Preface This Summer Math Sampler was created by Sarah Schaer who instructed and implemented Primary Mathematics on a daily basis. Concepts that students find challenging at each grade level are incorporated in each session, so mastery at the next grade level can be achieved. Each question came directly om the content taught within both the The Primary Mathematics Standards and U.S. Editions. It is suggested that students complete one session in a sitting, llowed by a ct and a mental math challenge located in the back of the book. Solutions to all sessions are provided in the back of this book. Primary Mathematics emphasizes a pictorial approach to problem solving using the bar model. Each session in the Summer Sampler contains word problems that require use of a bar model. Solutions for these problems are given in the back of this book. The purpose for a summer math review is to practice throughout the summer rather than completing the book at the very beginning or very end of the summer. Your child should plan to spend about 1 hour each week on the math problems. This will help to provide a smoother transition to the next grade level. You can use the graph paper (attached) to solve the model drawing problems. Please keep track of your work d include it when you your packet in at the beginning of the 2020-21 school year. Preface

This Summer Math Sampler was created by Sarah Schaefer who instructed and

implemented Primary Mathematics on a daily basis. Concepts that students find

challenging at each grade level are incorporated in each session, so mastery at the

next grade level can be achieved. Each question came directly from the content

taught within both the The Primary Mathematics Standards and U.S. Editions. It is

suggested that students complete one session in a sitting, followed by a fact and a

mental math challenge located in the back of the book. Solutions to all sessions

are provided in the back of this book.

Primary Mathematics emphasizes a pictorial approach to problem solving using the

bar model. Each session in the Summer Sampler contains word problems that

require use of a bar model. Solutions for these problems are given in the back of

this book.

The purpose for a summer math review is to practice throughout the summer

rather than completing the book at the very beginning or very end of the

summer. Your child should plan to spend about 1 hour each week on the math

problems. This will help to provide a smoother transition to the next grade level.

You can use the graph paper (attached) to solve the model drawing problems.

Please keep track of your work and include it when you turn your packet in at the

beginning of the 2020-21 school year. Thank you, and I hope that you have a great
