Statistics On The Staggering Growth Of Online Giving In 2012
Posted by eleventy on Apr 4, 2013
The web and social media have transformed the world of nonprofit fundraising
The Internet has empowered individuals to take an active role in spreading the word about different organizations and causes, and given people the ability to instantaneously make donations
While online giving numbers have been consistently rising year over year, 2012 was the tipping point. New numbers reveal online giving took a huge leap last year. Just how big?
One-time gifts accounted for 89% of online giving, while monthly accounted for 11%
For groups with monthly giving programs, monthly giving revenue grew at a much faster rate than one-time giving

How Does This Impact Non-profit Organizations
Nonprofit organizations are in the midst of a major fundraising
shift. More and more, fundraising efforts are moving online.
More donors (particularly donors under 40) are turning to the Web as
a primary giving method. With the rise of social media sharing, more
individuals are passing information and links along to their friends and
family.
As result, in the next 3-5 years we’ll see huge growth in online
giving as the Internet moves closer to becoming the primary means of
giving.
For nonprofits, this cultural transformation in giving means you need to
increase your focus on the online space. Source - Networks for Good

Never Think People Are Going To Change Their Habits – The Church Must Adapt
Consider these four statistics – reported by the Federal Reserve Bank.
6.1 billion fewer checks paid over the last 4 years
Electronic payments made up over three-quarters of all noncash payments by number and
more than half by value in 2009
The number of electronic payments grew 9.3 percent per year for the last 4 years. The
proportion of electronic payments to overall non-cash payments increased from 67.9
percent to 77.6 percent over the same period
Over half (60.0 percent) of all non-cash payments in 2009 were made with debit, credit, or
prepaid cards. Since then is grown steady
How Technology Has Benefitted The Churches – This IS The Next Step
Where would your church be today if it had refused to leverage technology for the benefit of its ministry?
Many churches have stopped mailing expensive printed newsletters and started sending out e-mail newsletters
Some churches have opted for downloadable curriculum rather than purchasing printed resources
Most of the information a guest wants to know can be given on a church web site, saving the time that would normally be spent answering informational calls
Remember the video stores
As we will see, donations are the big boost.

Why E-Giving - last February's epic snowstorm in the Washington area at Catholic church in Washington converted some disbelievers, with many churchgoers trapped at home, they estimated the archdiocese lost about $1.4 million -- about $10,000 per church.
What’s the role of e-giving?78% of Churches Receive Up to a Third of Their Giving Electronically
What’s the role of e-giving?
All churches surveyed that have a weekly attendance of 2,000 or more receive at least some portion of their donations electronically—online, bank transfer, credit/debit card, lobby kiosk, etc. Size has only a slight impact on the use of electronic donations, with the overall trend being that the use of electronic donations goes up with church size.
Most churches receive 20% or less of their giving through electronic donations. A respectable amount draw heavily from e-giving:roughly 1 in 5 churches with attendance of 2,000 or more receive between 31% and 60% of their offering electronically.Leadership Network clients definitely see more electronic giving than their similarly sized counterparts.

Ways to promote Online Services
1.If every leader will commit to giving online at least once, then the pastor can announce its availability and how easy it is to use
2.Remind your congregation about online giving during the church
service
3. Tie online giving availability into promotions and special programs so that people know they can give to any fund, not only the general fund
4. One of the cardinal rules of good communication is to say it, then say it again, and again. Blanket them
5. Create a special section in your church bulletin on “How to Give Online.”
6. Help people understand that it’s secure
7. Post it to a blog, Facebook wall, or Twitter feed, or any other social media the
church utilizes for ministry

NCS Services functions as a Merchant or Aggregator Model. We have already performed the tasks required to achieve this status. As the Aggregator between the church and the bank we have no set up fees or costs to get started. We can have a church up and running in minutes with a simple button on their web site to “give”, for that matter we a web site is not mandatory.
We have a one page agreement; we host, we are PCI compliant (level 1 very soon), no approvals needed or complex processes.
Without our Aggregator status the church needs to fill out an assessment questioneer and they need to do all the testing to be PCI compliant. The church bears all the risk. At NCS we bare the risk ourselves. Fully secure.
Few competitors have this status, they place the costs and burden on the church. They are and ISO (Independent Sale Organization) or MAP (Merchant Account Provider). They have fees to cover the required costs.
