What is Bor-X?

• Bor-X is a solid granular algaecide consisting of 100% Sodium Tetraborate Pentahydrate.

Advantages of using Bor-X

1. To reduce and inhibit the growth of algae.

• Inhibits algae by inhibiting algae’s ability to process Carbon Dioxide.

• If algae cannot “breathe”, it cannot live.


1. Compatible with all pool sanitizers.• Chlorine (tablets & granular)

• Bromine

• Salt systems

• Biguanide (Soft Swim & Baquacil)

• Ionizers & Ozonator

• Mineral Systems (Nature2 & FROG)




1. Improves the effectiveness of sanitizers.

• Chlorine users will use substantially less chlorine.

• Salt system users can run their salt system at lower outputs, hence, increasing the life of the cell.



4. Suppresses cloudiness in the pool water.

• If you think your pool is clear now, Bor-X can take it one step higher making your water crystal clear.



5. Can act as a “back up” to inhibit algae when sanitizer level is not present.

• Pools that use Bor-X can continue to inhibit algae and stay clear should the pool experience short term neglect.

• Pools that do NOT use Bor-X will usually develop algae and get cloudy quickly.



6. Less skin and eye irritation.

• Borates are also used in over the counter eye washes.

• Water feels softer feeling on the skin.



7. Does not evaporate due to sunlight.

• Bor-X is not reactive to sunlight.

• Bor-X is ONLY lost through dilution.



8. Does not stain or discolor pool surfaces.

• Bor-X does not contain metals, which can case staining of pool surfaces.



9. No Pre-mixing required.

• Bor-X comes in a granular form that can be added directly into the pool.



10.You can test your Bor-X levels.

• Can be tested professionally at Aegean Pools.

• Or can be tested at home by using a Borate Test Kit or Borate Test Strips. Available at Aegean Pools Retail Store.

Want to start using Bor-X?

• To start using Bor-X:• Add 10 lbs. of Bor-X (per 10,000 gallons) directly into the

pool with pool pump running.• Add 1 gal. Of Muriatic Acid per 10 lbs. of Bor-X added.

Add Muriatic Acid directly into the pool with pool pump running.*

• Get water tested for Borates (Bor-X) on a monthly basis by Aegean Pools & follow recommended maintenance dosages for a crystal clear & algae free swimming pool.

• Borate level should be maintained at or above 30 ppm.

* Muriatic Acid is needed to decrease the pH as result of the pH Increase due to the Bor-X. You may also use ½ lbs.

Of granular pH Down (Sodium Bisulfate) for every 1 lbs. Of Bor-X added.

• Bor-X is avialable in three sizes• 10 lbs. Bucket, 20 lbs. Bucket, & 40 lbs. Bucket
