Indications for hand hygiene
• Before and after treating each patient (e.g., before glove
placement and after glove removal).
• After barehanded touching of inanimate objects likely to be
contaminated by blood, saliva, or respiratory secretions.
• When hands are visibly soiled.
• Before re-gloving, after removing gloves that are torn, cut, or
punctured.

Assessment :
Inspect hands for breaks or cuts in skin or cuticles
Identify appropriate time for handwashing before and after client
contact
Identify need for repeated handwashing if hands become contaminated
during a procedure
presence of factors that increase the possibility of infection (
Use of immunosuppressive medication , Recent diagnostic procedure
that penetrate the skin, Current nutritional status)
Signs and symptoms that indicate presence of infection (Swelling,
Redness, Fever, Hot / warm to touch pain)
