers in sections 2.1.B and

2.2.B. Please clarify if there are to be two different types of metal lockers requiring different

manufacturers, or if one of these lists governs over the other.

Response: There are metal lockers in custodial workroom 27/A8.06 and admin area

6/A8.06 as shown on plans and elevations 6/A8.06.

32. Drawing A2.30, Detail 7: There is a detail for a 1-hour rated ceiling. That detail cannot

be found on the acoustical ceiling drawing. Please advise if there is an area where this

is required. Response: In stair #1 exitway. See A2.00AB (detail sheet is A2.31 not A2,30)

33. Please provide Spec Section 096400- Wood Plank Flooring.

Response: Specification Section 096400- Wood Plank Flooring added in ADDENDUM #3

34. Specifications Bid set Volume 1 of 3 includes Material List (099700). This list includes item for

spec section 096400, item code WD wood plank flooring (located at stage). MFR BOD is

indicated as TBD. There is no specification 096400 provided. Please advise.

Response: Specification Section 096400- Wood Plank Flooring added in ADDENDUM #3

35. Do interior windows in rooms OT/Pt 154 and Spec Ed 018 get window treatment? If so, what

type.

Response: Yes, Blackout shades- Manual (lockdown)

36. Do all doors with sidelights get window treatments? If so, what type.

Response: Manually operated opaque “lockdown” roller shades at specified door locations

and all classroom entry sidelights. Refer to door schedule and finish plans.

37. No spec information is provided for toilet accessory key item #1 call for aid or item #5 sanitary

napkin disposal, shown on A7.01. Please provide information (preferred manufacturer, style,

finish, etc.) for these items.

Response: For #1 see Specification section 262726-8, 2.14. For #5 see 102800Rev3 in

ADDENDUM #3

38. Spec Section 095113 Acoustical Panel ceilings, 2.6, Letter A, calls for Armstrong TechZone

Ceiling System. Please provide the tile to be used as well as what type of technical panel should

be used.

Response: See Specification Section 095113-5, 2.6,B.,G.,J.

39. Section 061500 1.5.B is a solid sawn wood decking spec but calls for FSC

material. Is the intent for the laminated wood decking to be manufactured from FSC material?

Response: FSC is not required for the wood decking.

40. Section 061500 3.2.B.4 indicates that laminated decking courses are to be glued together

in addition to toenailing. This appears to be redundant with the plywood sheathing that

will be applied. Can the glue between courses be omitted?

Response: The glue can be omitted at the wood decking.

41. Glued-Laminated Construction Spec 061800 and S7.01 conflict in several areas. Please

confirm which shall have precedence.

Response: Provide more specific clarification to the conflict areas.

42. Drawing S7.01 specifies that glulams and laminated decking are to be Douglas fir

but Specification 061800 E.1 specifies southern yellow pine glulams. Please confirm that

Douglas fir is the desired material.

Response: The material was revised to Southern Yellow Pine due to material

availability. Doug Fir is an acceptable alternative. All lumber must be the same species.

43. 18 on A3.02 shows window frame W16. We do not see this frame shown in window types on

A5.01. Please review and advise.

Response: See A5.01REV in ADDENDUM 3

44. Frame F7 shown on A11.03 is not shown in the door schedule. Please review and advise on frame

location/s if this frame is to be used.

Response: F7 Not Used

45. WD door #001 is shown in door schedule to be in frame F3A. Floor schedule on A1.00AB shows

this door to be in a different frame. Please review and advise. Frame 3A shows door with side

lite, floor plans show differently.

Response: F3A See A1.00AB classroom 4.6 (001)

46. Door C001A on door schedule calls to be single door in CW3. CW3 shows to be a frame for a pair

of doors. Please advise on frame for door #C001A.

Response: door schedule changed to reflect CW14 (not CW3)

47. Can any abatement work be scheduled for completion during the 2021 summer

vacation period or other times during the 2021 - 2022 calendar year?

Response: Abatement will not occur until the building is permanently

vacated. The portables should not have any environmental impacts.

48. Are there any underground or aboveground fuel tanks that need to be removed?

Response: See the Eagle Phase 1 ESA. The UST was reported to have been removed in

2019. If there is a grease trap it shall be removed as part of scope.

49. Please select the items that you want salvaged from the list on Drawing D0.01 item 18.

If this cannot be done at this time please provide us with an allowance for this work.

50. How many PV supports (rail system post) are at the sloped flat roofs that are getting the PV?

Detail 19/A1.42 shows a cross cut, but looking at the electrical and structural plans. Neither one

shows how many?

Response: This is a delegated design. The structural requirements and attachments will

be designed by manufacturer’s engineers. We typically use Iron Ridge racking for flush

mounted panels, and Advanced Racking for tilted up panels. Standing seam roofs are

clamped, while rubber roofs require the use of an expensive OMG attachment, specific to

the exact rubber roofing type.

51. Resinous Flooring Specification 096723 section 2.2G indicates integral wall base to be 6” high

and section 3.2D.1 indicates integral wall base to be 4” high. Confirm what height integral wall

base as part of the Resinous Flooring system should be provided.

Response: 4”

52. Provide details for transition between flooring types SVT and RES-1 at Servery 033D.

Response: SEE T4 on A11.03

53. Specification section 096519 does not include finish type LNT per finish floor plans and Material

List 099700. Please advise.

Response: 096519 is only for SVT, Refer to 096543 as shown in material list and specs.

54. On A10.1A verify what finishes to be provided at stair #2 currently shown blank.

Response: Rubber

55. A10.1A indicates flooring type SVT at V101. Finish tag calls for WOM as does A10.1C. Please

verify what finish to be provided at this area.

Response: All vestibules to have WOM

56. Material List 099700 calls for LNT-2 and LNT-3 as Corridor Field, Classroom Tile. All Classrooms

show LNT-1 flooring only. Please confirm that no classrooms are to receive a different LNT

flooring finish as main field tile or accent tile.

Response: Classrooms and other areas where LNT is called out and no pattern shown in

plans to be field tile.

57. Drawing series A10.__ finish drawings include a Floor Tile Legend. Floor tile legend for LNT do

not completely match floor plans. For example at LNT locations there are blank tiles (all white)

which do not correspond to a tile type in the legend.

Response: Classrooms and other areas where LNT is called out and no pattern shown in

plans to be field tile.

58. Material List 09700 indicates LNT “House Colors” please verify intent as finish plans on A10._

series drawings indicate multiple accent tiles throughout all grade corridors.

Response: Refer to material list for location of color accents.

59. Drawing finish schedules on A10._ Series indicate QT-Quarry Tile. Confirm if QT Quarry tile is to

be used and where.

Response: No QT, Replaced (in Addendum 1) with PT-2 Porcelain tile in grip finish, same

color as PT-1 floor tile alternate.

60. Painting Specification 099120 section 1.2B.2 states that painting includes fixed sound

absorbing panels as specified in Section 098413. This specification section has not been

provided. Please advise.

Response: Fixed Sound Absorbing panels as specified in Section 098433.

61. Confirm if exposed ceilings are to be painted.

Response: Exposed deck and all gyp ceilings soffits and area above stage/platform

62. There is a general note to protect any space above ceilings that are of combustible

construction. The drawings do not show any sprinklers for above the ceiling where they are

listed as wood. This also would relate to Add Alternate #12 which would change Ceiling Type

ACT-4 from a standard acoustical tile to a suspended wood ceiling. Which areas will require

protection above the ceiling? There may be some of the wood ceilings that have fire retardant

properties that do not require the protection. Please advise.

Response: We specified Armstrong Woodworks Linear, #6640W1 NMP as basis of design.

The wood ceiling material is fire-retardant particle board with Class A finish. We are

providing metal trim at perimeter to close perimeter gaps. We have used this system

with a closed perimeter trim to avoid upright sprinkler above the ceiling in several other

projects.

63. Addendum #2 has a construction schedule of 5/1/21 to 8/22/21. Do you have an approximate

date as to when the window/storefront/curtainwall package would be expected on site?

Response: The General Contractor will decide.

64. The laminated insulated glass units that are specified in spec section 088000, works fine in the

aluminum windows and the curtainwall framing. However, this glass does not work for the

aluminum exterior doors or the glass vents within the curtainwall framing. The

curtainwall/window legend on architectural sheet A5.01 states that the glass can be reduced to

1” thick for the doors. This will also need to be done for the glass vents as well. That glass

thickness difference cannot be simply made up by reducing the size of the air space between

the two glass lites. That would reduce the air space from ½” to 3/16”. That simply is not

enough airspace to make the insulated glass unit work without the glass lites touching. The

laminated glass lite will need to be made up of 1/8” thick and 1/8” thick glass with a .060

interlayer, with an exterior lite of ¼”. This will provide a 7/16” airspace.

Response: Change the laminated glass ply thickness to 1/8” and airspace to 7/16” for both

exterior doors and window vents. Both spec and dwg now reflect this change.

MEP/FP/IT/SEC QUESTIONS:

1. Drawing ITO.03 shows camera VMS by owner. Specification states to provide required camera

licenses. Please advise.

Response: Video surveillance system VMS is by Owner. Owner shall provide license for VMS.

The Security contractor shall provide licenses for video surveillance cameras.

2. Drawing ITO.03 shows Intercom as non-applicable. Specification calls for Aiphone Video

Intercom. Please advise.

Response: Video intercom system shall be provided by the Security contractor.

3. The Spec states that the S2 Access Control and Milestone Systems needs to integrated into

the Mansfield School Systems existing systems.

Please provide the current version of software for Milestone Professional Plus:

• The current number of Camera Licenses, plus current Camera Count

• Current level of Care Plus Milestone XProtect Device License

• Interconnect Camera License.

Please provide for S2:

• The current number of Reader Licenses

• The Current Number of Readers installed

• Does Mansfield currently use Mercury panels or S2 property hardware (Nodes and Blades)

Response:

Milestone (cameras):

• We currently have 144 licenses for cameras (all in use) at our school and municipal

buildings (it is one collective set of license for all locations; we do have individual camera

servers at each site to operate the cameras / store the recordings, but the licensing is one

collective system license)

• We currently have "Milestone XProtect Professional+" licenses.

• Our License (SLC) # is: M01-C05-133-01-6C4251

• Our Milestone Care Coverage is: Plus

• Currently we are running "XProtect Professional+ 2019 R3", however we are eligible to

use the most current version of "XProtect Professional+ 2020 R3" (since we have a care

subscription, we are eligible to newer versions as well)

• The current "Care Plus" subscription (essential to ensure the software stays compliant /

security patched) renews on 12/30/2021 (our Facilities Maintenance Department pays an

ongoing subscription fee to Sonitrol New England / Alarm New England to keep the

subscription current).

• The software license is listed under Milestone user "[email protected]".

• Attached is a screenshot of our license from the Milestone Portal

(online.milestonesys.com). You'll notice that it says only 79 of the 144 licenses are

activated; that's just a quirk of their portal (we are using all of our licenses, just

sometimes it doesn't "deduct" them but the licenses are all in use.

S2 (door access):

• Our product is "S2 Enterprise"

• We are running it on our VMware Virtual Platform and are currently running S2 Software

Version: 5.2.2, Date installed: 6/3/2020, Node Revision: 169 [software

revision 568+d766fa099]

• Our license identifier is: VM670000003A833027-6A1

• Our license entitles us to:

o 128 Portals (49 portal licenses are currently used of that 128 portal licenses) - 17

of these portals are at the current three elementary schools (the other portals

are at other school and town facilities). We are using 49 readers in our system. Of

these, 17 are used at the current three elementary schools (the other readers are

at other school and town facilities). I think if I understand correctly, the portal

licensing is in effect the reader licensing - I think?

o Badging Licensing w/ 1 Badge Printer License and 1 Capture Station License

• We are using S2 property hardware (Nodes and Blades); not Mercury panels. Specifically

we have 8 Nodes, M4 icroNode+'s, and 1 M1-3200 Node. At the current three elementary

schools, we are using 4 Nodes (the other nodes are at other school and town facilities).

• Our Facilities Maintenance Department pays an ongoing subscription fee to Sonitrol New

England / Alarm New England to keep the subscription current so that current versions

can be applied (critical for security patches / compatibility requirements with new

hardware).

• Attached are screenshots of the "about" pages from the system (helpful info) and an

export of the licensing / system (see attached).

I think above / attached provides what will be helpful to you (and perhaps more than you need,

but wanted to make sure I didn't miss anything). But, of course, let us know if anything more!

SUBSTITUTION REQUESTS:

1. We wish to submit our piping system for review and prior approval as an available manufacturer

as noted in SECTION: 23 21 13.33 GROUND LOOP HEAT PUMP PIPING

As we are the manufacturer, could advise on the correct process and documentation needed for our

submission?

Response:

There is a process for alternative materials per specification Section 12500 Substitutions and

Section 16000 Product Requirements that should be followed for alternative products. Only

submit for review per the requirements. Product should be identified as to why it is an

alternative to the specified materials and compare with specified products. Therefore, this

substitution is not accepted.

2. DynaCourt Gym flooring: Dynamic Sports Construction, Inc. requests the consideration, and

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1 RELATED DOCUMENTS

A. Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary

Conditions and Division 01 Specification Sections, apply to this Section.

B. Sustainable Design Intent: Comply with project requirements intended to achieve sustainable

design, measured and documented according to the Connecticut High Performance Building

Construction Standards (CTHPS) as outlined in the Checklist attached to Section 018113 -

SUSTAINABLE DESIGN REQUIREMENTS.

1.2 SUMMARY

A. Section Includes:

1. Glass products.

2. Laminated glass.

3. Insulating glass.

4. Glazing sealants.

5. Glazing tapes.

1.3 DEFINITIONS

A. Glass Manufacturers: Firms that produce primary glass, fabricated glass, or both, as defined in

referenced glazing publications.

B. Glass Thicknesses: Indicated by thickness designations in millimeters in accordance with

ASTM C1036.

C. IBC: International Building Code.

D. Interspace: Space between lites of an insulating-glass unit.

1.4 COORDINATION

A. Coordinate glazing channel dimensions to provide necessary bite on glass, minimum edge and

face clearances, and adequate sealant thicknesses, with reasonable tolerances to achieve proper

safety margins for glazing retention under each design load case, load case combination, and

service condition.

1.5 ACTION SUBMITTALS

A. Product Data: For each type of product.

B. Sustainable Design Submittals:

1. Product Data: For sealants, indicating VOC content.

2. Laboratory Test Reports: For sealants, indicating compliance with requirements for low-

emitting materials.

C. Glass Samples: For each type of glass product other than clear monolithic vision glass; 12

inches square.

D. Glazing Accessory Samples: For sealants and colored spacers, in 12-inch lengths. Install sealant

Samples between two strips of material representative in color of adjoining framing system.

E. Glazing Schedule: List glass types and thicknesses for each size opening and location. Use same

designations indicated on Drawings.

F. Delegated Design Submittal: For glass indicated to comply with performance requirements and

design criteria, including analysis data signed and sealed by qualified professional engineer

responsible for their preparation.

1.6 INFORMATIONAL SUBMITTALS

A. Product Certificates: For glass.

B. Product Test Reports: For fabricated glass and glazing sealants, for tests performed by a

qualified testing agency.

1. For glazing sealants, provide test reports based on testing current sealant formulations

within previous 36-month period.

C. Preconstruction adhesion and compatibility test report.

D. Sample Warranties: For special warranties.

1.7 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Fabricated-Glass Manufacturer Qualifications: A qualified manufacturer of fabricated glass

units who is approved by primary glass manufacturer.

B. Glass Testing Agency Qualifications: A qualified independent testing agency accredited

according to the NFRC CAP 1 Certification Agency Program.

C. Sealant Testing Agency Qualifications: An independent testing agency qualified according to

ASTM C1021 to conduct the testing indicated.

D. Mockups: Build mockups to demonstrate aesthetic effects and to set quality standards for

materials and execution.

1. Install glazing in mockups specified in Section 085113 "Aluminum Windows" and

Section 084413 "Glazed Aluminum Curtain Walls" to match glazing systems required for

Project, including glazing methods.

2. Subject to compliance with requirements, approved mockups may become part of the

completed Work if undisturbed at time of Substantial Completion.

1.8 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

A. Protect glazing materials in accordance with manufacturer's written instructions. Prevent

damage to glass and glazing materials from condensation, temperature changes, direct exposure

to sun, or other causes.

B. Comply with insulating-glass manufacturer's written instructions for venting and sealing units to

avoid hermetic seal ruptures due to altitude change.

1.9 FIELD CONDITIONS

A. Environmental Limitations: Do not proceed with glazing when ambient and substrate

temperature conditions are outside limits permitted by glazing material manufacturers and when

glazing channel substrates are wet from rain, frost, condensation, or other causes.

1. Do not install glazing sealants when ambient and substrate temperature conditions are

outside limits permitted by sealant manufacturer or are below 40 deg F.

1.10 WARRANTY

A. Manufacturer's Special Warranty for Coated-Glass Products: Manufacturer agrees to replace

coated-glass units that deteriorate within specified warranty period. Deterioration of coated

glass is defined as defects developed from normal use that are not attributed to glass breakage or

to maintaining and cleaning coated glass contrary to manufacturer's written instructions. Defects

include peeling, cracking, and other indications of deterioration in coating.

1. Warranty Period: 10 years from date of Substantial Completion.

B. Manufacturer's Special Warranty for Laminated Glass: Manufacturer agrees to replace

laminated-glass units that deteriorate within specified warranty period. Deterioration of

laminated glass is defined as defects developed from normal use that are not attributed to glass

breakage or to maintaining and cleaning laminated glass contrary to manufacturer's written

instructions. Defects include edge separation, delamination materially obstructing vision

through glass, and blemishes exceeding those allowed by referenced laminated-glass standard.

1. Warranty Period: 10 years from date of Substantial Completion.

C. Manufacturer's Special Warranty for Insulating Glass: Manufacturer agrees to replace

insulating-glass units that deteriorate within specified warranty period. Deterioration of

insulating glass is defined as failure of hermetic seal under normal use that is not attributed to

glass breakage or to maintaining and cleaning insulating glass contrary to manufacturer's written

instructions. Evidence of failure is obstruction of vision by dust, moisture, or film on interior

surfaces of glass.

1. Warranty Period: 10 years from date of Substantial Completion.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.1 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

A. General: Installed glazing systems shall withstand normal thermal movement and wind and

impact loads (where applicable) without failure, including loss or glass breakage attributable to

defective manufacture, fabrication, or installation; failure of sealants or gaskets to remain

watertight and airtight; deterioration of glazing materials; or other defects in construction.

B. Structural Performance: Glazing shall withstand the following design loads within limits and

under conditions indicated determined in accordance with the IBC and ASTM E1300:

1. Design Wind Pressures: As indicated on Drawings.

a. Wind Design Data: As indicated on Drawings.

2. Maximum Lateral Deflection: For glass supported on all four edges, limit center-of-glass

deflection at design wind pressure to not more than 1/50 times the short-side length or 1

inch, whichever is less.

3. Thermal Loads: Design glazing to resist thermal stress breakage induced by differential

temperature conditions and limited air circulation within individual glass lites and

insulated glazing units.

C. Safety Glazing: Where safety glazing is indicated, provide glazing that complies with

16 CFR 1201, Category II.

D. Thermal and Optical Performance Properties: Provide glass with performance properties

specified, as indicated in manufacturer's published test data, based on procedures indicated

below:

1. For monolithic-glass lites, properties are based on units with lites 6 mm thick.

2. For laminated-glass lites, properties are based on products of construction indicated.

3. For insulating-glass units, properties are based on units of thickness indicated for overall

unit and for each lite.

4. U-Factors: Center-of-glazing values, in accordance with NFRC 100 and based on most

current non-beta version of LBL's WINDOW computer program, expressed as Btu/sq. ft.

x h x deg F.

5. SHGC and Visible Transmittance: Center-of-glazing values, in accordance with

NFRC 200 and based on most current non-beta version of LBL's WINDOW computer

program.

6. Visible Reflectance: Center-of-glazing values, in accordance with NFRC 300.

2.2 GLASS PRODUCTS, GENERAL

A. Glazing Publications: Comply with published recommendations of glass product manufacturers

and organizations below unless more stringent requirements are indicated. See these

publications for glazing terms not otherwise defined in this Section or in referenced standards.

1. NGA Publications: "Laminated Glazing Reference Manual" and "Glazing Manual."

2. IGMA Publication for Insulating Glass: SIGMA TM-3000, "North American Glazing

Guidelines for Sealed Insulating Glass Units for Commercial and Residential Use."

B. Safety Glazing Labeling: Where safety glazing is indicated, permanently mark glazing with

certification label of manufacturer. Label shall indicate manufacturer's name, type of glass,

thickness, and safety glazing standard with which glass complies.

C. Insulating-Glass Certification Program: Permanently marked either on spacers or on at least one

component lite of units with appropriate certification label of the IGCC.

D. Thickness: Where glass thickness is indicated, it is a minimum. Provide glass that complies with

performance requirements and is not less than thickness indicated.

1. Minimum Glass Thickness for Exterior Lites: 6 mm.

E. Strength: Where annealed float glass is indicated, provide annealed float glass, heat-

strengthened float glass, or fully tempered float glass as needed to comply with "Performance

Requirements" Article. Where heat-strengthened float glass is indicated, provide heat-

strengthened float glass or fully tempered float glass as needed to comply with "Performance

Requirements" Article. Where fully tempered float glass is indicated, provide fully tempered

float glass.

2.3 GLASS PRODUCTS

A. Clear Annealed Float Glass: ASTM C1036, Type I, Class 1 (clear), Quality-Q3.

B. Fully Tempered Float Glass: ASTM C1048, Kind FT (fully tempered), Condition A (uncoated)

unless otherwise indicated, Type I, Class 1 (clear) or Class 2 (tinted) as indicated, Quality-Q3.

C. Heat-Strengthened Float Glass: ASTM C1048, Kind HS (heat strengthened), Type I,

Condition A (uncoated) unless otherwise indicated, Type I, Class 1 (clear) or Class 2 (tinted) as

indicated, Quality-Q3.

D. Ceramic-Coated Spandrel Glass: ASTM C1048, Type I, Condition B, Quality-Q3.

2.4 LAMINATED GLASS

A. Laminated Glass: ASTM C1172. Use materials that have a proven record of no tendency to

bubble, discolor, or lose physical and mechanical properties after fabrication and installation.

1. Construction: Laminate glass with polyvinyl butyral interlayer to comply with interlayer

manufacturer's written instructions.

2. Interlayer Thickness: Provide thickness not less than that indicated and as needed to

comply with requirements.

3. Interlayer Color: Clear unless otherwise indicated.

2.5 INSULATING GLASS

A. Insulating-Glass Units: Factory-assembled units consisting of sealed lites of glass separated by a

dehydrated interspace, qualified in accordance with ASTM E2190.

1. Sealing System: Dual seal, with manufacturer's standard primary and secondary sealants.

2. Perimeter Spacer: Manufacturer's standard spacer material and construction.

3. Desiccant: Molecular sieve or silica gel, or a blend of both.

2.6 FIRE-PROTECTION-RATED GLASS AND SAFETY GLAZING

A. Fire-Protection-Rated Glass and Safety Glazing, General: Listed and labeled by a testing

agency acceptable to authorities having jurisdiction, for fire-protection ratings indicated, based

on testing according to NFPA 252 for door assemblies and NFPA 257 for window assemblies;

and complying with testing requirements in 16 CFR 1201 for Category II materials.

1. Basis of Design Product: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide TGP

Pilkington Pyrostop or a comparable product by another manufacturer.

2.7 GLAZING SEALANTS

A. General:

1. Compatibility: Compatible with one another and with other materials they contact,

including glass products, seals of insulating-glass units, and glazing channel substrates,

under conditions of service and application, as demonstrated by sealant manufacturer

based on testing and field experience.

2. Suitability: Comply with sealant and glass manufacturers' written instructions for

selecting glazing sealants suitable for applications indicated and for conditions existing at

time of installation.

3. Verify sealant complies with the testing and product requirements of the California

Department of Public Health's "Standard Method for the Testing and Evaluation of

Volatile Organic Chemical Emissions from Indoor Sources Using Environmental

Chambers."

4. Colors of Exposed Glazing Sealants: As selected by Architect from manufacturer's full

range of industry colors.

B. Glazing Sealant: Neutral-curing silicone glazing sealant complying with ASTM C 920, Type S,

Grade NS, Class 25, Use NT.

1. Products: Subject to compliance with requirements, available products that may be

incorporated into the Work include, but are not limited to, the following:

a. Dow Corning Corporation; 799.

a. Use O Glazing Substrates: Coated glass, color anodic aluminum, aluminum coated

with a high-performance coating, and galvanized steel.

C. Glazing Sealants for Fire-Rated Glazing Products: Products that are approved by testing

agencies that listed and labeled fire-resistant glazing products with which they are used for

applications and fire-protection ratings indicated.

2.8 GLAZING TAPES

A. Back-Bedding Mastic Glazing Tapes: Preformed, butyl-based, 100 percent solids elastomeric

tape; nonstaining and nonmigrating in contact with nonporous surfaces; with or without spacer

rod as recommended in writing by tape and glass manufacturers for application indicated; and

complying with ASTM C1281 and AAMA 800 for products indicated below:

1. AAMA 804.3 tape, where indicated.

2. AAMA 806.3 tape, for glazing applications in which tape is subject to continuous

pressure.

3. AAMA 807.3 tape, for glazing applications in which tape is not subject to continuous

pressure.

B. Expanded Cellular Glazing Tapes: Closed-cell, PVC foam tapes; factory coated with adhesive

on both surfaces; and complying with AAMA 800 for the following types:

1. AAMA 810.1, Type 1, for glazing applications in which tape acts as primary sealant.

2. AAMA 810.1, Type 2, for glazing applications in which tape is used in combination with

a full bead of liquid sealant.

2.9 MISCELLANEOUS GLAZING MATERIALS

A. General: Provide products of material, size, and shape complying with referenced glazing

standard, recommended in writing by manufacturers of glass and other glazing materials for

application indicated, and with a proven record of compatibility with surfaces contacted in

installation.

B. Cleaners, Primers, and Sealers: Types recommended by sealant or gasket manufacturer.

C. Setting Blocks:

2.10 FABRICATION OF GLAZING UNITS

A. Fabricate glazing units in sizes required to fit openings indicated for Project, with edge and face

clearances, edge and surface conditions, and bite complying with written instructions of product

manufacturer and referenced glazing publications, to comply with system performance

requirements.

1. Allow for thermal movements from ambient and surface temperature changes acting on

glass framing members and glazing components.

a. Temperature Change: 120 deg F, ambient; 180 deg F, material surfaces.

B. Clean-cut or flat-grind vertical edges of butt-glazed monolithic lites to produce square edges

with slight chamfers at junctions of edges and faces.

C. Grind smooth and polish exposed glass edges and corners.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 EXAMINATION

A. Examine framing, glazing channels, and stops, with Installer present, for compliance with the

following:

1. Manufacturing and installation tolerances, including those for size, squareness, and

offsets at corners.

2. Presence and functioning of weep systems.

3. Minimum required face and edge clearances.

4. Effective sealing between joints of glass-framing members.

B. Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.

3.2 PREPARATION

A. Clean glazing channels and other framing members receiving glass immediately before glazing.

Remove coatings not firmly bonded to substrates.

B. Examine glazing units to locate exterior and interior surfaces. Label or mark units as needed so

that exterior and interior surfaces are readily identifiable. Do not use materials that leave visible

marks in the completed Work.

3.3 GLAZING, GENERAL

A. Comply with combined written instructions of manufacturers of glass, sealants, gaskets, and

other glazing materials, unless more stringent requirements are indicated, including those in

referenced glazing publications.

B. Protect glass edges from damage during handling and installation. Remove damaged glass from

Project site and legally dispose of off Project site. Damaged glass includes glass with edge

damage or other imperfections that, when installed, could weaken glass, impair performance, or

impair appearance.

C. Apply primers to joint surfaces where required for adhesion of sealants, as determined by

preconstruction testing.

D. Install setting blocks in sill rabbets, sized and located to comply with referenced glazing

publications, unless otherwise required by glass manufacturer. Set blocks in thin course of

compatible sealant suitable for heel bead.

E. Do not exceed edge pressures stipulated by glass manufacturers for installing glass lites.

F. Provide spacers for glass lites where length plus width is larger than 50 inches.

1. Locate spacers directly opposite each other on both inside and outside faces of glass.

Install correct size and spacing to preserve required face clearances, unless gaskets and

glazing tapes are used that have demonstrated ability to maintain required face clearances

and to comply with system performance requirements.

2. Provide 1/8-inch- minimum bite of spacers on glass and use thickness equal to sealant

width. With glazing tape, use thickness slightly less than final compressed thickness of

tape.

G. Provide edge blocking where indicated or needed to prevent glass lites from moving sideways

in glazing channel, as recommended in writing by glass manufacturer and in accordance with

requirements in referenced glazing publications.

H. Set glass lites in each series with uniform pattern, draw, bow, and similar characteristics.

I. Set glass lites with proper orientation so that coatings face exterior or interior as specified.

J. Where wedge-shaped gaskets are driven into one side of channel to pressurize sealant or gasket

on opposite side, provide adequate anchorage so gasket cannot walk out when installation is

subjected to movement.

K. Square cut wedge-shaped gaskets at corners and install gaskets in a manner recommended by

gasket manufacturer to prevent corners from pulling away; seal corner joints and butt joints with

sealant recommended in writing by gasket manufacturer.

3.4 TAPE GLAZING

A. Position tapes on fixed stops so that, when compressed by glass, their exposed edges are flush

with or protrude slightly above sightline of stops.

B. Install tapes continuously, but not necessarily in one continuous length. Do not stretch tapes to

make them fit opening.

C. Cover vertical framing joints by applying tapes to heads and sills first, then to jambs. Cover

horizontal framing joints by applying tapes to jambs, then to heads and sills.

D. Place joints in tapes at corners of opening with adjoining lengths butted together, not lapped.

Seal joints in tapes with compatible sealant approved by tape manufacturer.

E. Do not remove release paper from tape until right before each glazing unit is installed.

F. Apply heel bead of elastomeric sealant.

G. Center glass lites in openings on setting blocks, and press firmly against tape by inserting dense

compression gaskets formed and installed to lock in place against faces of removable stops.

Start gasket applications at corners and work toward centers of openings.

H. Apply cap bead of elastomeric sealant over exposed edge of tape.

3.5 GASKET GLAZING (DRY)

A. Cut compression gaskets to lengths recommended by gasket manufacturer to fit openings

exactly, with allowance for stretch during installation.

B. Insert soft compression gasket between glass and frame or fixed stop so it is securely in place

with joints miter cut and bonded together at corners.

C. Installation with Drive-in Wedge Gaskets: Center glass lites in openings on setting blocks, and

press firmly against soft compression gasket by inserting dense compression gaskets formed and

installed to lock in place against faces of removable stops. Start gasket applications at corners

and work toward centers of openings. Compress gaskets to produce a weathertight seal without

developing bending stresses in glass. Seal gasket joints with sealant recommended in writing by

gasket manufacturer.

D. Installation with Pressure-Glazing Stops: Center glass lites in openings on setting blocks, and

press firmly against soft compression gasket. Install dense compression gaskets and pressure-

glazing stops, applying pressure uniformly to compression gaskets. Compress gaskets to

produce a weathertight seal without developing bending stresses in glass. Seal gasket joints with

sealant recommended in writing by gasket manufacturer.

E. Install gaskets so they protrude past face of glazing stops.

3.6 SEALANT GLAZING (WET)

A. Install continuous spacers, or spacers combined with cylindrical sealant backing, between glass

lites and glazing stops to maintain glass face clearances and to prevent sealant from extruding

into glass channel and blocking weep systems until sealants cure. Secure spacers or spacers and

backings in place and in position to control depth of installed sealant relative to edge clearance

for optimum sealant performance.

B. Force sealants into glazing channels to eliminate voids and to ensure complete wetting or bond

of sealant to glass and channel surfaces.

C. Tool exposed surfaces of sealants to provide a substantial wash away from glass.

3.7 CLEANING AND PROTECTION

A. Immediately after installation, remove nonpermanent labels and clean surfaces.

B. Protect glass from contact with contaminating substances resulting from construction

operations. Examine glass surfaces adjacent to or below exterior concrete and other masonry

surfaces at frequent intervals during construction, but not less than once a month, for buildup of

dirt, scum, alkaline deposits, or stains.

1. If, despite such protection, contaminating substances do contact with glass, remove

substances immediately as recommended in writing by glass manufacturer. Remove and

replace glass that cannot be cleaned without damage to coatings.

C. Remove and replace glass that is damaged during construction period.

D. Wash glass on both exposed surfaces not more than four days before date scheduled for

inspections that establish date of Substantial Completion. Wash glass as recommended in

writing by glass manufacturer.

3.8 MONOLITHIC GLASS SCHEDULE

A. Clear Glass Type ‘GL-1’ (Interior glass not indicated as laminated): Fully tempered float glass.

1. Minimum Thickness: 6 mm.

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1 RELATED DOCUMENTS

1.2 SUMMARY

A. This Section includes field-finished wood flooring.

B. Sustainable Design Intent: Comply with project requirements intended to achieve sustainable

B. LEED BUILDING Submittals:

wood from one source with resources to provide materials and products of consistent quality in

appearance and physical properties.

B. Manufacturer Qualifications: A qualified manufacturer that is certified for chain of custody by

an FSC-accredited certification body.

C. Maple Flooring: Comply with applicable MFMA grading rules for species, grade, and cut.

D. Softwood flooring: Comply with WCLIB No. 17 grading rules for species, grade, and cut.

1.5 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

A. Deliver wood flooring materials in unopened cartons or bundles.

B. Protect wood flooring from exposure to moisture. Do not deliver wood flooring until after

concrete, masonry, plaster, ceramic tile, and similar wet work is complete and dry.

C. Store wood flooring materials in a dry, warm, ventilated, weathertight location.

1.6 PROJECT CONDITIONS

A. Conditioning period begins not less than seven days before wood flooring installation, is

continuous through installation, and continues not less than seven days after wood flooring

installation.

1. Environmental Conditioning: Maintain an ambient temperature between 65 and 75 deg F

and relative humidity planned for building occupants in spaces to receive wood flooring

during the conditioning period.

2. Wood Flooring Conditioning: Move wood flooring into spaces where it will be installed,

no later than the beginning of the conditioning period.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 EXAMINATION

A. Examine substrates, areas and conditions, with Installer present, for compliance with

requirements for maximum moisture content, installation tolerances, and other conditions

affecting performance of wood flooring.

1. Verify that substrates comply with tolerances and other requirements specified in other

Sections.

2. Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.

B. Concrete Moisture Testing: Perform anhydrous calcium chloride test per ASTM F 1869, as

follows:

1. Perform not less than 2 tests in each installation area with test areas evenly spaced in

installation area.

2. Proceed with installation only after substrates have maximum moisture-vapor-emission

rate of 3 lb of water/1000 sq. in 24 hours.

3. Perform alkalinity and adhesion tests recommended in writing by manufacturer or, if

none, according to NWFA's "Installation Guidelines: Wood Flooring." Proceed with

installation only after substrates pass testing.

3.2 PREPARATION

A. Grind high spots and fill low spots on concrete substrates to produce a maximum 1/8-inch

deviation in any direction when checked with a 10-foot straight edge.

1. Use trowelable leveling and patching compounds, according to manufacturer's written

instructions, to fill cracks, holes, and depressions in substrates.

B. Broom or vacuum clean substrates to be covered immediately before product installation. After

cleaning, examine substrates for moisture, alkaline salts, carbonation, or dust. Proceed with

installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.

3.3 INSTALLATION

A. Comply with flooring manufacturer's written installation instructions, but not less than

applicable recommendations in NWFA's "Installation Guidelines: Wood Flooring."

B. Wood Sleepers and Subfloor: Install according to requirements in Division 06 Section "Rough

Carpentry."

C. Provide expansion space at walls and other obstructions and terminations of flooring of not less

than 3/4 inch.

D. Asphalt-Saturated Felt: Where strip or plank flooring is nailed to solid-wood subfloor, install

flooring over a layer of asphalt-saturated felt.

E. Vapor Retarder:

1. Wood Flooring Nailed to Sleepers over Concrete: Install flooring over a layer of

polyethylene sheet with edges overlapped over sleepers and turned up behind baseboards.

F. Solid-Wood, Strip Flooring: Blind nail or staple flooring to substrate.

3.4 FIELD FINISHING OF STRIP FLOORING

A. Machine-sand flooring to remove offsets, ridges, cups, and sanding-machine marks that would

be noticeable after finishing. Vacuum and tack with a clean cloth immediately before applying

finish.

1. Comply with applicable recommendations in NWFA's "Installation Guidelines: Wood

Flooring."

B. Fill and repair wood flooring seams and defects.

C. Apply floor-finish materials in number of coats recommended by finish manufacturer for

application indicated, but not less than one coat of floor sealer and three finish coats.

D. Do not cover wood flooring after finishing until finish reaches full cure, and not before seven

days after applying last finish coat.

3.5 PROTECTION

A. Protect installed wood flooring during remainder of construction period with covering of heavy

kraft paper or other suitable material. Do not use plastic sheet or film that might cause

condensation.

1. Do not move heavy and sharp objects directly over kraft-paper-covered wood flooring.

L. Wiegand: Patented magnetic principle that uses specially treated wires embedded in the

credential card.

M. WYSIWYG: What You See Is What You Get. Text and graphics appear on the screen the same

as they will in print.

1.4 ACTION SUBMITTALS

A. Product Data: For each type of product indicated. Include rated capacities, operating

characteristics, and furnished specialties and accessories. Reference each product to a location

on Drawings. Test and evaluation data presented in Product Data shall comply with SIA BIO-

01.

B. Shop Drawings: Include plans, elevations, sections, details, and attachments to other work.

1. Diagrams for cable management system.

2. System labeling schedules, including electronic copy of labeling schedules that are part

of the cable and asset identification system of the software specified in Parts 2 and 3.

3. Wiring Diagrams. For power, signal, and control wiring. Show typical wiring schematics

including the following:

a. Workstation outlets, jacks, and jack assemblies.

b. Patch cords.

c. Patch panels.

4. Cable Administration Drawings: As specified in "Identification" Article.

5. Battery and charger calculations for central station, workstations, and controllers.

C. Product Schedules.

D. Samples: For workstation outlets, jacks, jack assemblies, and faceplates. For each exposed

product and for each color and texture specified.

1.6 CLOSEOUT SUBMITTALS

A. Operation and Maintenance Data: For security system to include in emergency, operation, and

maintenance manuals. In addition to items specified in Section 017823 "Operation and

Maintenance Data," include the following:

1. Hard copies of manufacturer's specification sheets, operating specifications, design

guides, user's guides for software and hardware, and PDF files on USB media of the

hard-copy submittal.

2. System installation and setup guides with data forms to plan and record options and setup

decisions.

1.7 MAINTENANCE MATERIAL SUBMITTALS

A. Furnish extra materials that match products installed and that are packaged with protective

covering for storage and identified with labels describing contents. The extra materials shall not

be permitted for reimbursement.

1. Fuses of all kinds, power and electronic, equal to 10 percent of amount installed for each

size used, but no fewer than three units.

1.8 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Installer Qualifications: An employer of workers trained and approved by manufacturer.

1. Cable installer must have on staff an RCDD certified by Building Industry Consulting

Service International.

B. Source Limitations: Obtain central station, workstations, controllers, Identifier readers, and all

software through one source from single manufacturer.

1.9 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

A. Store in temperature- and humidity-controlled environment in original manufacturer's sealed

containers. Maintain ambient temperature between 50 and 85 deg F, and not more than 80

percent relative humidity, noncondensing.

B. Open each container; verify contents against packing list; and file copy of packing list, complete

with container identification, for inclusion in operation and maintenance data.

C. Mark packing list with the same designations assigned to materials and equipment for recording

in the system labeling schedules that are generated by software specified in "Cable and Asset

Management Software" Article.

D. Save original manufacturer's containers and packing materials and deliver as directed under

provisions covering extra materials.

1.10 PROJECT CONDITIONS

A. Environmental Conditions: System shall be capable of withstanding the following

environmental conditions without mechanical or electrical damage or degradation of operating

capability:

1. Control Station: Rated for continuous operation in ambient conditions of 60 to 85 deg F

and a relative humidity of 20 to 80 percent, noncondensing.

2. Indoor, Controlled Environment: NEMA 250, Type 1 enclosure. System components,

except the central-station control unit, installed in temperature-controlled indoor

environments shall be rated for continuous operation in ambient conditions of 36 to 122

deg F dry bulb and 20 to 90 percent relative humidity, noncondensing.

3. Outdoor Environment: NEMA 250, NEMA 250, Type 4 enclosures. System components

installed in locations exposed to weather shall be rated for continuous operation in

ambient conditions of dry bulb and 20 to 90 percent relative humidity, condensing. Rate

for continuous operation where exposed to rain as specified in NEMA 250, winds up to

85 mph.

4. Hazardous Environment: System components located in areas where fire or explosion

hazards may exist because of flammable gases or vapors, flammable liquids, combustible

dust, or ignitable fibers shall be rated, listed, and installed according to NFPA 70.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.1 OPERATION

A. Security access system hardware shall use a single database for access-control and credential-

creation functions.

2.2 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

A. Electrical Components, Devices, and Accessories: Listed and labeled as defined in NFPA 70, by

a qualified testing agency, and marked for intended location and application.

B. Comply with NFPA 70, "National Electrical Code."

C. Comply with SIA DC-01 and SIA DC-03 and SIA DC-07.

2.3 ACCESS CONTROL PANEL

A. Products: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide the following:

1. S2 Enterprise Product (S2 Security Corporation);

a. S2 M1-3200 node

b. S2 MicroNode+

c. S2 Standard Node

2. The system panels are sole source and no substitution is allowed.

2.4 CARD READERS

A. Manufacturers: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide products by the following:

1. HID Global.

B. Card-Reader Power: Powered from its associated controller, including its standby power source,

and shall not dissipate more than 5 W.

C. Response Time: Card reader shall respond to passage requests by generating a signal that is sent

to the controller. Response time shall be 800 ms or less, from the time the card reader finishes

reading the credential card until a response signal is generated.

D. Enclosure: Suitable for surface, semi-flush, pedestal, or weatherproof mounting. Mounting

types shall additionally be suitable for installation in the following locations:

1. Indoors, controlled environment.

2. Indoors, uncontrolled environment.

3. Outdoors, with built-in heaters or other cold-weather equipment to extend the operating

temperature range as needed for operation at the site.

E. Display: Digital visual indicator shall provide visible and audible status indications and user

prompts. Indicate power on or off, whether user passage requests have been accepted or

rejected, and whether the door is locked or unlocked.

F. Touch-Plate and Proximity Readers:

1. Active-detection proximity card readers shall provide power to compatible credential

cards through magnetic induction, and shall receive and decode a unique identification

code number transmitted from the credential card.

2. The card reader shall read proximity cards in a range from direct contact to at least 6

inches from the reader.

3. HID iCLASS SE R40 - standard wall-mount reader.

4. HID iCLASS SE R15 – mullion-mount reader.

G. Communication Protocol: Compatible with local processor.

2.5 CABLES

A. General Cable Requirements: Comply with requirements in Section 260519 "Low-Voltage

Electrical Power Conductors and Cables" and as recommended by system manufacturer for

integration requirement.

B. PVC-Jacketed, TIA 232-F.

1. Nine, No. 22 AWG, stranded (7x30) tinned copper conductors.

2. Polypropylene insulation.

3. Aluminum foil-polyester tape shield with 100 percent shield coverage.

4. PVC jacket.

5. Conductors are cabled on common axis with No. 24 AWG, stranded (7x32) tinned copper

drain wire.

6. Flame Resistance: Comply with UL 1581.

3. Unshielded.

4. Fluorinated ethylene propylene jacket.

5. NFPA 70 Type: Type CMP

6. Flame Resistance: NFPA 262, Flame Test.

F. Paired, Plenum-Type, Reader Cables:

1. Three pairs, No. 22 AWG, stranded (7x30) tinned copper conductors, plastic insulation,

individual aluminum-foil/polypropylene-tape shielded pairs each with No. 22 AWG,

stranded tinned copper drain wire, 100 percent shield coverage, and fluorinated-ethylene-

propylene jacket.

2. NFPA 70, Type CMP.

3. Flame Resistance: NFPA 262 flame test.

4. Six conductors, No. 20 AWG, stranded (7x28) tinned copper conductors, fluorinated-

ethylene-propylene insulation, overall aluminum-foil/polyester-tape shield with 100

percent shield coverage plus tinned copper braid shield with 85 percent shield coverage,

and fluorinated-ethylene-propylene jacket.

5. NFPA 70, Type CMP.

6. Flame Resistance: NFPA 262 flame test.

G. Composite Cable

1. Contractor shall furnish and install one (1) composite cable at each access-

controlled door, in lieu of separate cables described above.

2. Composite cable shall contain individual cables bundled under an overall plenum-

rated jacket, serving the following devices:

a. Lock Power

b. Card Reader

c. Door Contact

d. Request-to-Exit device

2.6 TRANSFORMERS

A. NFPA 70, Class II control transformers, NRTL listed. Transformers for security access-control

system shall not be shared with any other system.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 EXAMINATION

A. Examine pathway elements intended for cables. Check raceways, cable trays, and other

elements for compliance with space allocations, installation tolerances, hazards to cable

installation, and other conditions affecting installation.

B. Examine roughing-in for LAN and control cable conduit systems to PCs, controllers, card

readers, and other cable-connected devices to verify actual locations of conduit and back boxes

before device installation.

C. Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.

3.2 PREPARATION

A. Comply with recommendations in SIA CP-01.

B. Comply with TIA 606-C, "Administration Standard for Commercial Telecommunications

Infrastructure."

C. Product Schedules: Obtain detailed product schedules from manufacturer of access-control

system or develop product schedules to suit Project. Fill in all data available from Project plans

and specifications and publish as Product Schedules for review and approval.

D. In meetings with Architect and Owner, present Product Schedules and review, adjust, and

prepare final setup documents. Use approved, final Product Schedules to set up system

software.

3.3 CABLING

A. Comply with NECA 1, "Good Workmanship in Electrical Construction."

B. Install cables and wiring according to requirements in Section 260519 "Low-Voltage Electrical

Power Conductors and Cables."

C. Wiring Method: Install wiring in raceway and cable tray except within consoles, cabinets,

desks, and counters. Conceal raceway and wiring except in unfinished spaces.

D. Install LAN cables using techniques, practices, and methods that are consistent with

Category 5e rating of components and optical fiber rating of components, and that ensure

Category 6 and optical fiber performance of completed and linked signal paths, end to end.

E. Boxes and enclosures containing security-system components or cabling, and which are easily

accessible to employees or to the public, shall be provided with a lock. Boxes above ceiling

level in occupied areas of the building shall not be considered accessible. Junction boxes and

small device enclosures below ceiling level and easily accessible to employees or the public

shall be covered with a suitable cover plate and secured with tamperproof screws.

F. Install end-of-line resistors at the field device location and not at the controller or panel

location.

3.4 CABLE APPLICATION

A. Comply with TIA 569-E, "Commercial Building Standard for Telecommunications Pathways

and Spaces."

B. Cable application requirements are minimum requirements and shall be exceeded if

recommended or required by manufacturer of system hardware.

C. TIA 232-F Cabling: Install at a maximum distance of 50 ft. between terminations.

D. TIA 485-A Cabling: Install at a maximum distance of 4000 ft. between terminations.

E. Card Readers:

1. Install number of conductor pairs recommended by manufacturer for the functions

specified.

2. Unless manufacturer recommends larger conductors, install No. 22 AWG wire if

maximum distance from controller to the reader is 250 ft., and install No. 20 AWG wire

if maximum distance is 500 ft..

3. For greater distances, install "extender" or "repeater" modules recommended by

manufacturer of the controller.

4. Install minimum No. 18 AWG shielded cable to readers and keypads that draw 50 mA or

more.

F. Install minimum No. 16 AWG cable from controller to electrically powered locks. Do not

exceed 250 ft. between terminations.

G. Install minimum No. 18 AWG ac power wire from transformer to controller, with a maximum

distance of 25 ft. between terminations.

3.5 GROUNDING

A. Comply with Section 270526 "Grounding and Bonding for Communications Systems."

B. Comply with IEEE 1100, "Recommended Practice for Power and Grounding Electronic

Equipment."

C. Ground cable shields, drain conductors, and equipment to eliminate shock hazard and to

minimize ground loops, common-mode returns, noise pickup, cross talk, and other impairments.

D. Bond shields and drain conductors to ground at only one point in each circuit.

E. Signal Ground:

1. Terminal: Locate in each equipment room and wiring closet; isolate from power system

and equipment grounding.

2. Bus: Mount on wall of main equipment room with standoff insulators.

3. Backbone Cable: Extend from signal ground bus to signal ground terminal in each

equipment room and wiring closet.

3.6 INSTALLATION

A. Install card readers and door position switches.

3.7 IDENTIFICATION

A. In addition to requirements in this article, comply with applicable requirements in

Section 270553 "Identification for Communications Systems" and with TIA 606-C.

B. Using software specified in "Cable and Asset Management Software" Article, develop cable

administration drawings for system identification, testing, and management. Use unique,

alphanumeric designation for each cable, and label cable and jacks, connectors, and terminals to

which it connects with the same designation. Use logical and systematic designations for

facility's architectural arrangement.

C. Label each terminal strip and screw terminal in each cabinet, rack, or panel.

1. All wiring conductors connected to terminal strips shall be individually numbered, and

each cable or wiring group being extended from a panel or cabinet to a building-mounted

device shall be identified with the name and number of the particular device as shown.

2. Each wire connected to building-mounted devices is not required to be numbered at the

device if the color of the wire is consistent with the associated wire connected and

numbered within the panel or cabinet.

D. At completion, cable and asset management software shall reflect as-built conditions.

3.8 SYSTEM SOFTWARE AND HARDWARE

A. Develop, install, and test software and hardware, and perform database tests for the complete

and proper operation of systems involved. Assign software license to Owner.

3.9 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL

A. Perform tests and inspections.

1. Manufacturer's Field Service: Engage a factory-authorized service representative to

inspect components, assemblies, and equipment installations, including connections, and

to assist in testing.

B. Tests and Inspections:

1. LAN Cable Procedures: Inspect for physical damage and test each conductor signal path

for continuity and shorts. Use tester approved for type and kind of installed cable. Test

for faulty connectors, splices, and terminations. Test according to TIA 568.1-E,

"Commercial Building Telecommunications Cabling Standards - Part 1: General

Requirements." Link performance for balanced twisted-pair cables must comply with

minimum criteria in TIA 568.1-E.

2. Test each circuit and component of each system. Tests shall include, but are not limited

to, measurements of power-supply output under maximum load, signal loop resistance,

and leakage to ground where applicable. System components with battery backup shall be

operated on battery power for a period of not less than 10 percent of the calculated

battery operating time. Provide special equipment and software if testing requires special

or dedicated equipment.

3. Operational Test: After installation of cables and connectors, demonstrate product

capability and compliance with requirements. Test each signal path for end-to-end

performance from each end of all pairs installed. Remove temporary connections when

tests have been satisfactorily completed.

C. Devices and circuits will be considered defective if they do not pass tests and inspections.

D. Prepare test and inspection reports.

3.10 STARTUP SERVICE

A. Engage a factory-authorized service representative to supervise and assist with startup service.

1. Complete installation and startup checks according to approved procedures that were

developed in "Preparation" Article and with manufacturer's written instructions.

2. Enroll and prepare badges and access cards for Owner's operators, management, and

security personnel.

3.11 DEMONSTRATION

A. Engage a factory-authorized service representative to train Owner's maintenance personnel to

adjust, operate, and maintain security access system. See Section 017900 "Demonstration and

Training."

B. Develop separate training modules for the following:

1. Computer system administration personnel to manage and repair the LAN and databases

and to update and maintain software.

2. Operators who prepare and input credentials to man the control station and workstations

and to enroll personnel.

3. Security personnel.
