1.8 Communication CircuitsThe panel has a serial communication port enabling connection of a laptop for panel programming transfer. This function is used for temporary connections only.
Features
NOTES:- Before installation, all of the addressable devices installed on each of the SLCs must be programmed with a unique address ranging from 1 to 127 for Hochiki, and from 1 to 99 for System Sensor. - The SLC does not require an EOL. Some modules that are connected to the SLC need EOLs. For proper wiring, refer to the manufacturer's installation instructions of the connected device.- For complete list of compatible addressable devices see Sections 6.3 and 6.4.- When installing SCI modules for true Style 7 compliance, the SCI modules must be installed in a “closed nipple” fashion. An isolator is required before and after every device, connected in conduit as shown below in Figure 12A.- When NACs are installed on the addressable loop in more than one zone, they should be protected with the use of isolators to prevent a fault in one zone from jeopardizing functionality of NACs in another zone.

NOTES:- All programmable relay outputs in the system have an “energized” option. This option provides fail-safe features so that a relay transition from energized to de-energized can be supervised. If the “energized” option is enabled, the relay is on during normal operation and, upon a trouble condition, it is turned off. In case of power failure, the relay goes off and generates a trouble condition. If this option is programmed as “not energized”, the relay is off during normal operation and turned on in case of trouble.- If relay outputs power source is non-power-limited, wiring must be routed through the non-power-limited spaces. Please note, if you connect a non-power limited source to a circuit on their terminal block, the whole terminal block becomes non-power limited.- Relay output circuits shall be restricted to the same room.

3 FunctionalityThis section addresses the intended function of the product.
3.1 Drift Compensation / Calibrated Detector Sensitivity Testing(Hochiki SLC Loop/Devices only)Although sensor calibration is emphasized as a power-up procedure, analog sensors should be calibrated every day because fire detection characteristics will change as the analog sensor ages, usually as a result of device contamination. Calibration is performed in terms of device type and according to the procedure described below. Calibration should be performed during a time when the detectors are most stable. Typically, calibration is carried out early in the morning, e.g., 4:00 AM. In some sites, this time could be inappropriate, so calibration time should be set according to site conditions. To avoid disabling the entire detection system, calibration is performed by the panel one device at a time. On power up, the zero point and the fire test value are read by the panel. This will permit the control panel to set the correct fire and pre-alarm levels. In addition, the zero point and initial point values should be checked for validity; these values must lie within certain ranges specified by a particular device’s performance parameters. After performing the fire test, the threshold level is ascertained and the interrupt value for the analog sensor is set.
3.2 Extent/Limitation of Synchronization (Hochiki Synchronization Module Only)The synchronization of the notification appliance circuits (NAC) is accomplished on a card basis. The cards that carry out this function are S81-F7001-1 (SOM addressable modules only) and S81-F5003-1 (for its 8 channels).
3.3 Multiple Detection Operation for EvacuationThe H-S81-HS panel can support multiple detection operation. For this reason, at least two smoke detectors must be installed in each protected space.
3.4 Alarm VerificationIf an input point is configured as “alarm verification enabled” and goes into an active state, the panel does not immediately indicate the alarm and
activate associated outputs, but resets the input point and waits for a verification period (not programmable) to see if the point is still in alarm condition.
3.5 Supervisory Signal OperationFor each initiating device circuit programmed as supervisory, the panel provides the possibility to select the latching or non-latching mode.
NOTE: Synchronization is performed only if channels are programmed with patterns ANSI S3.41 or March.
! CAUTION: TWO-WIRE DEVICES ONLYALARM VERIFICATION IS APPLICABLE ONLY TO 2-WIRE SMOKE/HEAT DETECTORS. THE ALARM VERIFICATION OPTION IS NOT APPLICABLE TO FIRE ALARM MANUAL AND WATERFLOW POINT TYPES. ALARM VERIFICATION SHOULD NOT BE EMPLOYED WITH CROSS ZONE OR COUNTING ZONE FUNCTIONS IN THE SYSTEM.
Figure 31 Alarm Verification
30 H-S81-HS Listing Document — P/N LS10139-051HI-E:B 5/25/2017
3.6 Cross-Zone InitiationIf the cross-zone initiating function is configured, an alarm condition on more than one initiating circuit will be required before the release condition is activated.
3.7 Counting ZonesAll software zones have the "counting zones" option. If this option is enabled, a software zone becomes a counting zone. Otherwise, it is a non-counting zone which is activated as soon as an input point assigned to this zone is activated. If multiple points are assigned to a single zone, only when all the points are inactive, the zone is considered as inactive; thus, associated outputs can be deactivated. A counting zone is considered active only when two or more input points assigned to that zone are active. It is not allowed to assign an input point programmed with any delayed point features to a counting zone.
3.8 Manual Release / Abort Switch InteractionThe manual release switch will not override an abort function while the abort switch is activated.EN54 Applications only: Panel programming may allow a Manual Release Switch to override an Abort function.
Abort Operation
Three operating modes are available for the abort (hold) function as follows:
Mode A When the abort switch is pressed, the release timer does not stop and extinguishing agent release is inhibited as long as the switch is pressed; when the switch is released, if the timer has reached zero, extinguishing agent release is immediately activated.
Mode B When the abort switch is pressed, the release timer is set back to its configured value; when the switch is released, the release timer restarts.
Mode C When the abort switch is pressed, the release timer stops and holds; when the switch is released, the timer restarts from whichever is greater: the remaining time on the timer, or within 10 seconds. (Programmed to UL 864 mode)
3.9 Resetting of the Releasing Device CircuitsResetting of the releasing device circuits is performed through the Reset command, at access level 2. The resetting of the releasing device circuits is inhibited for a period of time between 0 and 30 minutes. This time is set in the operator's cycle at access level 3.
3.10 Discharge DelayThe system is able to delay the discharge command for a variable time between 0 and 60 seconds. This time is set on the system, in the operator's cycle at access level 3.
Refer to Section 4, “Programming Options”, on page 31 for programming options that comply with UL 864 requirements.
3.11 NAC Reactivation (Alarm Resound)The system is intended to provide signaling service to two or more physically separated zones. For this purpose, re-energizing of the notification appliance circuits on zone basis is provided by the system. To resound an alarm condition, access the system at Level 2 operating mode and press the “silence sounder” key. This operation will reactivate any audible or visual notification appliances that were previously silenced using the silence sounder operation. This feature is available after any silence sounder operation until a reset operation or a new alarm occurs.
! CAUTION: ENERGIZED ALARM SIGNALSACTUATION OF ONE INITIATING DEVICE CIRCUIT SHALL RESULT IN ENERGIZED ALARM EVACUATION SIGNALS.
! CAUTION: TWO DETECTORS REQUIREDWHEN IMPLEMENTING THE COUNTING ZONE FEATURE, A MINIMUM OF TWO DETECTORS IS REQUIRED IN EACH PROTECTIVE SPACE (ZONE).
! CAUTION: ABORT FUNCTIONTHE ABORT FUNCTION IS NOT AVAILABLE DURING THE PRE-ACTION AND DELUGE APPLICATIONS.

3.12 Circuit DisablingThe disable menu allows the user to disable individual points or zones of the H-S81-HS fire alarm system. This is typically done while the system is being serviced or tested, or to temporarily remove a faulty system device. All disablements remain active until they are manually restored, or the panel is switched off.
The following options are available through the access level 2 Disable/Enable Menu:
• Zone Sensors: Select this option to disable/enable all sensors of a zone.
• Zone Outputs: Select this option to disable/enable all actuators of a zone.
• Single Devices: Select this option to disable/enable a single sensor/actuator.
• Panel Sounder: Select this option to disable/enable the local Sounder.
A complete list of disabled zones/devices is available through the access 1 List/Disabling Menu.
4 Programming OptionsNOTICE TO USERS, INSTALLERS, AUTHORITIES HAVING JURISDICTION, AND OTHER INVOLVED PARTIESThis product incorporates field-programmable software. In order for the product to comply with the requirements in the Standard for Control Units and Accessories for Fire Alarm Systems, UL 864 9th Edition, certain programming features or options must be limited to specific values or not used at all as indicated below.
! CAUTION: ALARM/FAULT CONDITION REPORTINGANY PORTION OF THE SYSTEM THAT IS DISABLED WILL NOT REPORT ANY ALARM AND FAULT CONDITIONS.
NOTE: Is not possible to perform any disabling in the extinguishing zones during a discharge sequence.

Overall System Power Requirements
Selected power supply shall have a maximum current higher or equal to B6
Battery Calculation
According to NFPA 72, the required standby and alarm backup time is:
• Standby = 24 h
• Alarm 5 min = 0.083 h
Use the tables here below for battery calculation. All current values are in amperes.
• Calculated Standby Battery Capacity [Ah] = Total System Standby Current (A6) x 24 [Hours]
• Calculated Alarm Battery Capacity [Ah] = Total System Alarm Current (B6) x 0.083 [Hours]
• Add the calculated Standby Battery Capacity [Ah] and the calculated alarm battery capacity [Ah].
• Enter the result in Table 1 in the “Total Calculated Battery Capacity [Ah]” field.
• Multiply the Total Calculated Battery Capacity [Ah] by the De-rating Factor 1.2 and enter the result in the Battery Size Needed field.
• Select batteries that meet or exceed the Battery Size Needed (Refer to Table 2 for available batteries).
NOTE: If Releasing Services are employed, one (1) additional minute of alarm time in addition to releasing service loads must be taken into consideration.
