The Casey County FFA Chapter hit the ground running withour successful start at the 2011 Kentucky State Convention. We took our Chapter Meeting Team and four other regionalcontest winners to compete in Parliamentary Procedure,Prepared Public speaking, and sheep, swine, and fruit and veg-etable impromptus. Former chapter President SaraiWethington represented our chapter as a state officer candi-date.

In July the chapter took 18 members tothe Kentucky FFA Leadership TrainingCenter. We had a fun-filled week, but alsovery productive. The chapter membersset goals that we wanted to achievethroughout the year.

Casey County then headed up to theKentucky State Fair in August to competein Livestock and Dairy Judging, placing28th and 15th, respectively.

We lent a helping hand to the CaseyCounty Pork Producers in September, during the 37th Annual Casey CountyApple Festival. The members signed upand took shifts in helping cook and servepork burgers.

October was a busy month for the chapter. Four junior mem-bers competed in the Land Judging Competition and tookhome 5th place. The chapter officers traveled to Indianapolisto the National FFA Convention. Sarai Wethington also com-peted in the National Prepared Public Speaking Contest. OnOctober 28th and 29th, our members volunteered hours tohelp with the 2nd Annual Casey County Heritage Days. We ledtours, ran the petting zoo, and assisted the vendors whoneeded help. Committee chairs volunteered on Friday, as ourofficers were traveling home from Indiana.

Casey County took 40 members to the North AmericanLivestock Show and Rodeo on November 11th.

December was a cold month, but it didn’t slow our annualfruit sales. Casey County FFA members sold more than 2,300boxes of citrus fruit from Florida Fruit Association. These fruitsales are our #1 fundraiser.

The New Year brought more opportunities to our members. In January Advisor Alan Godbey took 10 members to the 212Degree Conference in Richmond. The members learned lead-

ership qualities from the National FFAAssociation.

This month, the chapter will be sell-ing strawberries and working oncornhole boards. ThroughoutNational FFA Week, we have plans foractivities for every day, includingdress-up days, teacher/supporterluncheon, and other fun-filled proj-ects.

March is yet another busy month, aswe prepare for competitions. CaseyCounty will host the 2nd Annual LakeCumberland Regional FFA Prep Dayon March 3rd. All chapters in theregion (plus Lincoln County as they

join us next year!) are invited to attend. On this day, the FFAmembers run through their competitions and our volunteerjudges will offer positive criticism to help prepare the mem-bers for Regional FFA Day, which is later in the month. Also, our Secretary’s Book and Treasurer’s Book will be sent forregional grading, as Allison Ware runs for Regional Officer atthe Lake Cumberland Regional Paperwork Day.

Cooperating with other organizations and businesses andbuilding a great chapter with great leaders is something thatour chapter has always been passionate about. We haveaccomplished many goals and plan to achieve many morethroughout this year, and the years to come. Thank you forsupporting the Casey County FFA Chapter!
