TODAY’S READINGS First Reading — The gift of the Holy Spirit was poured
out on the Gentiles also (Acts 10:25-26, 34-35, 44-48).
Psalm — The Lord has revealed to the nations his
saving power (Psalm 98).
Second Reading — Let us love one another, because
love is of God (1 John 4:7-10) or 1 John 4:11-16.
Gospel — This is my commandment: love one another
as I love you (John 15:9-17) or John 17:11b-19. The English translation of the Psalm Responses from Lectionary for Mass © 1969, 1981, 1997,

LOVE ONE ANOTHER
In the Gospel for the Sixth Sunday of Easter we are
met with an extraordinary challenge: Jesus commands us
to “love one another as I love you” (John 15:12). The
letter from John echoes this command. Of course, we are
to love those in our family, those we work with, those
we like. But the scriptures make clear that we are also to
love those we never notice, those we purposely avoid,
and even those we are tempted to despise.
In this Sunday’s selection from the Acts of the
Apostles Peter shows us how far God’s love extends,
and how far our love should extend in response. Peter
realizes that God no longer “shows partiality” to the
Jews, sharing divine love exclusively with them. Christ
has revealed that God’s love extends to all people, and
so should ours. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

PILLAR of HOSPITALITY
Jesus commands us to “love one another as I love
you.” This may not be easy, but if we ask God to help
us to be hospitable to our neighbors, we may be
surprised to find that it is not so difficult at all.

Walking with the Lord
Ascension Thursday and the Novena to the Holy Spirit
Typically, Ascension Thursday is a Holy Day of Obligation. This Solemnity falls on Thursday May 13 this
year. However, since there is no obligation to go to Mass, as it has been dispensed since the start of the
pandemic, Ascension Thursday is NOT a Holy Day of Obligation THIS year. However, we will still have our
Holy Day Schedule of 7pm Vigil in Spanish, and 8am, 12noon and 7pm in English. The Masses will take place
in the Church.
The Friday following Ascension Thursday begins the Novena to the Holy Spirit. Fr. Richard has PDF version
available as well as we have some physical copies available. It is a great way to prepare for the Feast of
Pentecost! Come Holy Spirit! For now, we continue our walk with the Lord.

2021 Novena to the Holy Spirit
The Church proposes a liturgical Novena, of biblical derivation, before Pentecost. The Roman Calendar speaks of
the days between Ascension Thursday and Pentecost Sunday as "a preparation for the coming of the Holy Spirit," a time to prayerfully consider the role and power of the Holy Spirit in the Church. The 2021 Novena to the Holy Spirit begins on Friday, May 14 and ends on Pentecost Sunday, May 23. Each Day the Novena has a Theme, a Scripture Reading, a Reflection, a Prayer and a Suggested Practice. If you would like to receive a digital version of the 2021
