St. Joseph’s Home
INTRODUCTION
St. Joseph’s provides an Intermediate Health Care
Service to children from the Cape Town Metropole and
Western Cape. We look after children from 0 to 18 years.
Parent/caregivers are welcome at the Home as they are
essential to the healing of their child in our care.
We offer the following services:
24hr Nursing Care
Access to medical treatment
Multi disciplinary intervention
Physiotherapy
Occupational Therapy
Speech Therapy
Social Work
Counselling
Spiritual Care
Transport to hospitals and home
Education while child is in our care
Accommodation for parents / caregivers.

Upon admission the parent / caregiver is encouraged to
accompany their child to St. Joseph’ Home:
To help child settle in
To meet staff who will be involved in their child’s care ie: Social Workers, Therapists and Nurses.
Parental accommodation available for 1 - 2 weeks depending on individual needs.
Parental accommodation has to be arranged with the St. Joseph’s Home social workers prior to admission.
Parents are encouraged to visit child regularly while at St. Joseph’s Home to maintain the bond between them and their child.
Their child will only be allowed to go home for week-ends after two weeks stay at St. Joseph’s Home if medical staff and social workers from the referring hospital and St. Joseph’s Home are in agreement.
St. Joseph’s Home will not be held liable for loss or damage to personal belongings.
Parental Responsibilities:
Parents are required to escort their children to hospital.
During parents’ stay at St. Joseph’s Home they are required to report to the ward at 07:00am to assist with the needs of their child. Any concerns should be reported to the sister in charge.
Children will not be allowed to go home unless parents have received training from St. Joseph’s Home staff.
Accommodation:
Accommodation is free and meals will be provided.
No visitors allowed.
One parent / guardian allowed .
No children allowed to visit or stay over.
Parents must adhere to house rules.
Schooling
Parents are responsible for informing current school about child’s admission at St. Joseph’s Home in order for the school to keep the child’s place open.
St. Joseph’s Home provides schooling during the child’s stay.
