Chittagong Port College

Chittagong Port College is one of the welfare institutions run by Chittagong Port Authority, the main driving-force of the economy of Bangladesh. This college started its journey with a view to ensuring quality education enriched with modern information and technology. To build up skilled, proficient and morally upgraded citizens facing the challenge of the 21st century, this institution has been established.

Standard education is the pre-requisite of a developed nation. ‘Quality education results well citizens’ - this slogan is the motto of this college since its establishment. This journey with the above aim will be continued to prepare enlightened individuals. We do believe that a positive change can be brought in the attitude of people through flourishing education. Consequently, educated nation must usher in. And no doubt, that educated nation will be the wheel of development.

In order to ensure higher studies for the children of the members of Chittagong Port Authority, Chittagong Port High School (established in 1959) has been graded to a School and College initially from 2013-2014 session. Lately, in January 2014, Chittagong Port College earned the recognition as a distinctive college to spread time-honoured higher education. Encountering the challenge of the ever-changing world, this institution must reach its goal we hope.

Chittagong Port College will continue its sincerest Endeavour to build up an education nation, practice sound cultural tradition, establish a disciplined society and to abide by the rules of nation and constitution.

Lesson Plan and Direction :

Our Teachers have already completed designing their lesson plan and direction under the supervision of principal. Students are provided with ‘Day Based Monthly Lesson Plan’ in the beginning of every month so that they can prepare themselves for the whole month. Subject teachers provide essential lesson direction based on the lesson plan.

Teaching Method :

Participatory Education : We ensure the maximum participation of the

students in order that they can extend their latent faculty. We want that learners

learn from their own enthusiasm and teachers’ assistance make the classroom

centre of excellence. Interactive method is followed to implement the above.

Class-based Teaching : Lessons are made easy and comprehensible to students

using essential education materials. As a result, regular students can easily

understand the twist and turns of their lesson.

Solution Class : Subject based solution classes are conducted at the weekend

for those students who fail to understand the lesson in regular classes. So,

learners can point out their problems in regular classes and solve them in

solution classes.

Home Task : Teachers give regular home tasks according to syllabus and

demand after the classes are conducted. Students are evaluated through class

test the following day whether or not they have accomplished their tasks.

Instant Solution to Problems : If students face any problem regarding any

subject at home, they can instantly ring the respective subject teachers to solve

the problem.

Audio-visual Classroom : Audio-visual classroom is provided off and on to

make the lessons more attractive.

Teachers’ Training : College Authority arranges training programs for the teachers so that they can develop their skills and practical knowledge to prepare students with the latest findings of the respective subjects. These programs are usually participated and conducted by knowledgeable persons, teachers, administrators, researchers and people involved in any particular area of education and curriculum development. By implementing these researches and empirical studies in classroom, teachers can present the lessons more attractively to the students. All the teachers here have already attended the training courses on- “Your Classroom : May Be a Centre of Excellence”.Creative Question :Prepare Creative Question and Evaluate the Answer Scripts” “Power point Presentation in classroom.”

Spacious Academic Building :

A good atmosphere is a must for the learners to study. We have a specious

academic building to provide such a noise-free, beautiful

and study-convenient atmosphere. The building

comprises four floors having modern

facilities.

Tidy Classrooms : Our classrooms are neat and tidy

where students can enjoy the classes comfortably.

We have a library enriched with a large number of books on various subjects,

references, texts both for academic and for widening intellectual depth.

Modern Computer Lab :

The present age is an age of computer, internet and technology. We have a

modern computer lab with the necessary facilities of information and

technology.

Well accomplished Laboratories :

Our four special labs on Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics provide

all modern and essential equipments for students and

teachers to pursue research, practical work and study.

Large Sport’s Ground :

Sports help building sound health and mind and there is no

alternative to it for the students. We have a large sports

ground in the campus where all types of outdoor sports

events can be arranged.

Canteen and Electronic Water-filter : Our College ensures hygienic food and pure drinking

water through its canteen and electronic water-filter

which is why students do not need to go outside the

campus during Tiffin period.

Modern Air-conditioned Auditorium :

Chittagong Port College campus accommodates a modern

air-conditioned auditorium where guardian meeting,

cultural programs, conferences and other programs are arranged in a disciplined

and beautiful Atmosphere.

Multimedia Classroom :

Multimedia classroom is a demand of time as the present

age is the hallmark of information and technology. Audio-

visual aid is provided here for the students through

multimedia classroom facilities and modern equipments.

Final Admission Procedure :

A final selection list of qualified students will be published after the scrutiny of

the particulars provided by the students and the interview with the students and

the guardians. Decision taken by the college authority in respect of admission

and other procedures will be the ultimate one.

Admission Fee and Others :

a) Every student is provided with an annual fee record book at the beginning of admission and in 2nd year in exchange of a definite amount of fee. Students should pay their monthly fee by completing the receipt and taking the signature of the college accountant. b) Monthly fee has to be paid within the 10th instant of every month.c) If anybody fails to pay the monthly fee within 10 th instant, he must be penalized with fifty taka in the next month.d) Studentship will be cancelled in not paying the fee for two months consecutively. Then one need to take the approval of principal and follow some conditions for re-admission.Uniform :

# It is compulsory for every student to come to college with the definite uniform

as it makes the students aware of discipline, responsibility and unity.

# Entrance to college for the students is totally prohibited is they are not with

the college-uniform. If any student violates this rule, he must be given due

punishment.

Rules of Cleanliness :

# Every Student must wear neat and clean college uniform. From hair-cut to

dress-up, everything has to be tidy.

# To keep every belonging of the college clean and safe, every students must be

conscious as it is a must.

# If necessary, students have to participate in cleaning classrooms and campus

under the direction of the teachers.

Conduct of Conduct :

# Every student has to follow the code of conduct of the college.

# Teachers should be respected and their instruction or advice should be

followed.

# Behaviour and relation with batch mate, senior and junior should be

consecutively friendly, respectful and affectionate.

Regularity/Presence in the class :

As per the laws of education board, students have to be present in more than

75% classes. If any student qualifies the test having 60-74% presence in the

class, he must pay 300/- extra non-collegiate fee to appear in the board exam.

But if the student fails to present himself below 60% classes, he won’t be given

any chance to sit for the board exam. Therefore, satisfactory class percentage is

necessary for both test and board exams.

Home Work and Home Visit :

# Students are given necessary home work on particular subjects by respective subject teachers. they have to prepare those within time as the college routine follows ‘Day Based Lesson Plan’.# Sometimes guide/subject/class teacher pays home visit to observe whether of

not the students are preparing their daily home-works, their home atmosphere is

suitable for reading and guardians are aware of them. The co-operation of the

guardians with necessary information is expected in this regard.

Guide Teacher :

About 8-10 students of every group are always under the direct supervision of a

teacher who observes their time of entrance and departure at college,

participation in class tests and other exams, class presence and behaviour.

Observing the above, guide teachers try to counsel them and take initiatives for

their overall development. Also, guide teachers maintain individual report from

based on the information of every student and give it to principal for further

steps.

Subject Teacher :

Subject teachers make their respective classes fruitful and interesting through

their presentation. Students are taught in such a way that they not only prepare

themselves for a better result but also develop their potentiality in every

particular subject. Weaker students are provided with special classes to solve

their problems. Therefore, subject teachers leave no stone unturned to prepare

the students for both board exams and life as well.

Class Teacher :

Class teachers observe the students of their respective groups and are aware of

the improvement and drawback of each and every student of their class.

Communicating with the guide teachers and subject teachers, they take

necessary and effective measures for the overall development of the students. If

any student fails to understand any lesson of any class, he may let the class

teacher or principal know about it. Class teacher must consider this without

delay and take instant initiative.

Types of Internal Exams :

Two terminal and one year final exams are held in XI year and pre-test and test

exams are held in XII year. A 30 number monthly test is held before every exam

maintained above.

Rules of Promotion:

First year final result is considered on the basis of 20% from each of the

terminal exams and 60% from the final exam. Only passed students in all

subjects according to the rule mentioned above are promoted to XII class. In

this year, final selection of students for the board exam is done on the basis of

40% from pre-test and 60% from test. Here, pass mark in all subjects and

required presence in class are obligatory for the final selection.

Co-curricular Activities:

Ten clubs have been formed here to arouse the creative talent within the

learners which are supervised by skilled teachers. Those are -

# Debate Club (English & Bengali) # Science Club

# Music Club # General Knowledge and IQ Society

# Drama Society # Sports Society

# Drawing Society # Math Olympiad Society

A two hour training class goes on every Thursday after 5th period of class

routine based on the activities of the clubs mentioned above.

House Activities:

Students of a session are divided into some houses here named Joynul Ahedin

House, Munsi Fazlur Rahman House and Dr. Kudrat-e-Khuda House, which

conduct and observe the overall development of students in both curricular and

co-curricular activities. Houses are distributed equally with teachers and

students depending on their interest, attitude and aptitude.

Sports, Literary and Cultural Competition:

Ten clubs on different co-curricular activities prepare students through training

and programs. Later on sports, literary and cultural competitions are arranged

annually to evaluate the students how they have developed. These competitions

are held between the houses mentioned above and champion or runners-up

house is declared and awarded on the basis of their total points.

Study Tour and Other Programs:

Students participate in, arrange and observe study tour, orientation for the

fresher, national and traditional programs and social activities. They also

publish wall-magazine from their respective houses.

Observing National Days:

Nationally important days are observed with due respect every year.

Participation in these days and programs is a must for students, teachers and

other officials. Competitions on various cultural themes and discussions are

arranged to commemorate these days.

Guardian Assembly:

Guardian assembly is held after every exam to share and interact about the

study and overall progress of the students. Guardians are informed about the

result and the latest condition of the students there. Students and guardians are

informed about this assembly through a notice after each exam.

Meeting with the Guardians:

# Guardians can meet guide/subject/class teacher from 9 am to 10 am on every Saturday to know the whereabouts of their issues and let know their opinions as well.# Guardians can meet the principal from 10 am to 11 am on every Saturday to reciprocate their views. If emergency, they can meet the principal on other days.

Responsibilities of the Guardians:

Observe whether the rules and regulations mentioned in prospectus are maintained.

Be aware of the results and updates of exams. Complain or suggest in time if necessary. Observe academic progress report and send it with appropriate remarks. Know the updates of students by being present at the campus off and on. Ensure monthly and exam fee in time. Take necessary initiatives for better result before exams. Not to request breaking the rules if exam result is not satisfactory rather

try to know the problems behind the failure and solve those.

Be aware of the dates of meeting and assembly of the guardians and ensure participation.

Follow the rules of education board in time in case of canceling the admission.

Class Time:

Humanities and Business Studies: From 9 am to 2 pm.Science: From 9 am to 2:30 pm.

We want that our students build up a solid platform of knowledge, skill and morality based on which they can gain the appropriate position the their academic and social career facing the challenge of time.For this, students need to do four things- a) Prepare lessons by being present in classes regularly.b) Prepare their due lessons accordingly.c) Inform and share the guide teacher or principal if there is any opinion or observation on lesson, class and the total study procedure.d) Avoid wrong or immoral activities.
