Abstractionism: 1908-1920s
3. Abstract Art Defined
A nonrepresentational style in painting or sculpture.
A painting or sculpture that does not depict a person, place or
thing in the natural world - even in an extremely distorted or
exaggerated way.
The subject of the work is based on what you see: color, shapes,
brushstrokes, size, scale and, in some cases, the process.
4. Types of Abstractionism: Lyrical
Lyrical Abstraction is a French style of abstract painting
prevalent in 1945 -1960.
Emphasizes "hot" organic and lyrical form of abstraction versus
"cold" geometric abstraction form.
Opposed not only to Cubist and Surrealist movements that preceded
it, but also to geometric abstraction.
Also referred to as tachisme painting.
