Hello and welcome to theSummer 2013 edition o CharityChat. Were only part waythrough the year and already it
has been jam packed with someantastic events with lots omoney raised or our Hospitalsand our patients who need itmost.
We celebrated fve successulyears o the Newborns in Needund which raises money orpremature babies at Heartlandsand Good Hope with birthdayparties at the Hospitals. The
Hardwick Arms near SuttonColdfeld has been busy raisingmoney or patients at GoodHope or which we are verygrateul, and a local ootballleague put on a charityundraising match to raisemoney or Solihull Hospital. Youcan read about these and lotsmore in this edition.
You can also get up to datewith some o the undraisingappeals we have on across theTrust. There are various wardsand departments who arecurrently working towards aundraising target or somethingspecifc. I you are interested infnding out how the Fundraisingteam can help you, get in touch.

or charity!Ater the amazingsuccess o last yearsevent, we are pleasedto announce the launcho this years CharitySponsored Walk.
We are looking or willing
undraisers to get involvedto walk the 6 mile scenicroute rom HeartlandsHospital to Solihull Hospitalto raise money or a ward ordepartment o your choiceat the Trust. Money raisedrom the event will be used todirectly benet patients,
their relatives and sta in ourhospitals and community.
Last year, around 100doctors and nurses joinedmembers o the public to raisemoney or a wide variety oareas, including the Childrens
wards, the Neonatal Unitand stroke care. The walkwill be held on Sunday 29September.

the home ground o SolihullMoors FC.
Barry Murray, eventorganiser, said: We had aantastic day, with ans romboth teams getting behind theplayers. We wanted to benefta local cause
at the event, and decided allproceeds should go towardsthe Heart o England Charitywhich supports SolihullHospital. We want to thankall the ans, players andorganisers or making thissuch a successul day.
The money will go to theophthalmology department atSolihull Hospital and towardsa state o the art laser to treatconditions such as glaucoma.The laser will mean shorteroperations and reduced needor post operative ollow ups.

birthday o the Trustscharitable und,Newborns in Need.
The events raised acombined total o 1124.54or Heartlands Neonatal Unitand Good Hope Special CareBaby Unit rom tombolas, cakeand bric-a-brac sales.
Lisa Abercrombie, romSolihull said: Our hospital hasbeen wonderul, and treatednot only my son Oscar, but myelder daughter Hollys babytoo. Its a pleasure to supportthis appeal and all the uturemums benetting rom thewonderul work the neonatal
units do. We cant thankthem enough or the excellenttreatment we have received.The day was wonderul andit was great to see everyoneagain, as many o us havekept in touch since being in
hospital.The Newborns in Need und
was set up to support thecare o premature and sickbabies at the Trust. Each year,Heartlands and Good HopeHospital care or over 1,000babies rom the region whoneed specialist care. Somebabies are born our months
early and weigh as little asone pound. The und hasraised over 150,000 since itsinception.

Instarmac, based inTamworth, chose Good Hopeater a member o stasdaughter was treated on theChildrens Harvey Ward. Thecompany held undraisingevents including a sponsored
beard growing competition toraise the money.

We will put the moneytowards an ECG machine

Good Hope Hospital - Accident and EmergencyIn 2006, Good Hopes Emergency Department received alegacy donation o 50,000 used to purchase fve monitoringmachines, two or the Emergency Department and three orthe Emergency Assessment Unit. The machines are used tomonitor the vital signs o patients, and are used on nearlyevery patient that comes into the department.
Its commonlybelieved that onlythe rich and amousleave money tocharity when theydie. The reality is,without the gits letin wills by members
o the public, manycharities we know andsupport wouldnt evenexist. Gits in wills are avital source o incometo todays charities and
can help transorm livesor generations to come.

Good Hope - Hollier Simulation CentreThe Trust benefted rom a 1.8 million legacy donation toopen a state o the art, medical simulation training acility.The money was let by ormer residents o Sutton Coldfeldto open the Hollier Simulation Centre based at Good Hope,which provides real-lie emergency scenario training in asae environment. The Centre oers training to doctors,nurses and medical teams rom across Birmingham and theWest Midlands.

Solihull Hospital - Acute Stroke UnitIn March 2011, the Friends o Solihull Hospital received alegacy donation o 10,000 towards their laparoscopic cameracampaign. The camera will be used on hundreds o operationsat the Hospital every year in a range o surgical cases. Themachine brings many benefts to patients, including smalleroperations - resulting in less pain, less chance o inection,smaller scars, and an earlier discharge rom Hospital.

The pub raised the money
rom its weekly quiz night,
with all proceeds, including
donations rom regulars,
going towards lie saving
equipment at the Special CareBaby Unit and urnishings
or the Delivery Suites newbereavement rooms.

to be able to give something

Over the past year or so, kind
hearted staff at local ASDA
stores have been getting
into the fundraising spirit tosupport our local Hospitals.
The stores have donated
bras and nappies, gits or
tombola stalls and raised
money using ASDAs Chosen by
You scheme. The scheme worksby giving customers tokens
which are placed in buckets
o their chosen charity. The
charity with the most tokens
receives a donation. Recently,
ASDA Minworth handed
over 200 to the Good HopeLeague o Friends and ASDA
Sheldon raised 133.46or Heartlands Emergency
Department. Were also
really grateul to sta at
Small Heath ASDA who have
been busy supporting our

Here in the Fundraising Team, we are otencontacted by members o sta who needhelp unding a specic piece o equipmentor service the government has been unableto provide. In these cases, we rely on theamazing support o individuals and externalorganisations to help us raise the money.
We currently
have a number oappeals in progressthroughout theTrust. The Childrenswards at Heartlandsare lookingor unding topurchase keypieces o trainingsimulationequipment called
Sim Baby andSim Junior. Othe 96,000needed, nearly45,000 has beenraised to date.We are grateulto the sta at G4Sat Heartlands whohave recently been
helping raise moneythrough rafesand tombolas. TheChildrens Wardis also currentlyappealing or thedonation o gamesconsoles or someo older children andthe stroke wards at
Solihull are hoping to
raise money or music therapy
or patients. The Elderly CareUnit at Good Hope is lookingto raise 8,000 towards arehabilitation room or elderlypatients to help create a morecomortable and relaxingenvironment or the durationo their stay.
Other appeals havesuccessully hit theirundraising target. TheEpidermolysis Bullosa teamreceived 1,200 or specialistcameras and other equipmentto allow specialists tophotograph patients skinand identiy areas o concern.Almost 8,000 was raised tocreate a room at Heartlandsto allow medical sta to leadbowel cancer ollow-up clinics
to monitor or recurrence andprovide support or those livingwith a cancer diagnosis.
Over the past 12 monthsthere have been a number oamazing donations and weare extremely grateul to theorganisations and individualswho have kindly donated andmade such a positive impact
on the lives o our patients.
