It is noticed from statistical analysis that there was a positive correlation among the conductivity, total dissolve solids, salinity, alkalinity, hardness with dissolve total carbon and soil organic carbon. It is also raveled that the soil organic carbon content is proportional to the total dissolve carbon and dissolve carbon dioxide. ABSTRACT

The present investigation is made to characterize spatial and temporal variations of different physic-chemical properties like air temperature, water temperature, pH, conductivity, total dissolve solids, salinity, alkalinity, acidity, total hardness, carbonate hardness along with total dissolve carbon, soil organic carbon and dissolve carbon dioxide of East Kolkata Wetland ecosystem and from the above data to evaluate possible relationship between physico-chemical parameters and carbon content in water and soil of this area. In premonsoon all the recorded parameters are higher than monsoon and postmonsoon. Effect of raw tannery effluent, which contained different organic and inorganic chemicals, affects mostly the Site 1.
