Reinforcing Language Arts Concepts Through Filmmaking PowerPoint NETS-S LessonGrades PK-2ndBy Sarah Taylor
What are NETS-S?
National Educational Technology Standards for Students
How can NETS-S Standards and
Language Arts standards be
integrated for Kindergarten
Communicate about technology using developmentally appropriate and accurate
terminology (6)I would begin with a lesson introducing the equipment: camera, tripod, microphone, boom pole, clapper board, etc.
Illustrate and communicate original ideas and stories using digital tools and media-rich
resources (1, 2)
Pre Production• We would identify a curriculum area that needs
reinforcement (i.e. letter sounds, word families, rhyming words)
• The class would brainstorm together on what the movie should be about. This would utilize story mapping to organize the ideas.
Illustrate and communicate original ideas and stories using digital tools and media-richresources (1, 2)In pairs, students will then use the story
map to create a storyboard for the project using a computer program such as Kid Pix.

Demonstrate the safe and cooperative use of technology(5)
Production
All film making would be highly structured and supervised. Small groups would work together on filming portions of the project.
In a collaborative work group, use a variety of technologies to produce a presentation or product in a curriculum area (1,2,6)
Post Production The whole class would be involved in the editing of the
film. This will be achieved by using a laptop, iMovie, and a projector or smart board where the class can fully participate in the editing process.
Publishing
By the end of the year I would expect
my kindergarten students to create a
movie and publish it to our class
website. This will incorporate language
arts, technology, interpersonal skills and
improve self-esteem.
